I have narrow calves and these would have been great, but the zipper is almost impossible to zip up and down at the bottom, the soles are slick (not good on wood floors or anywhere it could be icy), and they were too small. I always wear size 9 but these were way too small. I compared them to a different pair of boots and they were noticeably shorter.

Love Frye....but this zipper was too much for me....when you have to spend 5 minutes trying to get them zipped up the back...it was just too much for me. sadly these had to go back...

Man, I really wish these had worked. At the top, they fit my calf perfectly. However, the zipper kind of bows out on the back. It's weird. It forms a curve that leaves extra space in most of the calf area. Considering the price, these would need to be perfect, and they're not! :(

Beautiful boot but not for people with a small calf. There was too much leather in the back along the zipper and the top was gappy. The footbed fit like any other Frye boot. Please make a slim calf in these boots!

I have wanted Frye boots for years but none of them fit me correctly. These are the 4th style I have tried and I could barely get my foot into them (and it isn't the size--I've tried larger). It was a struggle to unzip them and I was never able to zip them up for fear of damaging the boot. Sadly, these will go back and I think I'm done with Frye.

The boot ran smaller than expected in the length but also I had difficulty zipping up the boot over my calf. I normally don't have too much issues but it felt smaller around the calf area.

Loved these and wanted boots with a zipper and more tailored fit them some of my other Fryes. After trying two different pairs that each fit differently, I threw in the towel and returned them. First pair had one very loose boot while the other fit about right. The replacement pair was very tight in the leg on both legs and left marks on my legs below the back of my knees after 10 minutes of wear. I returned them both and am now awaiting the same boot in the short version. What is up with the sizing issues? This is my second time this has happened.

Ordered these boots and they are great looking but as stated in some other reviews the fit in the calf is snug. I've never had to order wider calf boots and I could get these on and wear them with leggings or really tight skinny jeans but the comfort of the fit in the calf would probably bug me with how snug they are. Too bad because they have a great style and the foot bed fits true to size. Unfortunately I have to send them back.

When I opened the box, I was so happy with my purchase. These boots are absolutely beautiful! When I put them on I was so disappointed they did not fit in the calf. I have never had to buy wide calf boots so I was a little shocked that they did not fit. The Whiskey Antique is probably one of the prettiest boots that I have seen. I was definitely disappointed that I had to return these.

All of my Frye boots are great .... but these? Not so much. I'll be returning them. They look more boxy and masculine than I would like. The Camel color isn't as it appears online. It has a duller look. The marks on the leather appear like a bad attempt to give it a distressed look. As always, Zappos is the best with their customer service and speedy delivery. Ordered these yesterday and they arrived today.

Ok, what is everyone's deal with Frye Boots? This is the fourth pair I have ordered, I don't think they are particularly well made (whoever talked about the zippers was right, they don't really go up and down), the specs given were off (the calf circumference is more like 17" instead of the listed 13"), and the footbed is not comfortable. They always look so darn cute on everyone else, but as expensive as they are, I just don't see it! Oh well--back they go!

Make no mistake -- these are top quality, awesome boots. The leather is beautiful and they are like every Frye boot -- the gold standard. Unfortunately, I am retuning them because I did get them zipped -- but without room for a piece of paper to be in there with my leg. That means the only way I could wear them is under jeans (and with a short running-type sock) or with a skirt. I want to be able to tuck things inside to show off the whole boot -- otherwise just get a "bootie" style boot -- and those are not my thing. Also, I'm not sure about the whole harness style. I think they look good on other people I have seen them on, but I wear a size 10 and I just feel the extra "stuff" (i.e.-harness) makes these look even bigger. I have another pair of Frye riding boots in grey. They too are awesome and they are plain, so I will just stick with those. Giving the "Overall" and "Comfort" 3 stars just because they were so tight in the calf.

I've wanted these boots for months and finally broke down and ordered them. They are absolutely stunning, but I have some serious issues with them: 1. I'm a size 8 and could barely get my foot inside. I exchanged for an 8.5 and they were still quite snug (I'd return for 9, but they're sold out, so hoping the leather will eventually stretch a bit). 2. They are also on the narrow side...I think I can learn to live with this, but will continue to be annoyed until they're broken in. 3. The zippers are very difficult to use; they are nearly impossible to zip up on my own. 4. The construction of the left boot feels different than the right; the heel area seems to be angled differently. 5. I ordered a pair of the short Philip harness boots a couple months back in an 8 and had to return because they were literally two sizes too big. What gives? For the amount of money Frye's sell for and their reputation, you'd expect more consistent quality. I don't understand how there can be so many positive and negative reviews.

I ordered these online in a 10. I have a narrow foot and average to thin calves. 1. The zipper is very hard to work above the heel bone - it got stuck equally on both feet. 2. The regular width calf size boot - which I have never had a hard time wearing - was WAY too tight. We could (it took 2 people) get the zipper up, but the thought of having skinny jeans or leggings in there too was unimaginable. Sadly, after weeks of research on which Frye boots I wanted, I received them and returned them the following day. Excellent customer service & the boots looked GREAT in the box, just not on. It's just sad that the zippers don't work and sad that the regular calf size did not fit me or 2 of my friends with normal width calves who also wear a size 10. Also - the soles are VERY slick - just a note because I would think they are prone to slipping until sufficiently scuffed up! Oh, and I'm 5'9" and the boots are not quite as tall as I would have liked them to be on my legs.

I agree, these boots are quite difficult to zip. It's not possible to slip them on without unzipping them all the way. I did manage to get them zipped though, then they felt small for their size (I got an 8.5.)

I love everything about these boots, except the wrinkled leather shaft. They're really comfortable (fitted throughout ankle and calf which I like) and the leather is not shiny but still nice so they can be worn dressy or casual...but the wrinkled top part is what ultimately led to my decision to return them. If Frye made these with a straight leather shaft, I'd be sold hands down. So, if that doesn't bother you - they're awesome.

I wanted to much to love these boots - but sadly did not. I have thin calves (5'7", 125 pounds, size 9 shoe), and the boot just gaped too much at the top. Would probably be fine with jeans but I want the option to wear with skirts or dresses too. So hard to find boots that are not too wide!

I wanted to love these boots. Really, I did. I ordered them as a "Congratulations!" present to myself upon getting my new job, and when they arrived, I was so happy with the way they looked. Frye boots run about a half size large as a rule, so I ordered my usual 9.5. I slipped them on, and then attempted to zip them...nothing happened. I battled with those darn zippers for about a half hour, and could not get them to budge! My dad finally had to help me with my leg propped up on a kitchen chair; after ten minutes, he was finally able to get them to zip. I wore them around the house to try and loosen them up (once zipped, they felt fabulous!), and the zippers went down nice and easy when I took them off. Taking that as a sign, I tried to wear them the next day...and encountered the same problem. Frye leather is so thick and beautiful, that I think zippers were a poor design choice. I would have loved these boots, but alas; I can't zip them, so I can't wear them. Sending them back, and searching for a new pair once the return is credited.

Like many of the reviews for this boot, I found the zipper and the tight fit of the ankle just to difficult. This is even after wearing them in the house for 3 to 4 hours for 3 days. They never became comfortable. I have a narrow foot and although athletic, my calf is not huge. They were also too tight in the calf with skinny jeans. Beautiful boot but not for me.
