Ok, let's kick this off by saying I had yet to find the perfect winter boot until NOW. Coming from Chicago (where the cold freezes your snot) and now living in Portland (where it rains 365.4 days a year) it was important to find a good boot that lasts. Sorel, thank you. This boot is super warm, extremely comfortable, looks rad, and allows for plenty of room (*I will say I have a wide foot, and this boot fits me easily, so you people with the narrow feet out there might be swimming a tad). I also want to remind you this is a WINTER BOOT. I read numerous reviews of people frustrated this boot was too "clunky" or "heavy". Listen, it keeps your feet warm at -25 degrees. What were you expecting? A boot as light as a ballet flat? Come on now. The boot has a purpose other than just being cute, so you have to take that into consideration. Overall, it's perfect. Bring on the rain, Portland!

I love these boots! I searched and read reviews for weeks on boots and finally decided on these. I ordered a half size smaller than I wear in tennis shoes and they fit perfect. They were really stiff when I first put them on, so I wore them in the house and bent the leather with my hands. Every time I put them on they feel more comfortable and broken in. They do not feel heavy to me like some others said in other reviews. Maybe my expectations on how snow boots will and should feel are different from theirs.

My feet can get uncomfortably cold very quickly, even in the summer months. I needed boots to keep my feet warm and dry this Chicago winter. I have a ways to walk each day in the city, and for last two months I've tested these boots in wet, snowy, and freezing conditions. They have performed beautifully and could easily take much more abuse. (To be honest, I've started to enjoy stepping in icy puddles and slushy snow piles.) The shoes are well built; the leather is thick and durable. They are roomy, allowing for thick wool socks. I haven't needed more than my everyday cotton socks but I would recommend wool socks if you are going to be out for an extended amount of time in cold weather. I have big and slightly wide feet, size 12-13. I got the size 12 and they fit comfortably all around. If you are between sizes, I would go down. They do take a minute or two longer to put on than other shoes especially if you have a higher instep, but it's expected with lace up boots. All in all, I feel like I made a smart investment in a classy boot that will last me for years to come.

Three words - giant clown feet (by no fault of Zappos, their photos, or helpful video). I had no idea the black rubber toe of these shoes is huge! Even with the insert. Speaking of that felt-ish fabric insert - it makes it impossible for your feet to get in and out. Literally, it's a 5 minute process. And if you take it out? The boot is 2 sizes too big. I'd been eyeing these boots for a long time, but thankfully the return process was so painless I can quickly replace them.

The boots have it all - warmth, comfort and classic styling. I have wide calves and these fit great. They are a bit on the clunkier side, but you're not going to get much slimmer or sleeker for the warmth and function these provide. And having tested them against a few other Sorel boots, these are the least bulky. What I love about them is that I can wear them in the cold and my feet are warm but not hot. Just tried them out in 5 degree weather (-15 windchill) and my feet were toasty warm. And they don't slip on ice like some other popular brands.

Love theses Sorel 1964 Premium LTR boots! I originally bought the Caribou because I've always loved that look but they were a bit too moon booty! And seriously, I live in So Cal! These are just perfect and the color is great. Zappos return policy made it so easy. They look exactly as they do in the pic but better! They run a teeny bit big but I think you want that to wear bigger socks. I'm normally an 8 or an 8.5 and the 8 is perfect, still room for big socks!

Comfortable and WARM. Stylish as well, but in a rugged outdoors way. They are not bean duck boots, they are a big step up if you are into trekking around in the mud and snow (I owned a pair for 30 years and I like these better). My feet are never cold or wet in these and the leather uppers take brambles and streams with ease. Every time I wear them the leather breaks in a little more. The quality is awesome!

I like this shoes! They are great for keeping your feet warm and dry during the snow. They are a bit “clunkier” and larger than i had hoped but also to be expected for a pair of heavy duty winter boots. Walking is easy, I can wear thin socks and be fine or thicker socks- takes a little to stretch and feel comfortable but I was good after awhile. The look is cute. A little difficult for me to drive in them burn I am adjusting. Overall happy with my purchase!

These boots are clownish. They fit but they look so huge on my feet I feel like I’m wearing my husbands boots. Not cute at all. They are warm but I’d love a warm boot that doesn’t make me look like I’m wearing a size 16.

I bought my first pair five years ago and they finally crapped out on me. I ordered a lot of of styles and boots, but came back to this exact pair. I have wide feet and chunky legs and I’m able to slide my foot in and out (I keep a few of the top notches loose). I wore and wear these all the time. I have even worn them for an entire day in wet sloppy rain (burger festival - yum). Yes, they are wider, and some of the reviews say they look like clown feet, but meh... they’re snow boots. Err’body be lookin’ like clowns.

