It's my feet, not the shoe - I bought the solar in both black and brown so I would have comfy work shoes. The shoes are comfy, and the "D" width is generous enough to accomdate lofty socks. The shoes seem to run a little long -- there's extra space by my toes. The toes on both pairs of shoes got scuffed the first day I wore them -- but I guess that it part of their charm. When I walk for a long time in them, the outer edges of my feet start to ache (by my small toes). I think this has something to do with my feet, so I'm not blaming it on the shoes. They're expensive shoes, but well worth it. You can even run in them for a stretch if you have to.

Improved my walking - My doctor recommended that I try Earth shoes because of my complaints about Achilles pain; I have been very pleased with the improvement in abiltiy to walk and to balance. I had no trouble adjusting to the difference in the "negative heel technology" because the shoes help so much. I highly recommend them; however, I don't like the appearance as much.

Earth shoes with and without orthotics - Think the look is great. Very cute "Dorothy" shoes as my husband calls them. I had read someone else’s review that they didn't have to wear their orthotics with these. But, I don't find that. Also, my right toe hits the end, but that could be my foot since the arch has fallen. I would try a 9 1/2 next time--especially when wearing a thick sock.
I'd also recommend:
try other earth shoes. wish i could recomend or hear of shoes that work great with orthotics.

I love these shoes - I just recently discovered Earth shoes through Yoga Journal. I purchased two pairs in a half size smaller than normal, per someone's recomendation. Wrong, I am a true 9.5 and the 9.5 fits like a glove. Luckily Zappos has fabulous return policy. It took about two days to get used to the unique fit of the shoe. But once my body udjusted I fell in love. I have since purchased two other pairs (vision, cassandra)love them too. I bought the Solar in Camel twister, love the color it goes with everything, but the leather does not wear very well (the reason for my 4 instead of 5 stars)the toe area has become weathered looking from my small children occasionally stepping on my feet. Since it is a casual shoe that I love wearing with jeans I do not really care. Aside from that, a "perfect" shoe.

Unusual sole design is comfortable - I was intrigued by this shoe because I read about its "heel down" positioning which is supposed to be good for your posture. My first reaction to the heel down aspect was that it felt awkward, but I quickly adjusted to it. It reminds me a little bit of cycling shoes, with heel down and toe up. The inside of the shoe is molded to fit your foot quite comfortably; it accommodated my normal arches well. I have bunions, and these shoes are wide enough to accommodate this too. I bought these in the summer and tried to wear them without socks. This was not the most comfortable. Now that it's Fall, I'm wearing them with thin socks and they are more comfortable. Mine are black. I must say the red shoes are a gorgeous shade of red-- I actually ordered all 4 colors because I thought I might keep multiple pairs. In the end I stuck with the responsible and serviceable black, and decided to wait to see if they were as comfortable as I hoped. At this point I say they're OK, more comfortable than your average shoe, but I'm going to try some of Indigo by Clarks instead.

After the first day of wearing Earth shoes, my knees were a little sore. However, that was only for one day- so it takes about a day of full wear to get used to them. Comfort-wise, I love them. They really do help with lower back pain. The look is a little bit odd because they tend to curl up on the toes. Overall, I would buy more Earth shoes and recommend them.

One problem with this shoe: you can't wear it without socks. Your foot will stick to the leather inside and make a suction noise every time you step. What I'm trying to say here is, if you wear this without socks, you will be making a constant farting sound when you walk. Not pleasant. I plan on getting some insoles for mine so my feet won't stick anymore. But I have yet to wear these because of this problem.

Takes a while to get used to - This is a cute shoe, but the square toe makes it look a little bigger than it actually is. It took me a little while to get used to the shift in posture while walking. The time I wore it for an extended period and did a lot of walking the balls of my feet were really sore. Now I feel like I am getting used to the way they feel. There are two things that bother me: the exposed velcro bit of the strap does catch on everything and ruins it (pants, skirts, and pantyhose), and when worn without stockings this shoe stains your feet (as a lot of other leather shoes do, by the way).

Good but not for lots and lots of walking - I bought these shoes a few months ago and wore them walking all over Europe. I've traveled in the past and worn Birkenstocks but I felt that Earth shoes were comfortable, they had passed the on-my-feet-all-day test and so I gave these a try on this trip instead. Unfortunately they didn't make the grade for lots of walking lots of days in a row. My feet were killing me by the end of the trip and that's never happened to me with my birkenstocks. That said, these are really cute shoes and they are fine to wear on and off if you work where you stand on your feet a lot -- I just wouldn't suggest everyday with lots of walking.

