I'm not a runner, but bought this shoe in hopes of getting out and running. I typically wear an 11.5 to 12 but from the reviews figured the 11.5 would be a good fit -- and it is, even with socks. I was working at a trade show and after the first day my feet were killing me (cursed Nikes!) so day 2 I wore my Trail Gloves ... and wow did it make a difference! While there is certainly less padding, my feet felt so much better. In fact, I'm back on Zappos to look at the Tough Glove for daily use! I also love the Merrell iPhone app which helps you get started with running barefoot, it eases you into the practice even if you've never run before. Love the shoe, would buy again for sure.

Possibly the most comfortable shoe I've ever warn. Definitely order as close to your actual foot size as possible--even a half size in the wrong direction will cause the heel and toe to uncomfortably misfit. No arch support at all, which is part of the point of a trail glove, so make sure you know what you're getting into. A bit more slippery than expected when surfaces are wet (for some reason).

Awesome shoe, I wear them as often as I can. No more back aches while running. The discription is true and accurate. Can't wait to buy my next pair.

Bought these specifically for my trip to the Costa Rican jungle for hiking. First of all Costa Rica is an adventurist dream. These shoes were/are spectacular! I used them for regular ole trail hiking and and then found some amazing rivers that these shoes allowed me to embrace fully. Explored from one waterfall to another completely down the ankle to knee deep waters. I thought I might run into some blisters once they started drying out. Not a single one. if you have never been in barefoot shoes before you should go through an acclimation process. Don't just put them on and go hiking because you will be extremely sore afterwards. They dry out fairly quickly, grip is excellent, and I highly recommend these bad boys.

First barefoot. Didn't experience any break-in issues or foot/leg fatigue. Only had 3 weeks, so can't comment on durability. So far, what was expected from Merrell.

I LOVE these shoes; so much that I have also purchased the brown leather version (tough glove) to use as an everyday shoe. May get a black leather pair for dressier use as well. I am in my mid-sixties and have never been a runner. It always felt awkward so I've just walked. These shoes make me want to run and when I do it is comfortable. They really do let me run almost as though I were barefoot. Now to build up endurance so I can do more of it -- (endurance didn't come with the shoes). The size is true for me, a 13M. A 13.5 would be a tad better but that is true of every shoe I buy, and no one makes them. I'm completely happy with my purchase, and Zappos service, and expect to be a return customer for these if they ever wear out.

Love these shoes. I am flat footed and have bad joints. These shoes, once you get used to running in them, feel great on my feet and for my body. I would recommend them to anyone looking to improve their running experience.

If you are a fan of minimalist footwear, this shoe is for you. It's fits snug over most of your foot but has a wide toe box giving you plenty of wiggle room.

Excellent for minimalist running. Feels a bit odd for walking. Make sure you educate yourself on minimalist running before you injure yourself training in this type of footwear.

Recently bought a pair of Trail Gloves for use during regular Army PT as my Vibram Bikilas are not authorized. These shoes are great thus far, although a half-size larger than I needed (when I have these on I have about a 2 centimeter gap in front of my big toes, which are my longest toes). However, the lacing system makes these really fit like gloves, so it is not an issue at all. Huge toebox. Almost no arch support unless you crank on the laces, but I wouldn't call that arch support. No insole on the inside. I wear a size 43 Bikila (no socks and I can stick a finger in the heel cup), size 11 Nike Free, size 10.5 New Balance, and size 10 Garmont T8. I ordered a size 10.5 Trail Glove and think I should've gotten a size 10. I like them better than my Nike Frees for road running, but they're no Bikilas.

Overall a great shoe and exactly what I wanted. I normally wear a 14EEE and the large toe box in these shoes gives me plenty of room. The sole of these shoes is a little thicker and less flexible than Vibram Five Fingers but this also works out great for trail running.

Minimalist shoe - so much more comfortable doing a forefoot strike than with "marshmallow" running shoes.

Great fit and supremely comfortable. I wear them at work, walking and standing, and have no back or leg pain at the end of the day. Enjoy these much more than my other barefoot shoes - definitely more comfortable too.

These are the most comfortable barefoot shoes that I have ever worn. My Vibram five fingers are heading to the back of the closet.

OMG, I got them yesterday, today I work-out for an hour and a half and I still want to go on. I do not feel these Merrell s on my feet, it s like I have no shoes on, yet I feel safe and with great support. Also true to size, bravo Merrell! And Thank you Zappos, fast and zippy service, I love you Zappos!

