These shoes are truly beautiful, the leather and craftsmanship are wonderful. I am a 9½ and ordered my size, they fit right out of the box, are not too big or too small. There is little accommodation for high arches though, so I cannot wear them for long periods. I normally wear an orthotic insert in my shoes, which is not a possibility with these beauties. My only other unhappiness with them is the leather sole. The heel is wearing down quickly after only three outings. This is my first pair of leather soled shoes, so take my comment with a grain of salt. I just got a different pair of Frye boots resoled, I am guessing that these will need them sooner rather than later.

These are my favorite boots! I have them in Cognac and wish I could find something similar but a little different in black. I tried the Carson Lug in size 7 because the 7/12 is the size I have & while it fits it is a little long in the toe. The Carson Lug was much narrower :-(. Not sure, but maybe I'll end up getting the black Carson Lace Up too. I wore them on a trip to Mexico and they broke in so beautifully. They are my most comfortable boots. Love them.

All leather - excellent quality. Comfortable. Not as clunky looking as many other lace-up styles. I look forward to wearing them. I work on my feet (teacher) and have had no issues after a day's work.

These are absolutely wonderful boots. It felt like they were made for me. But I need a heartier sole, so I have to return them and try a different style.

Love these boots. Purchased them to wear on vacation to a much cooler climate than were I live. They did not fail - very comfortable to walk in and fashionable too.

Well, these are gorgeous boots. I bought them to wear with a uniform on the job. I ditched the job but not the boots. The only thing is....Leather Soles!! What is one supposed to do with those in this era of concrete and asphalt? Anyone know?

I received these boots a few days ago, and I am thrilled with everything about them. I've been looking for an ankle boot lace up for awhile and these are exactly what I wanted. I ordered a size 9M - my usual size - and they fit perfectly. They are beautifully made and immediately comfortable. I wore them all day without any discomfort. These boots are much more beautiful by far than the pictures show. It took me a long time to place an order because they look somewhat odd online. Believe me, they are gorgeous!

I really love these shoes. I did order a half size up since prior reviews indicated the shoes were narrow and I have a wider foot. The size was perfect. I wear thear shoes mainly with jeans.

I love these boots. I wear them with all style pants and long skirts. They are well made and are very roomy. Both the Carson Lace Up and Oxford are styled with an elongated rounded toe. I normally wear a 10 but had to go down half a size to 9.5 and they are still roomy enough to wear with lightweight socks. This boot is really lightweight but the broader chunkier heel has a little height so my feet feel stable and balanced when I wear them. The sweet smell of the leather reminds me of back in the day when all shoes were well made and manufactured in the USA!

These shoes are super cute! They have Just enough of a funky hipster vibe to them without being too trendy. I bought them in the antique washed cognac color which I love! It is an orange brownish color which I can wear with pretty much everything. These boots are great with skinny jeans. You can roll your jeans or just wear them normally. They are comfortable too! They started off comfortable but they are beginning to mold even more perfectly to my feet with each additional wear. I bought them in my regular size and they fit was perfect. I highly recommend these beautifully crafted super chill boots.

These are awesome boots, I wear between a 7½ and 8 in boots and ordered the 7½, they fit but the 8 would have been a better fit. They are a bit narrow, not too much of a problem for me since my feet are medium width, but I can only wear these with thin socks.

I LOVE, LOVE LOVE these boots! I wear them everyday, they're so comfortable and needed no breaking in! I highly recommend them! Wish I could buy them in every color they come in!

Very attractive boot. The laces make the width more adjustable. The sole could use a little more padding. I may try an insert.

These run small! I've had 4-5 pairs of Frye boots over the years and they always run 1/2 size big. I'm usually an 8.5 so I ordered these in 8 but they were WAY too tight. I returned them and got 8.5 and they're still little snug but I figure they'll stretch out so I'm keeping them. I really like the look and versatility--they work with leggings, skinny jeans, dresses, basically everything.

I originally bought these boots five years ago at a crazy sale price in a store, and they are finally now getting a bit too worn looking for me (they've been in wet salty snow many times and the leather is ugly, the actual shoe is holding up great) and are now my messy work boots. I have to say that as much as I have looked, I haven't found a better pair to replace them so even though it's the most I've ever spent on a shoe, I am going to order them again. I think the quality is really worth it, and I'll try my best not to get caught in wet weather with them too often.

