I bought these 2 years ago and they are still the best shoes I've ever had. I wore them pretty much daily when I lived in New York. They are fairly long, I'm between sizes and went with the larger and was able to wear with thick socks in the winter. The footbed has a nice squishy feeling. The heel adds a bit of height without it being uncomfortable for a day on your feet. A word about the soles: The soles on mine wore completely through in about a year. I was horrified, but then I went on the Frye website and discovered that if you save your receipt, you can have them resoled for free for two years after you buy them! When they came back they had soled them with leather soles, but the kind they put on their other boots (not the thin slippery ones they came with), so they are better now then they were originally. Amazing. Thanks to Zappos and to Frye for being so great.

I have been searching high and low for a pair of boots that would be super supportive without looking like orthopedic shoes. These are the perfect pair! Wore them all weekend on my feet at a craft fair and they felt great. Wasn't sure if I needed to waterproof them or not (didn't want them to get water stains), but they seem to have survived a little rain without waterproofing anyway.

I have been looking for simple, non gimmicky boots to wear with pants, shorts, and skirts. I live in the Bay Area, so I can get away with wearing shoes like this throughout the summer months. I was also looking for a lighter color because I wanted to wear them in the summer. I first bought the taupe because they were on sale and also because the color was what I was looking for. When I received them the color was sort of band aidy and the heel is a lighter color than the other heel/shoe color combos. I also fluctuate between a 7 and 7 1/2 but lately I have been wearing 7's for some strange reason. Anyway, I ordered a 7 and they seemed a bit long in the toe. The width seemed ok, but my feet are neither really wide or narrow. After reading some reviews, I thought I would try a 6.5, so I returned these and got the 6.5 in cement color. I have NEVER worn a 6.5 in my life, but what the heck, I thought I would try it because Frye shoes tend to run a tad big. I got the shoes and they seemed like they fit perfectly! The toe seemed to fit better and I thought I had found my shoe....BUT, after about 5 min of sitting/walking around the house they started pinching the side of my foot like crazy. There is a part of the leather that is layered on the inside part of the shoe that was pushing on my foot. After that I realized I just really love the boot, but I needed a 7. So, happy with the color, I ordered a 7 in the cement and it arrived the next day! Wow, Zappos is so speedy! In the end. The whole boot debacle was worth it because these shoes will last forever. I have a pair of Frye boots that I have had the past 3 years and they will last another 20. It is really worth investing in a pair of good shoes. Also, these shoes (and my other Frye boots) have a leather sole, so it would be wise to take them to a shoe repair person and have them put a little rubber base on the bottom of the shoe. It will make your shoes last f-o-r-e-v-e-r and it's not that much money (my shoe guy charges about $15 each shoe to do this). You can choose different thicknesses of rubber so you won't even see it when you are wearing them. If you don't put rubber on your shoe it will wear out a lot faster especially if the shoe gets wet because it is leather. It also really helps with the slip factor, and I am such a clutz I don't need any additional help in that area. I do wish the toe was just a half inch shorter because what girl wants her foot to look bigger than it really is? But, I searched and searched and could not find a comparable lace up boot with a shorter toe. Even with the toe issue, I think this is a classic boot that has a timeless look. It won't look outdated in a few years and they are so adaptive you can style them in any look you want: bohemian, vintage, menswear, etc.

One of the best Frye boots I have. The Carson Lace Up is very comfy right out of the box; plenty wide for me. I am a solid 9.5 B - that's what I ordered and they are perfect. I bought the Slate Antique color for something different than Black or Brown. The color is beautiful; a bit on the Grey side, but I can see some Blue in there too. Heel height is perfect and very walkable. Unlike some Frye boots, these were made in Mexico. The leather is soft and flexible and smells great. Okay, I'm a freak, I love the smell of leather! Anyway, this is an awesome boot and I am very happy with it.

I was looking for a pair of shoes to wear with skinny jeans and saw these on sale. After reading the reviews I decided to purchase the size 8's since I wear between and 8 or 8.5. They are comfortable and I get lots of compliments. These are my first pair of Frye's and they won't be the last!

Very comfortable shootie! It does run a size big, I normally wear a 10 and sometimes a 10 is tight. I ordered a 10 and they were too big, so I returned them for a 9 1/2. I kept the 9 1/2 but I could have easily gotten a 9 because these are still a little big.

Wow. This is how shoes should be made. Don't let the price put you off - it will last 20 times longer than any $50 shoe, and looks like quality in every detail. I've just gotten them, so they haven't been broken in yet, but these are the kind of shoes that you will live in and repair if they ever wear out. Love it.

I love these shoes. So comfortable! I am usually a 9 3/4. I decided to go with the 9 1/2 and it fit perfectly. I also bought another pair of Frye boots at the same time and the 9 1/2 was too small but not these beauties. The style looks great with any pair of jeans or shorts and any dress. I was looking for a pair of combat boots until I found these and I like this style so much more now. My Frye obsession continues. Also, Zappos has the best customer service I have ever experienced. I suggest downloading the Zappos app. The shopping is easier and I was able to chat with customer service through texting to get a return processed.

Eleven buys and returns later I have found the perfect boot! Yes, that's how wonderful the Zappos.com experience has been for somebody like me who wants to make sure their money is well spent. I have never owned a shoe this expensive. It is true to size, no breaking in necessary, all leather, stunning looking. I plan to wear it all through the next few semesters of grad school. I wanted something comfortable, good looking and durable. I hope this will last me a long time. I have only worn it around the house. I normally wear a 10-10.5 and I bought a 10 in this and it fits perfect, maybe a tad roomy. It will be perfect with socks. Thank-you Zappos!

