Fit me in waist but are narrow and tight in the legs/butt. But, that is typical of Columbia in my experience.

I have several pair of these shorts that are 6 to 8 years old, and my favorite color pair got stained from some painting work. So I wanted a replacement pair in that color, plus a couple of new colors. I wear them all summer long here in Southern California, we live about a mile from the ocean. The shorts are great, I looked elsewhere for them. but they were less expensive here. The only thing I do is cut out the net liner, but it doesn't hurt the longevity or wear ability at all.

I am a river guide in Moab UT and used these shorts all summer. I am a woman and like the longer length, deep pockets, and mesh lining (do wish they had a 7" length). They do start to smell a little after being used all day in the sun and in and out of the water (you urinate in the water), but they scrub up nicely and the smell goes away. They dry amazingly fast, which is necessary on the river.

I like these shorts because they have deeper pockets than women's similar shorts. I was disappointed that they no longer have the zippered back pocket or the velcro cargo front pocket. When we go hiking the many pockets in my old shorts were great for carrying gear. I still enjoy wearing them though-very comfortable-just wish they had more of the pockets.

Shorts are a great look and fit perfect for days on the beach or at the pool. I am 6'1" and I reccomend the 9" length as they sit above the knees and between the waist and hips. Not to mention having pcokets on a swimsuit is great.

The shorts are well made and I like them alot...only thing bad is that there is no back pocket...it's a pain to carry cell phone car keys and wallet in the front pockets.

I would have preferred to have a pocket ion the back for ID, wallet, etc.

I have had this short for several years and wore them out. The new ones (I bought 2) are well made and fit well, like the front zippered pocket

However, the waist band had very little elastic. I purchased 3 pair from Sports Authority last year and had to try on at least 10 pair to find three with enough elastic in the band. I have a 36 inch waist, and the 2 pair I purchased on line had very little elastic. I pulled the draw belt as tight as I could but the shorts still were to big. With better quality control on the waist band these could be very good shorts. I will continue to look for these shorts at your retail stores, because they have very good features.

Not much elastic in the waistband to get them on and off comfortably. Returned them.

I have been buying these shorts for years, the fit and comfort has always been good. The features have diminished over the years, sad to say. They used to have two zippered pockets on each leg, and they were deeper, now there is only one. There were also pull tabs on the zipper, now also gone. There was a back pocket, also now gone. Material used to be heavier nylon, is is a lower denier now. The belt used to be heavy weight too,and the buckle was of better quality. Understand things get more expensive, But at least offer the quality at the price, let us choose what we want. May need to start looking elsewhere to satisfy my personal preference.

I am a solid medium for shorts in just about everything. (32in.). The belt/strap di not take up the "runs large" extra.

I recently purchased 2 pairs of shorts. I did not realize that one pair was relaxed fit until I tried them on and the waist was way too big. I decided to keep the shorts thinking they might shrink bit and returning them would cost almost as much as they cost. I've tried to make them work but they are too big at the waist and will not wear them anymore. Why would relaxed fit have a larger waist? So I am disappointed. Not sure what the best solution is except to learn and pay more attention when ordering. If you look at the site, the relaxed fit is hard to see. Thank you for your time.

I like everything about these shorts except for one design flaw: The sewn-in belt. I'm a 33-inch waist. The stationary end is 2 inches long and allows barely 1 inch of adjusting smaller. If you're a 32-inch waist, think twice. Columbia, you should make the stationary end much shorter so there's more room to cinch the belt tighter.

For columbiia
The backer for the pockets is light mesh and has not held up. Adding a lower pocket on the right side for holding someing like a phone? And a zipper fly would be nice as well.
For consumer
The shorts are cool and breath well making them good for rafting. There is one small useable pocket on the left side and pockets to keep your hands if you need them. There is a web belt to help keep them in place. Also there is a mesh underware system in the shorts. Making them good for hot days around water.

I really liked the look and fit of these shorts. Was very pleased with the way the buckle worked and the waist stayed snug, right up until the first time I washed them and the buckle came apart. You have a great product if you improve the sturdiness of the buckle.

Having to return as the size is running much larger. The medium is too big at the waist and returing for a small. Other than the size, they should be great outside to wear with the longer lenght and 50 sunscreen.

Fit is just slightly large. There is not enough elastic on the waist. The belt cannot be cinched up to any significant degree as it is fixed to the waist and is restricted by the belt holder. On the positive side, they do wear well and the material is light and dries fast. Just don't plan on jumping into the water with these shorts or they may come off.

Bought this style of short from Columbia 8 years ago and then again 4 years later and again this last month and the fit and quality on the 1st purchase is far superior to the last two purchases. I use these shorts for backpacking and like the light weight and quick dry properties but fit and comfort are not consistent year after year.

I purchased these shorts for use during kayaking. I ordered two pair, but have returned one pair. The tan pair are excellent, fit well and meet my needs. However, the second pair which appeared much darker green on the web, arrived a very different green, a color which i would not wear. I have returned this pair for a refund.

Columbia needs to re-think and go back to the original design of these shorts. So if you are trying to replace your original shorts with these .. I would not recommend .. they will fall short in comparison.

These shorts have only 3 pockets. You can not tell this from the picture or the detail description of the shorts. I previously purchased shorts similar to these but they had 5 pockets, I thought these were the same from the picture. However, there are no back pockets and only the 1 cargo pocket shown, none on the other leg. I was quite disappointed when I received these shorts. Also I can not find the shorts I purchased before on the current website. I really liked the shorts I purchased with the 5 pockets, what a bummer that they are no longer available.

Loved the length of these!
The only complaint I have is the elastic around the waist.
I can't get my pants tight enough...they are too loose for my comfort but fit me everywhere else.
My last pair of Columbia swim shorts (which lasted a really long time and were really old) had strings to tighten the waist line and I loved that...I could get my swim shorts tight enough I didn't have to worry about them falling off when I jumped into the water.

They call it a Cargo short but it is short on pockets. I wish it had more.

I really like the Columbia water shorts. I use them for swimming as well as work shorts during the summer. However, I have returned them (0n May 20) because the were too large for me. When I get your credit I will reorder in a smaller size.
