Like many of the other reviewers, I found the ankle and area right on top of my foot to be tight and narrow. I tried them with skinny jeans and then a dress with tights and in each case the boots were simply too tight. Back they go.

This is a nice looking boot and made well. I purchased a size 7, and they fit true to size. I did have to use a shoe horn though. I have one calf that's 15 inches and the other is 15 1/2 inches. They would only zip up half way. So, back they go. So far only one pair of the boots I have ordered have the correct circumference listed. Zappos please list calf circumference per shoe size.

These boots are beautiful in the picture, but they run very small. I wear a 7 1/2 to 8, so I ordered the 8, and could barely get my foot into them. I have tiny ankles, so the narrow ankle wasn't a problem -- in fact, it's one of the reasons I ordered this particular pair of boots. The toebox is pretty narrow as well, and there is no chance it will stretch. It's also very hard and has no padding on the top or sides. For someone like me with painful toes, these could never work. Style-wise, I thought they were pretty cool until I noticed an elastic insert in the upper shaft that they put on the outside where it's really visible. It really cheapens the appearance, and they aren't so narrow shafted that the elastic should even be necessary.

I was looking for a riding boot with a rounded toe and this was quite a bit more rounded than any other. I was a little put off by the look of the molded rubber(y) sole & heel, but I hoped that it would be offset by the comfort and style of rest of the boot. When they arrived, I tried really hard to like them but in the end they just looked like expensive rain boots, not riding boots. The foot-shaped toe (angled, not just rounded) reminded me of a duck foot. The shaft is more of a funnel shape than fitted, which isn't too flattering. It did have over an inch of ease around my 14.5" calves, though. The leather was a bit on the stiff side -- soft surface but it kind of buckled around the ankles when I walked. I sent them back and got some Enzo Angiolini boots that I like a lot better overall.

Boot has more of a flat grey-ish black finish. I have 15 inch calves and couldn't zip with skinny jeans. Foot is pretty fitted as well and didn't leave a lot of room for a thick sock.

Could not even get the boot on wearing my normal 2 pairs of socks in the winter (thin liner and thin wool sock). I do like these boots though! Will be returning the small version and going up .5 size...cross my fingers that the new one fits!

These are beautiful boots - which is why it's so disappointing to have to return them. The zipper doesn't go down far enough for me. The left boot was a tight fit to get over my ankle but the right one was impossible without serious ankle strain. Once the boot is on they're a wide width with good support...the initial drama is too much though. Thank you Zappos for making the return a breeze.

I was really excited about this boot because of its waterproof feature and the color...but oh my goodness, what an uncomfortable boot! I'm a fan of Merrell so I really wanted to love this boot but when I put it on my foot I immediately wanted to take it off. It was very stiff, cut into the top of my foot when I walked and while it looked cute enough...I didn't love how it looked. I'll be sending these back.

I bought these boots based on the many positive reviews they received. What a mistake! While these boots may be fashionable and comfortable, they are completely impractical. I assumed that because they are designed for use in "harsh weather," they would be suitable for wearing under wet, slick, or icy conditions. However, whatever traction these boots have on the bottom actually seems to make slippery conditions worse. When I wear them on either wet or icy surfaces, it feels as if I have little ice skates on the bottom of my shoes. They are actually dangerous -- they gave me a false sense of security because I'm wearing boots, after all! So, if you're looking for boots that "look cute with skinny jeans" for going to the mall, then perhaps this is the boot for you. If you're looking for boots that are fashionable and practical for winter weather, keep searching. Don't make the same expensive mistake I did.

I was so disappointed in this boot! I wanted it to work for a trip to Europe and had read so many good things about it. I am a normal sized 5'8 woman. I couldn't get my foot through the very very narrow ankle area. I wear a size ten, I could barely struggle my foot through the ankle. Once I did struggle it on, it fit great and was very comfortable. But, I can't keep a boot that pushes on my high arch (the top of my foot) and which I have to work for 20 minutes to get on every time. I am so very disappointed in Merrell. If the actual foot of a size 10 fit, why wouldn't they make the ankle wide enough for a size ten foot to fit through?

Cannot judge size or comfort because I couldn't even get my foot into the boot. Do I have the worlds highest instep?
