This is a really nice hiking boot. I tried a range of options first as I have weird feet. This one is flexible yet provides nice support for climbing on rocky terrain. I like the color combo and the shoe cleans up easily after getting dirty.

My 17-year-old daughter and I needed hiking boots (luckily we both wear size 8, medium width), so we ordered 6 pairs to try on and choose from...though these Ahnu Montara boots are going back to Zappos, they ended up as the #2 choice for both of us (a very hard choice on her part). Others were the Merrell Siren Waterproof Mid-Leather, Caterpillar Argon Hi, Merrell Whiteout 8 Waterproof, Keen Ketchum, and Ariat Terrain 8. She chose the Merrell Siren Waterproof Mid-Leather, and I chose the Ariat Terrain 8s (they have more arch support than these). The Ahnu Montaras were by far the most comfortable higher-topped style we tried. My daughter and I found these boots comfortable and appealing - we simply both decided we preferred a lower-top style.

Based on previous reviews, I ordered a 7.5 and I usually wear a 7. I could have gotten away with a 7, but since the color I got on sale is out of stock, I will live with the slightly bigger boot. The base around the shoe is very sturdy and secure, I like that in a hiking boot. As I hike pretty steep hills, with loose gravel at times. Around the ankle is a little stiffer than I had expected, but that is fine, nothing wrong with securing my ankles, feels like it will loosen up over time. I didn't need or want to get a waterproof boot. The moisture wicking materials inside the boot work great. So I guess these will double as an every day boot on rainy days. People that didn't select excellent arch support, forgot to click on the tab. These have a high arch, that I don't need, and usually avoid. It's high and very noticeable. It doesn't bother me, but it's definitely and excellent arch support.

These boots are super comfortable and very lightweight. No break in period required! Wore them motorcycle riding in the rain all day...feet got a little cold, but stayed dry! Love them!

These are great boots. I have two pairs - one purple (for fun and hiking) one black (for work). I might even order the smoke brown as well. These boots are very comfortable for all day wear but would be a tad more comfortable for rough terrain if more padding in the footbed. An insole might take care of that. I just have not gotten around to trying one. Overall, I love them.

I bought these boots somewhere else, but have been wearing them almost every day for the last 4 months in the cold, wet Seattle winter, and I think they're fantastic. Waterproofness and warmth were my two main concerns when looking for a winter boot that I could walk significant distances in daily and ride my bicycle with, and these have kept me dry and toasty. I wear "barefoot" shoes the rest of the year, so it took a little while to get used to the bulk of these, but they are comfortable and don't force my ankle into weird positions. Would recommend. Note: Zappos lists these as blue, but they're way more purple. After 4 months of regular wear without any kind of extra treatment, mine appear to be kind of a dusky eggplant sort of color. I like it.

I wore these hiking right out of the box - no time to break them in, but I didn't need to. Incredibly comfortable, great support. I went a half size up and it fit perfectly

This is by far my favorite hiking boot ever! From the first moment I tried it on, it's been super comfortable and no breaking in required. It's lightweight with a roll-forward design that offers a bit of propulsion. I love the styling and best of all, it's waterproof.

Incredibly lightweight but astoundingly supportive. These are a dream...so light, but providing much-needed support for hiking. After only 30 minutes I completely forgot I was breaking them in! I wear 6-1/2 to 7 US, and usually a 38 in European sizing, and this felt just perfect in size 7/38. I couldn't resist the gray with lime green accents -- perhaps a bit more subtle, but so attractive. I LOVE these! I will definitely put Ahnu on my 'favorites' list for footwear in the future.

I love these boots! First time that I wore them was a two hour walk in a cold, steady rain. They were incredibly comfortable and supportive. And my feet were completely dry. They are sturdy, but much more flexible than regular hiking boots. And the style is great. I highly recommend them.

Love these boots. I hike rough areas with lots of rocks and the support is amazing. I ordered 1/2 size larger for hiking socks and worked great.

After reading other reviews I ordered a half larger than what I wear and they fit perfectly. They felt great right out of the box. My orthotics fit right in the boot with no problem. This is my first pair of Ahnu boots but certainly won't be my last pair. I have had several compliments on the red color and style of these boots. The leather around the ankles are soft and flexible which gives you support without hurting or needing breaking in time. They are so comfortable and my feet have stayed warm during these cold days in Ohio. These are great boots!

I can't say how much I love these boots! They needed no break-in period at all. They felt comfortable from the moment I put them on. They are so lightweight they feel like sneakers. I ordered the Purple and get so many compliments on them. I can't wait to order another color!

I just purchased these boots and have hiked twice in them. I returned the first pair and bought a half size bigger. The larger size fits perfectly. The boots are extremely light and very comfortable. The tread is secure enough in light snow.

I got these after I bought my first pair of Uggs (thought no other boots could be as comfortable), but I was wrong. I wear these at work, and I work at a power plant, walking on grating and up and down stairs all day in all kinds of wet and dirty conditions. They are tough and keep your feet dry and are very easy to clean. SUPER light and flexible, yet extremely sturdy. They are much better boots than I expected, very happy customer!

These boots are amazing, very light, comfortable, waterproof, and they offer great support. I can not do without them. They feel true to size and they look great, I highly recommend!

Chose these out of several pairs I ordered because they instantly felt comfortable. They are very light and therefore easy to walk in, climb, etc. The arch support is excellent. I wore these in the house to try out as I un-decorated my home after Christmas. As hard as this was, my feet never tired! And they are nice looking too! Love my new hiking boots!

I live in southern Florida where I missed my days and years of California living in my favorite pairs of hiking boots. I thought it was too hot here for the boots but I could not pass these up - and I am glad. I actually wore them with no socks at all and was comfortable (although I prefer socks). I bought half a size larger and they fit great - a comfortable roomy, but a half size smaller would have been too tight I think. The purple is great (and I am not a purple lover). I am so happy that I bought them.

Bought these for my wife who was looking for a comfortable winter/waterproof boot. She loves them. Says they are extremely comfortable, warm, and waterproof for upstate NY snow season. They also work well with her orthotic inserts. I highly recommend. Worth every penny.

These boots rock! They are lightweight with good arch support. I do recommend ordering 1/2 size larger. I think they do run a little short. They are very stylish for a hiker and make your foot look smaller and seem very well made.

I love this boots! There are comfortable, lightweight and very stylish. The first time I used to do hiking for more than six hours and I didn't have any blister. I live in UK and every time I go hiking I received compliments for my boots!

Love these boots! Great arch support and comfortable. I have not used them to hike, but for everyday use - very nice, no rubbing on the heel.

These boots are fantastic, very light. Confident with rocks and wet leaves. Use your fav liner or inserts. My feet are quite comfy in there.

It is with profound sadness that I decided to return these boots today. I loved them, they are so cute! But when I tried them on, I remember thinking, these are a little snug. I ordered them a half size larger which was good. (I marked "felt half size smaller" for the benefit of people who will try to order in their regular size.) But I am getting a stupid bunion on my right foot that I now have to accommodate so I had to send them back. I usually am a perfect size 10, but I have found with some winter boots and hikers I need a 10-1/2. Since these fit perfectly for length, everyone was right about ordering a half size larger. Congratulations, everyone! For people who have normal feet I think they will love these! Really cute and very well made! Sigh. I ordered some roomier Keen's to replace them. They are also cute.

Having very flat feet, these shoes solve a major problem. I can walk all day without any pain. This is my second pair of Montaras.
