These boot meets my key requirements for comfort and functionality: the leather, (which looks more charcoal than black) resists scuffing, the sole is flexible, the toe box is spacious (my tender toes do not like being scrunched), the zipper works easily. The first time I wore them, I walked all day long gallery shopping on Santa Fe's uphill/downhill Canyon Road. The walkways were rocky and irregular, the curbs had mounds of snow. My feet were warm, comfortable, cushioned and ready for dancing that night.

I wanted to really like these (I have a pair of the Merrell Tetra Launch in brown that I love) but the faux belt detail seemed to throw the zipper off enough that it rubbed uncomfortably against my ankle no matter what I did. The black leather seemed thinner than the light brown (which is actually more of a mustard color FYI, and why I exchanged them). Merrell makes great boot soles, but the leather isn't quite warm enough for the coldest nights. Too bad, I wanted to like them, the top detail was really nice and they looked good.

I have informed my colleagues that, while it is not in my will, I want to be buried in these boots! Comfortable from day one, warm and cozy, lots of compliments. Worth the money! Initial attempts to get over my heel was difficult. After several weeks, it's still a tad tight but once on, they are perfect.

First off, kudos to the service and choices Zappos provides! Now to the boot - as almost everyone states, the ankle area is hard to get into, at first. I reread the reviews and tried again, no problem, I can wear a 7.5-8, went with 7.5 and will wear a thin smart-wool/ski sock when needed. Love the look, and these reviews were so helpful!

I have been looking for a mid to high calf boot for a while with low supportive heels, and these were them. They are beautiful. I have worn them with jeans and a skirt both with compliments.

I love the look of these boots. They should be good to wear when walking to work on stormy days, with a skirt or cropped pants. I have a wide foot with short toes, and the toe box on this was roomy for me. I usually hover between a 7½ and 8, and the 7½ worked perfectly for me. The heel can be a little tricky when getting my foot into the boot, but once I am in they are very comfortable.

I am overall very pleased with these boots. Was looking for a casual boot and these are definitely casual, outdoorsy looking, rugged, and waterproof. But still stylish enough. I have slender legs so they do still gap at top a little, but I wanted that so I could wear thick wool knee high socks with them with miniskirts. Very comfortable.

Very comfortable and warm for the fall weather. It is waterproof too so I can wear it in a rainy weather. I tried wearing it in a rainy/snowy/slushy weather and it did keep my feet dry but it was not warm enough for me. After walking around New York City, my feet were cold.

This is a waterproof low-heeled, comfortable, well-made boot -- exactly what I was looking for. However, the shaft circumference feels enormous (I know I have slim calves, but still) and the boots feel a bit wide. They are certainly a half-size too big, but that's okay as I'm a 11.5M, and the 11M is a very generous fit. I do wish the shaft were more narrow! Otherwise, a great boot.

These boots are terrific. I bought them for a recent trip to Paris. I wanted a pair of boots that would be weatherproof and comfortable enough to tackle all the walking and sightseeing, yet stylish enough to wear with tunics and dresses. These definitely fit the bill. My jeans fit easily in them and the comfort was amazing. No tired feet after walking 3-5 miles a day for 3 days.

Nice boot, not as dressy as I thought, However, they have the Gortex and anti mi-microbial lining which is a must. Fit well true to size. Just a bit big in calf. I also purchased the Timberland Charles St. Lexiss and I'm keeping both because Zappos customer service is five star!

Tried my actual size in this boot, too narrow. So tried the next size up which was the right length, but too sloppy in the heel. Boot is comfortable, and if you never plan on wearing socks, you might be fine in your regular size if your foot isn't too wide. Nice blend between casual and dress, but not for a fancy night out due to the oiled leather look.

Like the oily leather texture, and the cross between dressy and casual, but the size was a tad narrow. Did order the next half size up, which then became just large enough to slip everywhere. I'm bummed, so close. The hunt for the perfect boot almost tougher than the perfect jean, but love the ability to keep trying with all the options from Zappos.

Length was as expected, but could not zip boot over my jeans. I own another pair of Merrell boots and can zip those just fine. I do have larger calves, but these boots are not wide enough at the top for me. Too bad, they are very cute.

I love the comfort of Merrells and these certainly have that going for them. However, they were very tight on my 15.5 calves I could get them on with leggings but not with jeans. And even with leggings, they were uncomfortably tight. I also didn't like the look of them, honestly. They are fine for a super casual outing but they look more like work boots or galoshes....not stylish or sleek at all.

These are very cute boots but there is no way that the circumference is 16" - My calves are about 16" and I could not zip these past my ankles! Too bad because they are very cute!

This boot looks lovely and the leather is very soft, however, I could barely fit my foot inside the boot with the zipper all the way down. In fact, I had to put on a pair of thin slippery socks to get it on. I'm afraid I'll break the zipper. Plus, they looked a little galosh and not trim.

I absolutely loved these boots, however they are very snug and true to fit. I had no room for my toes to move forward as I walked. Sadly, I had to return these. :(

I ordered up a half size per commenter suggestion, and it fit my toes but was too loose in the ankle. Too bad, I liked the look and the shaft was not too clunky on my small calf. Returned.

These are really comfortable, but the leather looks cheap, and the shaft isn't wide enough for my big calves.

Ladies with big feet but normal-sized legs, beware -- listen to the reviews! Fit snugly around my size-10 feet but were absolutely swimming around my very average-sized legs. They looked like galoshes -- which is fine, except that I can get galoshes at the local hardware store for $10.

The size 8 was extremely difficult to get on even wearing the thinnest socks; it's tight across the top of the foot. The toe has a bit of that "duckbill" look, and the leather finish is dull, which makes it overall more casual looking than dressy. I liked the buckles. I have thin calves and the shaft wasn't too big. I'm returning them, and if it wasn't for the difficulty getting them on, I would try the next half size larger.

I wanted to love these boots. They are exactly the look I wanted, however, I am returning them because I cannot get my foot into these boots. Beware if you have a high instep - you will not be able to get the boots on, in spite of the zipper. I cannot answer any of the fit questions because I never got them on my feet!

I really wanted to love these boots. I bought a size 7, which I usually wear in the Merrell. But the footbed was too big. My foot fit into the 6.5, but my ankles were another story! I don't have big ankles or calves (I only weigh 105 lbs) but I couldn't get me and my skinny jeans into these boots. Too bad. Both are going back.
