These are a beautiful color, leather, and sole. Pricey, but well worth it. Like most Frye products, they get more comfortable with wear.

I've been looking for a black pair of riding style boots with a twist for years and now I've found them! I'm tall; 5’10" with size 9.5 feet and size 13" calves. These boots are not a tight fit around the calf, but they are the closest I've got and I love them! They're really well-made and the leather smells fantastic! I haven't worn them that much yet, but looking forward to it! So far they're worth the money.

I love these boots. They look like a classic riding boot. The quality is much better than most boots I've looked at. Great leather, well-made sole, etc. Only negative thing I have noticed is that one of my top snaps occasionally unbuttons itself, but it's an easy fix.

Awesome boots - such a modern color - I am not a fan of chocolate brown, this color is so much cooler. Not sure how they came up with grey as the description, it is really a cool taupe. I get tons of compliments on these boots. Great modern shape. This is my second pair of Frye boots. I also have the Veronica Slouch which looks great and this is their 4th fall/winter season. Totally worth the investment!

These seem like boots to keep for years and years because the style is classic and the quality are outstanding. I got them in black soft vintage. They fit like a glove. The leather is great. Really soft and flexible. They look great with black leggings and cute with a dress. I feel like I can walk for miles in them. Perfect for everyday wear and shopping. Easy to get on and off.

These are beautiful, classic boots that I am positively thrilled with! I ordered them in dark brown, size 7, and they fit perfectly. Color is gorgeous.

These boots were exactly what I was looking for. I wanted something that fit small through the calves and that did not have gold or silver buckles. They look well-made and classic.

I bought these because I liked how they looked online and because of all the great reviews here and they did not disappoint! They are exactly as other reviewers have noted - very comfortable, very nice looking, the leather is soft, not stiff like some boots. I have slim but not skinny calves and these fit perfectly. I bought the dark brown vintage a half size up because they did not have my size, and ordered the grey in my size just to try them even though I wasn't convinced about the color, but it's unique and I really like it so I'm keeping them and returning the dark brown, which is a more traditional-looking color.

Beautiful color/style...scuffs and scratches very easily. My first pair I ordered already had a scratch so I sent them back and got another pair to find I scratched them myself just getting them out of the plastic. I recommend using some type of leather protector on these if you care about scuffs.

I love the simplicity of these riding boots and the quality craftsmanship helps to justify the price. Having a zipper allows you to be able to get your foot in and still have a slim fit around the calf. I find them comfortable to walk in too.

These boots are absolutely perfect. They have a look of a traditional dressage/riding boot without the tortuous break-in period. The leather is both thick and supple and I was able to slip them on and walk comfortably right out of the box. They are beautifully made and will last a long time. I am 5'2" and fairly petite and this is the first pair of riding boots I have tried that fit my calves perfectly and there is no slippage on the heel thanks to the zipper. I ordered the black and the color is gorgeous. My regular size 6 1/2 was a perfect fit. I can't recommend these highly enough -- they are worth saving your money for!

Got these boots recently. I am a big fan of Frye boots. I got them in the gray color which is more of a greige color. It goes with so much. They are super comfortable. Very true to size and not too "western" looking like some of the Frye styles. I absolutely love them and will be wearing them with everything this fall and winter. Highly recommended.

I really love these boots. They are a bit of a splurge, but I've been searching for a fit like this for years. I'm about 6' tall with narrow calves, with size 10.5 feet. Buying boots that look okay with my legs is tough. Generally, the calf on boots always bulges out on my leg about 3" too low, not to mention that all size 10-11 boots tend to have large calves. The zipper allows the boot to fit snugly to my leg and the calf (though still lower) is really tight, so I'm happy with it. Also, it's impossible to find a size 10.5 boots. I bought size 10 and they are a little snug, but not uncomfortably so. An 11 would be a little too big.

True to size, but I ordered the gray and it was really brown, not even brownish gray.

Not only do I have larger than average calves, but I have smaller feet and little ankles. I have been trying to find a pair of quality brown leather boots for over a year now, and have been unsuccessful with any of the pull-on styles from Frye. However, I did find some zip-up boots in other brands that fit, but didn't quite match the quality of Frye boots, so when I stumbled across the Melissa Button Back Zips, I thought I would try my luck. I could smell the leather as soon as I opened the box, and they were, as usual, beautifully made, great quality. I found the fit in the foot to be just fine, but I also have narrow feet. There was a lot of room in the ankle area, and bunched up on the sides and toward the back, which seems to be par for the course in just about every boot I try on these days. I could see that eventually, the ankle area would wrinkle permanently over time. Unfortunately, in addition to my large calves, small feet, and little ankles, I also have short legs, and while the item information stated the shaft width would be roomy enough, my calves unfortunately begin to widen at a point lower than where the boots begin to widen. I couldn't zip them all the way up, and back in the box they went. You win again, Frye...

Love the boots. Only complaint -- my legs tend to open the snaps when I cross and uncross my legs. It's not a big deal but a little annoying. Other than that -- all is good.