These are perfect for snowy/cold walks in the upper Midwest. They're comfortable, but quite heavy. The insert also slips out, which I find annoying but not unexpected.

I absolutely love these boots. I originally wanted the 1964 Premium Canvas, but since I specifically wanted Sorel because of its longevity, I decided to go with the 1964 Premium LTR that will never go out of style or look silly on me 20 years from now. Purchasing the boots from Zappos was super fast and there were no taxes or shipping costs. I am a size 10 and ordered a 9, they fit fine. I cannot wait for it to snow!

I love these boots! They are lined with a really nice, thick felt that keeps my feet warm in the snow. I usually wear a 6.5, but ordered a 6 because I know how wide duck boots can run. The 6 fits me perfectly, so I might recommend ordering down if you wear a half size.

The boots are warm as can be, not to mention cute!
I have not worn them in snow yet, but I'm ready when it comes! I usually wear a size 10, but I ordered a 9 and it's perfect. They are a little stiff to walk in but they are not broken in yet either.

These boots are great! Old school Sorel look, lightweight (for a snow boot) and the leather is gorgeous! I can't wait for the first blizzard of the year!

Here's the thing.
These boots actually fit true to size. I read a lot of reviews about sizing and in shoes I'm an 8.5 and boots I usually get a 9 so I can wear a thick sock. I ordered an 8.5 (based on the reviews about them running slightly large) and I tried on the boots with a super thick sock. My feet fit but it was very tight. I tried on thinner socks and they fit much better. I wore them around for 4 hours and they started to stretch out a bit. I kept the removable insert in the whole time.
Now, if I were to remove the insert, which is really only needed in cold weather, I could wear a thicker sock no problem. My feet are average width but I don't like my toes squished. This toe bed was roomy enough without being too big. I'm not a fan of the typical L.L. Bean style duck boot with the narrow toe so if that's your style these will definitely feel like clown shoes. If you actually plan to wear these in the woods, rain, and mud they'll be perfect.
I bought the dark brown ones and they're beautiful. I hope to keep these forever.
If you want to wear a super thick sock WITH the insert and you're in between sizes I would size up a half size. But just keep in mind that if you remove the liner you'll have a lot of extra room.
I'd also recommend:
Frye, Hunter, Converse

These seem like a real serious boot! Well made, and seriously designed to keep the elements out and your foot warm. They just weren't for me. One thing is that my leg just balked against a tall boot. But, also, there is a heavy-duty liner inside. While I can see all kinds of value in that liner, it made getting into the boot a chore, and I just don't think I, personally, need that much boot after all.

Heavy duty boot! Very stiff. Would be great for the snow. Nice and wide, would fit thick socks perfectly. These run big! I ordered my normal size 10, they fit like 10.5, almost 11! My husband even commented on how big they look, almost like guy boots. Nice liner to keep your feet warm. I don't live in or near the snow, so these are little too heavy duty for my needs, will be returning them. Otherwise lovely boot, quality materials and good looking too!

These boots seem like they would've been perfect for keeping my feet dry and warm in the outdoors. Unfortunately they are just way too wide! I have a large foot, both in length and width, but this boot was still too roomy for me. As usual, returning was a cinch with Zappos return policy.

After reading reviews, I ordered the size I usually wear, expecting to be able to wear medium-thick socks with these boots. These boots run small, as they were too small even for my bare feet. My toes came to the end. I'm not going to order a larger size, because these boots are the typical medium width for women's shoes. Not wide enough for me, even barefoot. Since hardly anyone makes women's winter boots for wide feet, I'm going to try the same style boot in men's.

I was so excited to get the classic-looking Sorels. I live in MN and need good winter boots.
Despite the cold rating, I found my feet were freezing all the time in these. The sole is very thin, and the cold seeps in from the ground. The rubber also gets very stiff in the cold and doesn't have great traction.
Then, after only two winters of use, the rubber on one of them completely separated from the bottom of the sole. I discovered this when out on a snowy day and suddenly my sock was all wet from the snow leaking in.
Super disappointed in what used to be a quality brand. Definitely not worth the price.

I had a rubber pair of Sorel 1964 Premiums from two years ago and loved them so much that I wanted to get them in a higher quality material. Unfortunately these are not higher quality. I received the boots in November and now two months later the leather upper has torn away from the rubber on both boots at the back heel. So disappointing for the price. I hope to be able to return them. What a shame.
I'd also recommend:
