These shoes definitely fit the bill for a lightweight barefoot walk around / trail walking shoe. The lacing system is great, they breathe INCREDIBLY well, and they're a handsome shoe to boot. Unfortunately, they occasionally cause my right mid-foot to hurt. I don't know what it is. I don't experience this when walking barefoot or when wearing my Vibram Fivefingers. I've been trying a new gait so maybe that will change things up, but for now I am only wearing them casually.

I own another similar pair of Merrell shoes like this that fit just right. For some reason this pair fits a half size smaller in length. I use a 14 so it's as high as I can go. So if in doubt bump it up a half size.

Like many have mentioned before, these feel tight through the arches initially. However, before long they break in nicely and are not constrictive. I normally wear wide sizes. After nearly a year of moderate to heavy use the soles are wearing thin. Every other component has held up perfectly.

I was hoping to use these shoes for cross-training; I do a lot of short sprints, lateral cutting, plyometrics, and weightlifting. The shoe fits like a glove up to the forefoot, but the toe box is very large to leave the forefoot and toes free to move during a trail run. So the shoe is good for its intended purpose (I assume), but not suitable for my training as my foot slides around in the toe box.

I am not a fan of the fit, and had to try 3 different sizes before finding a pair that worked. I chalk it up to it being a "barefoot" design (it's my first) which doesn't fit the way regular sneakers do. The build quality is great, and I really like the style, but it's far from being a comfortable pair of shoes.

Bought these for my fiance, he really likes them. They rubbed a spot on the top of his foot raw, he says once he breaks them in or fixes the sharp spot they should be fine. He is not using those tiny socks that are available. He runs on rough terrain, dirt roads, hills, rocks. The toe area is wide, what they are supposed to be, but they look a little funny, thats why he gave style 3 stars.

For the most part this shoe functioned as advertised. Great for the gym and short barefoot style runs. My biggest concern is the footbed is a little narrow for something of this style. I have slightly wide feet, and if they were any wider they would have become seriously uncomfortable. I've continued to use without issue, but definitely keep in mind if you have wide feet.

Interesting results! I had some knee and hip pain that has gone away. Shoe is making me walk differently. Not hitting the ground with my heel, hitting it with more of the ball of the foot instead. Very light and snug on the foot. Vibram soles have great traction. Cons are: shoe is wearing out fast. 2 months treads are gone. Needs work on waterproofing.

Normally wear a 10.5, but take a 10 in these, so order a 1/2 size down. Very lightweight, very flexible, comfortably wide toebox. High quality construction, soft comfortable padding on the tongue and inside. My only issue is with the hard rubber toe. You can feel it on the inside, your toes scraping up against it, making it feel uncomfortable to wear barefoot. I might wear them around the house barefoot, but I wouldn't run in them barefoot. Will be wearing these with socks for the most part.

Love these shoes from Merrell. Also love my 5fingers but plan on using these when I need a break. The toe box is extra roomy and the shoe fits like a glove. If you're looking for a minimalist running shoe similar to 5fingers, pick this shoe up!

I've been using racing flats (Inov-8 F-lites) and converse for a couple of years. The Barefoot glove is my next step into minimalist shoes. I've done a few CrossFit workouts in them, yet have only done one run to date. I love the fit around the ankle, yet the wide toe-box is still taking me time to get used to. So far, I like them a lot and would recommend them. Also - they look much better, in my opinion, than 5 Fingers!

I've tried a few barefoot style shoes, so far I like these the best. The sole is a bit thicker than Feelmax or Vivo barefoot (you can't really feel rocks and such), but it is very flexible. This, like other Merrill shoes, works well with my wider-than-average feet.

Overall, these are a comfortable and really light pair of shoes. I subtracted one star for the rubber fading on me after one rinse with water to wash some of the dust off after hiking in them. They felt comfortable during the hike.

Great shoes for active pursuits. Crossfit, running and hiking all felt fantastic in these shoes. I am dinging these shoes a bit because they don't drain water very well, which I found very surprising considering their lightweight construction.

