I have 2 pairs of these. I am 6'3" and 250 lbs. I bought 2xl and they run big, even for me. Second pair I ordered xl and they fit great. They are perfect for the beach or pool or water park. Plenty of pockets. Just wish the built in mesh underwear was a little thicker. And make sure you pop the threads that hold tag on back or belt will not slide back and forth when adjusting.

Loved the way they looked and felt but had to return them. They were a little too large. I've already ordered a new pair.

Have bought a few pair of theses shorts over the past few years in XL and fit perfect, now the XL are way to big and the L fit a little tight with no change in my weight or waist size . New supplier? Great shorts when they fit correctly.

I have a couple of other pair of Columbia water shorts. They are great! This is my first "longish" pait, they are also great.
My only gripe is that I expected a slightly darker shade of blue, not a show stopper, but if you're buying this color, please understand it's a bright blue.

The fabric, fit and functionality of this short is excellent. I bought 4 colors. Also, being 5'9" the 9" short was a perfect length.

Who couldn't use shorts which worked great whether wet or dry conditions at hand? Not only are they versatile but they look and feel great too. Sometimes you hit it out of the park with online purchases. This is one of those times!

Have only used these once, but they are very nice shorts. Great quality and I'm looking forward to wearing them when I visit Guam next month. As many as have stated, they do run a bit large. I wear 36" shorts and pants, so I ordered large. I should have ordered a medium. Not a big problem, since the strap is easily adjustable, as long as you remove the stitching for the tag on the waist. Also had a little chaffing from the webbing on the inside of my legs after wearing them, probably because of them being too big.

I like these shorts very much. Especially the belt which goes all the way around instead of being stitched down on the side seams. They're a tad too long for my preference, hence 4 stars, probably would have given 5 if the 9" inseam model was available when I purchased. Still, I bought 3 pairs. I love Columbia shorts!

The material feels light and airy. They're comfortable to wear in hot weather and dry fast.
Downsides about the waist band and belt:
- I found the waist band a bit tight to pull-over the hips since they barely stretch.
- Oddly, once the shorts are on, I'm unable to securely tighten the belt around my 30" waist since the belt appears sewn inside the waist band (the belt therefore does not appear to be removable).
- No loop to hold the belt's tag end, meaning that it dangles on the front when cinched.

I like these trunks. Run slightly large but quality is consistent with Columbia.

Columbia has fixed the belt problem on previous models and you have a real belt on this short. That's good. Sadly, they now have only 1 secure pocket (zipper), whereas previous models had 2 (zipper and velcro). I got my kayak wet this weekend and needed both.

Great, high quality shorts except for two things. First of all, a zippered back pocket would make these shorts far more convenient. Also, there is always an extra length of belt that hangs out. There must be another way to design these so the wearer can adjust the waistline without this sloppy look. Fix these two things, charge a couple bucks more and these shorts will be better than great. They will be awesome!

Disappointed that some of the colors did not come in the size I wanted. I prefer the 9" seam length to the 11" seam length. I would not purchase the 11" short in the future.

These shorts are nice, I mainly use for golfing.
I don't care for the belting system, leaves a lot to be desired.

These are some of the most comfortable shorts I have ever worn. They move with your body and do not pinch when doing activities such as running.

I purchased these for a two-week European land/cruise vacation. I am a one bag/carry on light traveler so I look for multi-function clothing to save space and weight. I wasn't planning on wearing shorts much and knew that I might want to swim in the pool on the ship. These served both purpose very well.
As others noted, the only drawback is that the belt is not continuous. It is "fixed" in the back of the shorts so if you purchase these large, the belt will tend to be off center when cinching up the shorts. I did not have this problem as the shorts fit well, but see how it could be a problem for some. Also, the belt actually seemed to be reversed for a male with the buckle on the right hals of the shorts.
The 9" inseam was just at my knees (I'm 6'1") which is just where I like them.
Overall, I liked these shorts and would recommend them.

I still would have bought the water shorts even if I had noticed they didn't have a back pocket but, that's the only reason they didn't score a solid 5. The quality of Columbia products is always a 5 & being able to order the slightly longer 11 is epic for me.
I'm not a fan of the bulky cotton cargo shorts, and I bought 6 pairs of the water shorts when I saw the price.
I don't kayak in them these days but I wear them to river and back, and pretty much everywhere I go on the weekend and after work. Great Product!!!!

True to size, comfortable, dry quickly, they perform as advertised. I'll buy another pair in the future. I just wish they had a back pocket.

I spend over a 100 days a year on the water in a kayak. During the summer these are my go to shorts while on the water. Light weight yet very durable. The material is quick drying which is important to me. My only complaint would be the belt will become loose easily. Other then that these shorts are great.

I was hoping these were the same, or similar shorts to what I already had. The ones I have had a mesh lining, separate of the pockets. While this pair does have a zippered separate pocket, I really preferred the other version. I actually cut out the mesh lining but still had the quick drying pockets. Overall, pretty happy to have these, though. I have a lot of Columbia stuff, and appreciate the quality!!

Nice pair of shorts, great material and wear. I wish this item was sold by the waist size in inches rather than SM, M, L. XL etc. which makes fitting harder. M was to small for me and L was too big!