I love these shoes! I bought them right before my vacation and I was able to pack lighter because they really look good with everything. I walked the streets of Istanbul in them all day long for five days and they were super comfortable. Never gave me any trouble even though they were brand new. They are little long but I didn't take 1/2 size smaller because my feet are really wide and that wouldn't work for me (I even tried it but the front part of the shoe is too narrow for my foot to fit into even though it's long enough). If you don't have wide feet you should probably order 1/2 size smaller. They seemed little stiff at first but they became soft after about first 1/2 hour of wearing them.

Wow, I love these boots. I wear a narrow shoe and was a little worried there would be too much room but they are perfect! laced them up went to work. Not one complaint. I am getting another pair in cognac as soon as I can afford it. Worth every dollar.

Love! Eyed them for a couple years before finally purchasing. Definitely worth it, no regrets. They look great with everything, mad compliments. Sometimes I size up for boots, but I ordered my usual 6.5 & they fit perfectly. Felt tight at first, but have worn in quickly. Very comfortable aside from the fact that my feet are so used to flat shoes that even a slight heel took a bit of adjusting. I do suggest taking them to a cobbler to get a thin layer of rubber put on the soles for traction & to protect them.

I've been looking for a classic vintage-looking black lace up boot for a while. When I saw these I fell in love! I'm always an 8 and when I tried the 8 on it was definitely too big, width and length. So I tried the 7 1/2. The 7 1/2 are a little long with about a full thumbs width at the toe (although with the curved toe I think it must be necessary to have a bit more length) but they fit perfectly everywhere else. I even tried the 7 and the length was ideal but the heel and the width were too snug (even with the laces looser). All in all, despite the extra length, you can adjust the fit with the laces and maybe wear thick socks in the winter (but if you live in a place with dreadful snowy/icy winters you may want to avoid these shoes altogether. Leather soles on snow, scuffed up or not, are a recipe for disaster and a sore bum!). These shoes feel worn in out of the box and I really like the padding/support on the insole. Hope this helps. I'm super picky with shoes. A full size or half size down could both work. It just depends on the width of your foot. I plan on having these for many years. Love them.

I love these boots! Frye has done it again! I live in a hip little mountain town in California and the durability of the leather and the stylish nature of these boots do me right! I find these look perfect with skinny jeans and loose laces or even under a trouser jean.

I bought these boots before a two-week trip to Paris and was a little nervous since I didn't have time to break them in. I shouldn't have worried though, they worked out great! The shoes were comfortable right out of the box and I took my usual 7.5. (Feet are on the normal to wide side). I walked the entire city in these boots and had no issues. They look great with skinny jeans and dresses!

I am seriously in love with these shoes. They add the perfect height to make the boot a little more feminine without actually making you feel like you're wearing heels all day. I do feel like the boot is a bit long and narrow when it comes to sizing. The length I don't mind and for the narrow, I used a spray in shoe stretcher and wore it with thick socks one evening. Fixed! This is the spray I used: Kiwi SELECT Universal Shoe Stretch.

I don't know if this is typical or not, but I find that I can wear anything from a size 8 to a size 9, depending on the type of shoe: 8 for sandals, slip-ons, and heels; 8.5 for boots; 9 for sneakers. So I ordered an 8.5 and a 9 just to be sure, and the 8.5 fit perfectly! I also have sort of a narrow heel, so that could be a factor. The boots broke in beautifully after a few days and now I wear them all the time! Love them.

Love them. Nobody does boots like Frye. My feet screamed for joy the very first time I put them on and laced them up. My new shoes are like " old shoes" already part of me.

Great boots! I am a true size 10. On another site, I ordered the 9.5 because so many people said that they run 1/2 to a full size large. Well that may be true for the length but everywhere else felt way too tight. So after some thought, I returned those and ordered the size 10 from Zappos and they feel just right. Anyhoo, these are a great addition to my wardrobe. They fit my androgynous style perfectly.

Love them! After seeing them in a local store, I waited until they were on sale at Zappos. They have a great look that works across seasons -- I've been wearing them this summer with dresses. Very comfortable and fit true to size (though I have narrower feet). Only issue is they were a bit slippery on my first wear, before the soles got scuffed up.

These shoes are so great! Like my other Frye boots, they are beautiful and I had to order half a size smaller than my usualy size (10). They took a bit to break in and I would not recommend wearing them for too long when you first get them as they are a bit narrow at the toe and gave me blisters. But now they are perfect! I love the dark brown color.

Listen to all the reviews that say they run large! I usually wear a size 10 or a 9½ in shoes that run larger. My feet are narrow, so I was worried that the 9½ might still be too long, but I ordered them anyway. For reference, I wear a 10 in Frye Engineer boots and a 9½ in Frye Harness and Veronica boots. I definitely need a 9 in these! There is a lot of toe room and I would recommend ordering a full size down if your feet are at all narrow (these boots are fairly narrow overall and are very narrow in the toe) or half a size down if you have medium-width feet. Those with wide feet may want to order their usual size or find other boots (although I am sure the leather will stretch with wear, these boots will not be wide enough out of the box). I love the style and the heel height is perfect (I find a slight heel much more comfortable than no heel), so I will be exchanging them for a 9.

The boot was really long leaving a full inch of space from my big toe, but it didn't look overlong. I like the Frye fit being a bit more narrow than other brands. I believe the boot was a factory 2nd which fact was not disclosed. The tongue on the left boot has a noticeable indentation about two inches up from the insertion.

I love the shape and fit of this boot. I have a narrow long fit and this boot hugs my feet perfectly. They are super attractive on. Others mentioned the bottoms being slick, they are a little, but mostly they're just not a bad weather boot