I have only worn them a couple of times since I received them, however they are very comfortable. I would say they are a different fit and unless you try them on, it is hard to understand. They make my legs and back feel good though. Since I am a nurse I may order some more that are meant for work.

These shoes are super cute - lots of compliments. However, the back heel goes down instead of up (it's supposed to feel like you are walking on the beach) so it kind of makes your legs feel funny at first. Like you are walking unsteadily, but you get over it.

Red Shoes - I was very excited to try Earth shoes after reading many reviews. The shoes made my feet hurt the first 2 days (breaking them in) and now 3 weeks later they feel great. I do wish the straps were longer but that is the only bad thing.

The first pair of this shoe was purchased from a retail store in my city. I liked the shoe enough to return to the shop and order another pair. That pair wasn't acceptable because the strap wasn't long enough--not enough of the Velcro surfaces touched. I ordered a pair from Zappos and they're up to snuff. Now, the only issue I have is the snagging of my stockings on the exposed Velcro. I think the shoe designer needs to go back to the drawing board. In the meantime, I look forward to the day when this shoe is available in navy blue.

I was really disappointed with how quickly these shoes fell apart. They were insanely comfortable but the soles started ripping apart after two months.

these are ok. i definitely feel a difference vs my regular flats, but i do wish they were softer on the inside. i was expecting more coziness. i'm 33 weeks pregnant and need all the help I can get with alignment. these feel better than my non comfort shoes, but i'm still figuring out how to walk in them. i'm usually a 9 but bought a 9.5 since that's all they had available... fits perfectly.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE EARTH KALSO SHOES!!! This particular style seems to run a bit large. I purchased a size 9, and want a size 8.5, but sadly Zappos doesn't have one. I keep looking, but no luck.

They fit well and are comfortable, but the shininess rubs off pretty much instantly and then there's nothing you can do about it. I've worn them maybe a half dozen times and they look like they're 3 years old. This was my experience with a pair of the same shoes in red (though those could at least be polished). Pretty disappointed.

Great shoe and was disappointed that they didn't work out. The shoes hit weird on my big toe and the design was just not comfortable for my problem feet. Zappos is by far heads above any Internet company that provides a variety of items. Thank you for your excellent service.

The shoe was comfortable and the angle helped my plantar fasciitis, but the velcro on the strap was poorly applied. Either I was forced to wear stockings and the velcro caught on it constantly, or the sharp edges of the velcro scraped my foot. Too bad. May look at other options.

These shoes are really comfortable and I never want to wear anything else. But I'm not buying them again and the problem is the strap, which is velcro, and a) ruins any socks you wear with these shoes and b) wears out really quickly. I've actually had the velcro replaced twice, the shoes are just now starting to wear out, after a little more than two years of near-daily wear, but the straps are just worthless. Oh, and they're kind of ugly, but you don't wear Earth Shoes for their fashionibility, so that's ok.

I had high expectations for these shoes, given the stellar reviews here. Unfortunately, they were too wide for me and made my feet look enormous. My feet are on the wider side of medium, but I have a very narrow heel. I rarely have problems with shoes being too wide.

I ordered the Earth Solar in both 8.5 medium and 8.5 wide concurrently. There was no difference in the width, the I could discern! The strap at the ankle was narrow, stiff and did not add to the fit of the shoe.

I am sad to say that I am so disappointed with this shoe. I have had them for over a year, but still have not grown to love, or even really like them. As I wear a size 11, I feel that the style looks very floppy and clownish on my foot. I only feel comfortable wearing them with wide legged pants. A skirt? Never! Also, the strap cuts into my ankle a bit, and the back of the shoe cuts into the back of my foot. I do like the material. It is very leather-like and my feet do not sweat a lot in these shoes. However, my feet and legs do actually get pretty tired after about 8 hours. I have another pair of Earth shoes that I wore for work as a nurse, and they were great and I felt great after a long shift, but these just don't cut it for me. I love Mary Jane's, but these are definitely not the MJs for me. I'm now going to try to sell them on Ebay.

This was not as wide as I expected. After being on my feet all day I could barely get my foot in the shoe. Also the strap is a bit short and was almost off the velcro.

I wish I could have kept this shoe. Cute and I liked the "Earth" angle. However, this shoe is somewhat flat in depth and would not work with a high instep or thick foot. Will try another version of the Earth shoe.