These are absolutely beautiful boots. Top quality leather, but the leather soles are slippery. I have narrow feet and never have a problem with shoes being too narrow - these boots are an exception...they are extremely narrow. I'm going to exchange them for a size up and hope that this will help.

I love the look of this boot, but had two problems to deal with. The first is that the calf is quite tight. I went up a half size to get this to zip on my leg. Even a half size larger, I can only wear them with tucked-in leggings. They won't zip around my skinny jeans. (I am slightly overweight, so this could contribute to the issue). The other problem is that the snaps pop open. I sent back a pair that wouldn't stay snapped and got a pair that does. Then one of my friends complained to me that her boots don't stay snapped... Otherwise, love the boot.

I love these boots! The quality of leather and the comfort of the sole are none other than, Wow. Well worth the money. My only warning is be sure to measure your calf. This is my first pair of Frye boots. I have never had a problem in the calf before, but these were tight. Almost couldn't zip up. The more I wear them, the more comfortable they get. Finding someone who could stretch the leather might be helpful.

After a couple of years searching for the perfect brown riding boots, I finally found them. After debating over the price, I finally decided to get them. I love them and got compliments from strangers when wearing them out for the first time. The only tiny thing that makes them loose a star is that the buttons often spontaneously come undone while walking. Other than that, this is a beautiful boot that was definitely worth the money!

These are beautifully made. They have a comfortable footbed with some type of gel insole? It is unfortunate that this boot would be better for someone with bigger ankles or fatter/ thicker calves.

I wanted to love these boots. They look beautiful and fit over skinny jeans nicely (and my calves are athletic). As I walked with them on around my house though, I could not get over an issue with the arch, which I never have with other shoes, boots, or other Frye boots I own, It was either too high, or not in the right place... back toward the heel a bit too far and while it did not hurt walking around a few minutes, I most likely will not stop thinking about it when I have these on. They are going back. This may have just been an issue with the pair I received as others seem to love these boots.

Im a huge fan of Frye boots -- there is just nothing that compares to their quality of leather and workmanship and they really do get better with time. I love the sleek, understated look of these boots -- assisted by the back zip which is so flattering. The two snaps are a nice touch. Occasionally, they come unsnapped as other reviews noted (mostly when crossing/uncrossing legs) but it really isn't enough to bother me. The leather inside and out is perfect. There is a very odd lump from a heel pad that extends into the arch that is extremely uncomfortable. Other reviewers noted it and four friends tried the boots on and felt it immediately. It's like having a sock bunched up into a tight wedge at an awkward part of your instep. It's uncomfortable at best, and after a few hours painful. But, I still give these boots five stars because it will be a quick fix for a shoemaker to replace the insole with one long flat piece (like every other Frye boot I have) rather than this odd two-piece model.
Note that the calves are slim on these, which is one thing that I love about them. It contributes to the streamlined look. My legs are "chicken leg" skinny and these are still loose with skinny jeans under them. But, they are so much better than any other pair of boots that I have tried on. Overall, I highly recommend ... and Zappo's great price and incredible fast shipping makes them even better!

Saw these boots online and was instantly drawn to them - classic, chic, elegant English style...had to try them. Fortunately for me, as a guy, my feet aren't unwieldy and I'm able to easily fit into a size 11m. The fit is excellent! The leather is of good quality- I've seen better, but in shoes that are $500+ which is understandable- and that is not to say it isn't wonderful. At some point there are diminishing returns on the quality of leather...I digress. I really like this boot. Paired with skinny jeans, a nice button down, sport coat/jacket/vest and you've nailed the classic English/euro look. Fantastic!

These boots are life-changing. I've had them for a month and a half now, and I have to force myself to wear other shoes. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true. These boots are incredibly comfortable. At first the arch seemed misplaced but after about 2 days they were molded perfectly to my feet. There was a little bit of a breaking in process (hello, blisters my old friend) but it didn't take really long. Second, these boots are absolutely breathtaking. The quality of leather is literally amazing. I find myself absentmindedly petting them sometimes; the term "buttery leather" was made for these. This may have been because I got the vintage soft leather, but I imagine the others are just as high quality. I only have two slight negatives to point out: a, the reviews saying the top snap unsnaps really easily are absolutely correct. Fortunately, it's really not difficult to re-snap a snap and I don't see why people were so turned off by it. B, these have really smooth soles when you first get them and they will be really slick. Even after having them for as long as I have I still can't wear them in any kind of snowy/icy conditions without having to consciously walk to avoid slipping. This is easily fixed by taking them to a cobbler, but I'm lazy. One last thing I'd like to say is that I bought these with the Frye conditioning cream, which is amazing! It doesn't fully waterproof the boots, but it does seem to protect it from water stains. I know the price tag on these is pretty hefty, and this was by no means a casual purchase for me, but it was so worth it. I'm saving up for another pair in a different color - no joke!