I should start by saying I have not run in my Merrell Barefoot Trail Gloves, at least not yet. I may one day. I am not an avid runner, more of a cyclist and occasional runner. An aside about a separate product: I wore Nike Frees for about five years until very recently. I did run extensively in my last pair (as I was overseas and away from my bicycles) and they were great. I mostly wore them for casual and work (in an office with fairly lax dress code enforcement) use. I would not shut up about those shoes. I would evangelize about Nike Frees to anyone who would listen. Over five years, I probably went through six or seven pairs, none of which I really wore out, just upgraded or changed styles. My last pair were quite worn when I gave them away to a guy overseas. I decided to try a change, so I ordered a pair of these online, sight unseen. Within about fifteen seconds of walking around my house in the Merrells, I knew my love affair with the Nike Free was over forever. This is the shoe I have been waiting for my whole life. I am way more excited about this shoe than any heterosexual male ought to be about any shoe, ever. But there you have it. The sole is a perfect combination of firmness and flexibility. It feels much more like walking "barefoot" than any other "minimalist" shoe I have ever tried. Yet the side of the sole curves in to provide a certain measure of arch support. I do have fairly high arches, but my feet have always been strong enough that I haven't obsessed about finding great arch support. Those who have avoided "minimalist" shoes because of the arch support issue may want to give this model a serious look. The liner is comfortable with or without socks. I usually go without -- almost always, in fact -- but the shoe has enough "give" that it's quite comfortable either way. The large toe box is a major component of the shoe's comfort, but it must be said that it makes the shoe look just a wee bit dorky. If you can live with that in the name of comfort, go for it. The only very slight drawback of this shoe is that it doesn't stretch the way my Frees did...I actually have to loosen the top few rows of laces to get in or out of them, then tighten them back by hand to tie them up. I could treat my Frees as if they were almost slippers -- I don't think I'd tied or untied them in over a year by the time I got rid of my last pair -- but those days are over. Again, small price to pay, but it should be noted. The online "professional" reviews (mostly running magazine sites and blogs) I consulted before picking these shoes were uniformly enthusiastic about them. They have exceeded the very high expectations created by those reviews. I am pleased to add my voice to the chorus of those who absolutely love these shoes.

I normally wear size 10. Tough Glove was right on size, with loose toe box. Trail glove runs small, so order up one size. I ordered 10.5. Shoes are new, but I love the style, fit and workmanship! Much better for Valgus toe and hammer toe then five fingers.

I have Vibram Five-Fingers. They are hard to put on, and are just too weird looking. I'm tired of both liabilities. These shoes have the same benefits and don't have the cumbersomeness or weirdness factors. I'm a huge fan of barefoot-ish footwear and this is the best I have, all in all. Buy them.

These would be perfect except for one thing - the mid part of the shoe is too narrow. I love the wide toe box, the thin yet rugged sole, and the overall look and build, but the shoe wraps your arch so tight (despite how you lace it) that it can be uncomfortable when wearing for a long time. To me, the point of a barefoot-style shoe is to allow your foot to move in an unrestricted, totally free way. And besides the mid-foot, these fit the bill.

I've been running barefoot for most of the year now, but winter has struck and I needed a way to run in the snow. Although I run barefoot, I still wear the traditional heel strike shoes, and I wanted to try a minimalist shoe. Features: Light-weight. Breathable. I personally found the sole of this shoe very stiff/tough, but this is my first minimalist pair so I cannot really compare. -Toe box is very square which may be a little difficult to tell without a top down view. The shoe fit snug when I tried it on with socks so I ran without socks. My longer toes found the interior a little abrasive and I think if I ran a +1 mi (only ran 400 m) there might of been a blister. Overall, I feel like I could grow into these shoes, the square toe box is a little annoying unless I can find out some way to stop the rubbing due to the excess room. I got the Ash color and the white is not as stark as depicted. :( This my first review so takes it easy on me. Have fun running.

Bought these for my husband normally wears a size 10. Tried size 10 but the arch was in the wrong spot. Tried 9.5 arch was in the right spot but cramped in the toes. Too bad, really wanted these shoes. Had to return both sizes.

These shoes would be 5 stars if not for the stink factor. After a couple months, they start to smell. I wash 'em, I use baby powder, I keep them dry--nothing stops the stink.

Merrell Barefoot Trail Glove I have to say that these shoes are the best kicks that I have ever owned. The most impressive feature about these shoes is the durability. I have tried my best to abuse them, but they still hold strong. I typically wear 14 but bought 13. They fit a little snug. The width is right on the money. Vibram soles is enough said. The only thing that can make these shoes better is a solid pair of serious socks. Because they breath well, sand and dirt can make it inside the shoe. Many times looking good means the sacrifice of not feeling good. These shoes are the exception.

These are great shoes! This is my first pair of minimalist and they have surpassed my expectations. Usually I wear a 10½ regular but after trying on a pair I decided on the 10 regular. I have flat and very muscular feet. Therefore the first thing I noticed when I put on the shoes was that there is a little support just behind the toe knuckles to aid with the arch. After wearing the shoes a couple times the support felt natural. Second the shoes felt like they had a lot of space for the toes. This is necessary for the kinds of movements you will be making in these shoes. I gave myself ¼ centimeter for my longest toe before it touched the end of the inside of the shoe. I made sure that the shoe fit while standing and not while sitting down. Third the heel cup was fitted and there was no space like you would need for a cowboy boot. I will be getting a pair of 10W model for these shoes because I want more coverage for the bottom of my flat feet but I will also be keeping the 10 regular for my sockless adventures. These are well made shoes with a durable Merrell upper and a great partnership with Vibram outsole. The sole of this shoe allows you to connect with the ground in a different way. You will feel the ground so make sure you ease into the barefoot movement!
