Beautiful boots but I'm returning them. The charcoal looks way more like brown than grey. Needed black boots, not another pair of brown ones.

Nicely made boots, but the design doesn't flatter my physique, so they're going back. The design is wide enough at the top to fit over my larger calves but rather than tapering to a narrower ankle, they are straight as stovepipes and are very unflattering at the ankle. They also were less comfortable than the other boots I tried (e.g., Born) and are noticeably narrower in the footbed. Also worth noting, these are pull-on style - no zipper.

I wanted so badly to love these boots! They're gorgeous on, but they slip off my heel, and that makes me sad. Can't even go another size down because they fit perfectly otherwise. Went half a size down from my usual and that works for the rest of the foot. Charcoal color, like other reviewers have said, is definitely more brown.

These are nicely styled boots that can be worn casually or dressy. They are the perfect heel height. They are comfortable. I usually wear a 6½ but I needed a 6 in Fryes.

My wife loves the appearance of the boot. They are just as presented in the picture. My only disappointment is not with Zappos, but Frye did not line this boot. My wife has the Jane Tall Stitching boot and the Jane Tall Over the Knee boot which are lined. I hope they do not start cutting the full quality they have always manufactured. Frye also used to be made in the USA.

These boots are very nice looking & well made (very true to the picture, the leather is quite dark). They are also very heavy to wear & they feel a bit bulky to me. I typically wear size 6.5 but get my boots 1/2 size larger to accommodate for thick socks. The size 7 in these are loose on me so I'd recommend you go with your normal shoe size unless you have a really wide foot. The shaft/calf area is wider than I would like but accommodating for those with larger calves & wearing pants plus tucked. They also have no lining in the shaft which would have been beneficial when pulling on a knee-high boot with no zipper. Nice looking but missing a few details that would have made them really great.

I love these boots, however they are not the color I was hoping for. I ordered the Charcoal and assumed that they would be gray in color, but they were really a brown. If I did not already have a pair of Frye boots in brown, I would have gladly kept them.

I just bought the Jane Strappy boot in dark brown in my normal size of 6.5 to wear with running socks. The sizing seems a bit odd to me, I have ample heel slip and the toe seems long however if I went down a half size, the arch of the shoe wouldn't fit where it should and it may be too narrow across the ball of the foot. I think it's just made that way which is weird. There is padding to make the boot comfortable while walking, however there is a dip in the padding at the ball of foot near on the side of the big toe and I experienced friction during my 2.5 mile boot-test-walk in that specific area despite socks. The heel height is fine for brisk walking through the city, I didn't feel like the height could impede my walking speed at all. The boots have a very strong smell, not just a nice leather smell, but kind of "off-gas" and leather smell so these are being stored in the garage until that fades.

Very cute & comfortable boot! Not too wide around my calves & I have skinny legs. Only negative I have to say is regarding color. I ordered the charcoal & in the natural light outside they look closer to brown. I've asked many people their opinion & they agree. I will still keep because they are such a cute boot.

These boots are fantastic! You can adjust the calf size and ankle so they look made for you! Beautiful style and very comfortable. I ended up returning them and exchanging them for the black color. I originally ordered the charcoal color. They were a very pretty deep brown color. Since when is brown charcoal? When I got them I thought I had gotten the wrong boots. Called customer service and the lady I spoke with was great! She spent a lot of time with me trying to figure out if I had gotten the wrong pair or if these boots were really a brown color. Decided to have her send me another pair and they were the same deep brown. Charcoal should be a grey/black color. If you want a nice deep neutral brown, this is a great color, just not what I wanted. Very disappointed because I have a ton of black boots and wanted something different. Ended up keeping the black because they were so pretty. Zappos was the best at helping me!

I have wanted Frye boots forever but finally took the plunge and bought these boots. I love the color (charcoal), style, heel height and calf length is perfect. These boots look great with everything I have tried on and have booted my other boots out of the closet! Cannot wait to rock them! Made in Mexico - leather experts, not China!

I was terribly disappointed in these boots. I'd read all the reviews and so am wondering if the pair I received was actually defective. There was ZERO sole between my foot and the edge of the heel. I could literally feel my heel settling into the the stacked heel of the boot with the edge of the boot's heel digging into my mid foot. Bizarre. If it weren't for that, I would have loved them. They were a beautiful milk chocolate color with soft leather. I have runner's calves and they fit well. The heel would have been a good height. The construction was just terrible though. Based on previous comments, I'll just assume they were defective but now I've moved on to a different but similar pair so I won't be trying again.

Great looking boot - slipped right on but there's a bump in the arch of the boot that was extremely uncomfortable as soon as I put it on.

This is a great looking boot, but the color I ordered (tan) was not as pictured at all. It's darker, and I don't like shade of this particular brown color, so am returning. I have this same boot in the brown suede, and it looks great. Again the picture on the website doesn't depict the color accurately. The brown suede is much darker and looks much better than the website picture.