I wasn't sure about these boots at first. They seemed stiff and the toes kind of curl up. I ordered a 10 for my 9 or 9-1/2 feet, because that's what I needed in the Jillian lace-up. But the 10 was way too long, and clownish as somebody said. I decided to give the 9-1/2 a try, and was amazed at how much better they looked. The width was a bit snug at first, but after a few hours around the house I realized these were definitely keepers. I ordered the cognac, and was sorry that it went on sale after I paid full price! The cognac is a tiny bit lighter in color -- yellower? -- than some other Frye shoes I've got also called cognac. Whatever color you choose, if you can, get these boots now. Don't hesitate, especially if they're still on sale.

Felt compelled to write even though there are lots of reviews. Yes, definitely size down. I normally am between a 9/9.5; bought a 9 and it's plenty big enough with a sock. What sets this boot apart is it fills a lot of fashion needs. A little metro, a little retro, a little prairie, and comfortable and walkable "to boot." Good support, materials. I got the dark brown, and like that too. Unobtrusive but stylish.

Incredibly comfortable boots. I have these in the "green" color, and was a bit apprehensive about what the color would be in real life, but needn't have worried: it's a gorgeous, muted green. As for sizing: I typically wear a 9 in Frye boots, and a 9 in these, as well (with a tiny bit of room to spare)--although my regular shoe size is a 9.5. I don't have narrow feet (more of the duck variety), and the width feels perfectly comfortable, while the heel is snugly in place. Super boots.

These are well made, they fit well and they are comfortable. I have a narrow heel and sometimes that's a problem, but not with these. Unfortunately they are too orange and too expensive not to be just the right color.

After reading 83 comments, they do run large. I'm usually a 6.5 and I actually gambled and bought a 6 because they ran out of stock of the 6.5 and luckily they fit perfectly.

Great boots. decent ankle support, wish they had a little more arch support, but you can size up if you want to wear inserts. Color was a little lighter than expected, but I actually like it better.

Gorgeous! I got the red -- really a wonderful, vivid color. I wear 10 1/2-11 but have dicey toes (longer second and third toes, now hammertoes -- yuck) so I got the 11 and also a 10 in another color just to see. 11 is perfect. As others have noted, the leather is very supple and molds easily to your foot. Yes, soles are slippery, way too slippery for this wet and often icy climate. I'll invest in rubber lugged soles from a cobbler who still will do them.

I just got these in the mail. I have been haunting these shoes, and Frye shoes for that matter, for years. Now that I have a full-time job I finally gave the plunge and bought the Frye Carson lace-up in Dark Brown. I ordered these on July 4th, and received them today July 10th, so I received my shoes within a week. Very prompt with free/standard shipping. The color is different than what I thought. On the picture it looks slightly reddish brown, but the shoe I got was a muddier brown, or duller brown, than the color shown. You are able to see slight red undertones under certain lighting. The shoe itself smells very strong of leather, which is soft and pliable. I had to unlace it and loosen it a bit to put the shoe on, but once I got it on, it felt very comfortable for the first time. I usually wear an 8 1/2, but reading a couple reviews it seems like it runs slightly large -- or I should say long -- so I got an 8 instead (also because the 8 1/2 wasn't available in this color). The width is perfect, and my feet are not narrow, more specifically the part of the foot before the toes start is wider which makes it uncomfortable wearing some high heels. However, it didn't feel tight or uncomfortable with the Carson lace-up, but it does hug your foot. Since it is leather it will also stretch a bit. The toe box is longer, and even going a half size down, it still leaves room at the end, which I'm okay with since I will wear these with thicker socks in the winter. Overall, I love these shoes and I will be keeping them despite the fact that they're the most expensive shoes I have ever bought in my life. I consider these an investment. The soles of these shoes are slick and walking around the house I almost slid and fell since the floor is wood. I will get these shoes soled because I don't want to die, and because I don't want to scuff it up. Hopefully they'll last longer this way.

Being such a big investment, I labored over whether or not to purchase these boots. Yes, I'm glad I did. Given their classic shape and color (dark brown), they are very versatile, and I expect to wear them for years to come. Fit-wise, there are a couple of things to look out for: They are suitably snug on me (me with normal sized feet), so I imagine a woman with wider feet may find these boots to be too tight across the instep. The insole was at first a little uncomfortable; it seemed like there was a too-steep drop between the heel and the rest of the footbed. Either the boot molded to my feet, or my feet to the boot, but after a few wears I no longer feel that steepness.