Felt a little awkward in the beginning but they broke in nicely. I don't have what I would consider a really wide foot but these shoes are definitely narrow in the middle of your foot. I would not recommend these for people with wide feet. Excellent barefoot shoe for everyday use.

This is an addendum to my previous review. I still really like these shoes. They are comfortable and fit the minimalist bill without question. The problem is in the durability of the sole. I expected to get a lot of running miles out of these, but I've already burned a hole clean through the sole at the heal with around 300 miles - mostly road. (By the way, I'm a forefoot runner and just brush the heel on that one side in my gait.) If they were cheaper I would just buy another pair.

I like these shoes a lot. I like the barefoot feel and like them better than the other brands that have individual toes. When wearing those, my toes felt stretched apart as if there were cotton balls between them. These feel more natural.
I bought them primarily for hiking and broke them in on Vermont's Mt. Mansfield. They provided for great traction and allowed me to feel the trail better than any boot or hiking shoe would.

These shoes are great for trails. However, I walk streets 30-90 minutes a day. These were my first minimal shoes and they seriously fixed my lower back issues from a weightlifting injury. The more I walked in these shoes the better. However, after my first pair I moved to an area where it was all street to be walked. I noticed that I was quickly burning actual holes in the heels. Like my socks were even holing up. Actual holes. So I would not recommend these shoes for streets. I went through four pairs. My last pair made it 1½ months before heel holes. Now I am trying the Road Glove 2.

I'm only rating these shoes a three overall, but only because I have very high arches as well as wide feet. I could barely get a 12 on, which worked great in the Road Glove. Perfectly, in fact. They were tight on my upper foot and the sides of my feet. I tried a 13, same issues, just a little more room in the toe box. Something about the actual quality of the shoe felt less than the Road Glove as well. Try some on for yourself. If you have got flat, narrow feet, these might be great. They are super lightweight and breathable.

I love these shoes but they will never work for me for an extended. Others have noted the excellent arch support from the stiff sole, but that stiff sole is not wide enough at the ball of my foot. The sole of the shoe rubs on the inside of my arch with each step. I wish Merrell made these in wide sizes.

People say this has a wide toe box, but that's not true unless you would normally wear a medium width shoe. Still felt like too much padding for me.

I bought these to wear to work on casual days, but I have run in them a couple of times, too. I use them as warm up shoes for my track repeat days; I do the repeats barefoot, but on grass at least for now. I have also done a couple of tempo runs on dirt/gravel. I think these fit a little weirdly (tight) in the mid foot. I have a pair of Vivobarefoot RAs, which I find to be way more comfortable. My next pair of minimalist running shoes will probably be Vivobarefoot. I just think they feel more natural on the feet. These may become my hiking/backpacking shoes as they have excellent traction and quite a bit of protection. Overall these are decent shoes, but they are a little weird fitting.

These were easily the narrowest shoes I have ever tried to wear. I bought the 12D and couldn't even get my foot into them even though I'm right between an 11 1/2 and a 12D normally.
A shame because they look nice and seem like they'd be a great shoe otherwise.

I've had these shoes for quite a while now and am truly disappointed that for a barefoot shoe they would use a hard plastic strap at the back of the shoe. That strap rubs into my achilles tendon causing at hot spot which causes the skin to peel and eventually a painful cut. The only way I can wear these shoes is if I wear socks high enough to protect the back of my foot or wear a bandage wear the hot spot appears. I will not buy another pair in this model.

This is a minimalist trail shoe. It worked well for my wide toes, even in a regular width. Gives a real barefoot feel like I wanted. Don't expect anything but minimal support from these. I wanted this shoe for a Spartan Beast competition (trail running, obstacles, water) and was very disappointed. This shoe had poor traction on wet trail and terrible traction on moist/wet rock. I think perhaps it was designed for dirt track/dirt road running, not true trail running. In Vermont a trail is much more rugged than a packed dirt pathway through the woods, so this ultimately was not the right shoe for me. However for a multipurpose barefoot dirt road or pavement experience this shoe world be perfect.