I loved these boots the first few times that I wore them, but I absolutely loathe how the buckled strap ends have curled out and will not lay flat. I now have to try to tuck/fold them under - and that too looks ridiculous. The boots have also stretched out so much that they can hardly be worn - even with super thick socks. Too bad - my other Frye boots have been amazing. Sadly, these were an expensive mistake.

I love the straps and color of this boot. However, my boots are not lined and my socks are getting bunched up when I wear them-which is really disappointing for a Frye boot.

After almost a year of owning these boots I have to say that I regret purchasing them. While they overall are still in pretty nice looking condition (the foot bed and the shaft), they have stretched out so much and are super loose- even after inserting an instep. Worst of all (or perhaps more annoying) the upper straps are now super wacky looking. They flop and twist - which would not be so troublesome if the underneath portion of the straps were actually black, like the boot. I have a handful of other Frye boots that I love (many of them have lasted for years and years), but these are unfortunately not one of them. Too bad as they were not cheap.

In my quest for a fabulous black boot this fall, I ordered the Jackie Back Zip, Carmen Harness, Pippa, Jane Strappy, and Karla Engineer, all in size 6. The Jane Strappy is a great looking boot, but because there is not lining, it's more slouchy, which apparently is the intent. I have narrow feet and slim calves and this boot was the biggest around, even when I cinched the straps on the last hole, which made the top bulge out. And the leather strip on the back of the shaft was visibly crooked on the right boot. Not very attractive. It was also very loose in the heel, so much so that it felt like I was walking out of them. Maybe a 5.5 would fit better but I'm not sure how much they will slouch over time and I don't want a saggy, baggy boot. The fatigue suede looks pretty but I don't think I want to try them. Anyway, these went back along with the Jackie Back Zip, Pippa.

Cute online, but too slouchy in person. Did not fit my leg shaft correctly, just looked lumpy and sloppy. Returned.

The reason I gave it a 3 was because there was a glaring defect in the leather which was not just the natural variation in leather. It was a former rip/gash which was seamed back together with a white film around the seam. This is not acceptable given when one paid full price for a new pair of boots, at this price. I had to unfortunately send it back. Also the color is more a dark brown grey, rather than a true grey.

To me this boot felt a half size to full size too large. They were too long, too wide and way too large around the calf of my leg. Unfortunately I loved them and wore them around the house hoping they would form to my foot with time as I have read that they often do, so I was unable to return them. But the boot was gorgeous and good quality. I ordered a different style in the same size and they fit perfectly. i will try to sell them online or to a friend.

Well, after a few months of wearing these boots - I must confess that I do not love them like I should. They were crazy expensive (in my opinion) and are super stretched out now - especially in the legs - which are now starting to slouch (not the look I was going for with these boots). My calves are thin and they were loose from the beginning, but now they are really baggy. Each of the little buckle flaps are all beginning to curl up and flip out, which looks totally weird, especially because they are not black underneath (like the boots) instead, they are brown. Yuck. I ordered my typical size 9 and am now swimming in them and will definitely have to purchase an insole to avoid flopping around any further. I'll continue to wear them because I have to be able to justify spending the crazy price for these boots. Ho-hum. (Too bad, I love my other Frye boots - but these do not even kind of compare.)

I have wanted a pair of Fryes forever. I love how these look and luckily received them as a gift. They are gorgeous and fit my lean calves quite well (just tight enough under jeans); I ordered half a size down as recommended and they very comfortably fit my feet. There is, however, obviously a serious problem with quality control wherever they are made. First pair that I got? The heel lining started coming out the first time I wore them. Returned them. Second pair? Leather grain on the back clearly did not match. Returned. Third pair? Visible scratch on the front of the boot. Returned. Fourth pair, chips to the soles, but whatever, minor issue and I adore them so I kept them. Now, the lining that runs across the top of my foot has wrinkled, causing irritation. Now I need to take them to a shoe repair place to see if they can do something. I really expected more for the price.

Nice boot but a bit stiff and doesn't fit a small calf very well at all. I wouldn't buy them again and thinking about returning them. :(

I was so ready to love these boots. I'm a size 9 with relatively narrow feet. I ordered a size 9 and worried that they would be too big because a few reviewers suggested buying a half size down and I have had to order half a size down in other Frye boots. They fit perfectly and were actually a little narrow even for me. The boots are very handsome but I think they were made to wear with skinny jeans. I bought these boots to wear with skirts. They made my calves look much bigger than they need to be and were just overall unflattering. I am disappointed because they are not what I wanted them to be. I have a pair of Carson boots and love them! I wear them as much as I can. I guess I was hoping for that feeling again...just not there this time around. I will keep looking!
