I'm a funeral director by trade and I always need to look my best. Nearly 4 years ago when I changed places of work most of my new co-workers had at least 1 pair of Allen Edmonds. I was determined to buy a pair. It took almost three years to do so but I have loved my Fifth Avenue Cap-toe Oxfords. I only wear them once or twice per week so I am still breaking them in - they do take a little to break-in but once they are I'll be golden.

Got these in burnished brown. They are a tried and true staple--a little less exciting than other styles, but they are a very versatile staple in my wardrobe.

I got the black version and wore them to an awards banquet. They fit right in at a fairly formal event and still have a little bit of attitude with the brouging on the cap toe. I plan to wear them to my sister's wedding and any other event nice enough to warrant these shoes.

I have several Allen Edmond shoes and have standardized on them. I would have been more effusive in my ratings had one shoe not arrived with slight blemishes. I was able to cover some with waxing. One I couldn't but it will probably be covered over by pant legs. In the future I will probably not buy shoes mail order.

The shoe shine process on this shoe was very bad. I have multiple pairs of Edmonds and this was by far the worst. It looks like someone was shining a shoe for the first time and this was a their test pair. The dark lines from too much polish in one spot was just not up to Edmonds standard and I am actually surprised these passed being able to be shipped out. I did not want to send them back because it is just the polish there are no defects on the shoes but I really thing you should inspect better before you send out a shoe like this.

While the shoes are still one of the best available the quality and workmanship are not what they used to be. I really like the red chili color but these haves turned out to be more brown than red.

I am most happy with the fit of this shoe, but a few operations showing lack of attention to detail need to be pointed out. First is the inside chamfer on heal to prevent catching on the end of our pant leg. Both shoes show little to no clean well defined chamfer. The operation appears to have been rushed and should have been corrected by a quality inspector. Second is a distinct notch in the sole near the heals on both shoes that could have been blended flush for better appearance.

Like many other men, a captoe on the 5-65 last was my first AE shoe. While some opt for the Park Ave, I think the Fifth Ave looks just as handsome with a little bit of interesting detail. They were painful to wear initially--actual blisters formed when I took the shoes to Seattle for a three-day convention. With the benefit of hindsight, I probably would not have purchased this shoe and would have gone for a wider last (and I got this in EEE). But now it fits acceptably well and, although I own several pairs of AE, this is really my favorite looking shoe. I love wearing these with casual clothes as well, since even a v-neck and jeans look better with a pair of dark brown Fifth Aves. (Perhaps this is an LA thing..)

I picked these up on a recent trip to New York. At first, there was some discomfort. The stitching for the cap on the right shoe caused a large blister after a full days wear, full of walking to and from clients. This has since subsided. The main complaint, however, is that after my very first wear, the inside heel of the left shoe "buckled" and now is indented inwards, causing a funny look for me when I glance down at my feet. While this cannot be felt while wearing them, it does cause me to feel trepidation while wearing these around others. Lastly, for those with wider feet, like myself, I definitely recommend trying these on in a store before purchase, as it may take you some time to find the right balance of length and width to ensure the laces tie properly. Overall, good shoe that pairs well with just about anything in a man's wardrobe.

I purchased the (Fifth Avenue) last year in size (8.5 E) in (Walnut Calf) since i bought the (Park Avenue) in size (9D) many years ago and is much longer and is too tight for my foot, they are build on the same last (5) still is too tight on my foot i believe with time my foot will break through to attain comfort fit but am not finding it easy after few hours of wear.I suggest that you build all your shoes with narrow last on (EE WIDTH)

I take an 11.5D in pretty much every AE shoe. However, I recently bought a pair of Fifth Aves and for some reason they seem narrow-especially in the toe box. They are pretty painful right now, but I am going to have them stretched, so hopefully this will help. I should have returned them for an 'E' but I was hoping that they were just stiff.

Overall a good shoe but make sure you read how to take care of them I didn't buy shoe trees right away and Ended up with a crease in the toebox on that one of the shoes. However they fit so well and we're so comfortable that I have since ordered another pair shoes and the customer service is hands-down the best I have ever seen.

This is a good quality shoe with a classic look. If you're looking for somewhere to start your dress shoe collection, this is a good place.

great shoe, but does scuff easily. purchased the burnished and love the comfort and look, but began to scuff, deeply, very quickly. on the toe even small chunks were taken out showing raw lighter leather underneath. overall great shoe, but was a bit disappointed that happened so quickly and easily.

The shoes fit great when I first got them. My opinion remained the same after the first day of use. After the second day, however, I could not wait to take them off. It felt as if the vamp was digging into my toes. At first, the problem was only with one shoe. I conditioned the vamp and the leather sole in hopes to soften the leather and have a better "flex" as the shoes were quite stiff when I first got them. Maybe I received a bad pair. I had really high hopes for these shoes as I had only heard praise of the brand and they fit my insoles perfectly (something I can't say of most dress shoes).

Great AE shoe. Should be a staple in a beginners closet. Runs very long and not as narrow as expected. I am a size 12 in running and all athletic shoes. I obviously ordered down to a 11.5, as it is a dress shoe, and it was still at least a half size too large. I probably could have gone 10.5 and been fine. Lastly, regular polishing keeps them looking like Day 1. There are never issues with returning to make the fit perfect. AE staff and customer support is fantastic. Overall, you will be pleased with the shoe.

Allen-Emonds cost more but provide excellent value, particularly in the Northeast where e soles must withstand road salt and harsh winters. My last pair lasted many years.

The design and style are outstanding but they are hard to put on due to the heel. The heel seems to arch forward not allowing my feet to slip into the shoes. I have to use a shoe horn. For a size E, they seem a little narrow.
I'd also recommend:
I only buy Allen-Edmonds.

I own strands. I recently went to a AE store in the chicago area while on vacation. Got great help. Bought chocolate brown colored fifth avenues. They were the same fit as my strands. Love them. Wore them out that night. The next day I look down at my beautiful shoes. Guess what? The band that makes the cap is about 1/4 of an inch further back on one shoe compared to the other! I cannot believe it. When one looks at the shoes, the caps dont match up - the band is lower. I purchased these while on vacation, have the receipt from an AE store. I was shocked that the quality control passed this defect. I love the shoes, but they are not right! The fit is perfect. But the cap is misaligned on one shoe by a large margin when compared to the other. I am disappointed. I can't bear to wear them since they dont match up. I love AE shoes. I would advise you to inspect both shoes when you buy. I only tried on the one, esp since the strands in the same size fit. Little did I know that the shoes are not the same. I love my strands at least.

I own this shoe in black custom calf. I wear it to court and in other fairly formal business and professional settings. It is a good workhorse of a shoe, though I wish the heel had a narrower welt and that the leather was of a slightly higher grade. (It's not bad, but the black custom calf seems a step down from the calf Allen Edmonds uses for other colors.).

The Fifth Avenue was my first Allen Edmonds shoe. I've been wearing these shoes regularly for about a year now, and have been very pleased with my purchase. While they are a little stiff to begin with, once you break them in, they are very comfortable. A few comments on the construction of the shoe: the leather is luxurious (smells great straight out of the box as well!) and while the shoe has a solid feel, it is also quite light (especially compared to other formal shoes I've worn). The sole and heel are both robust and have stood up well (I do a lot of city walking). This is a classic dress shoe and the perfing detail on the cap toe makes it stand out (vs. a Park Ave, for instance). Some will complain that the cap is a tad small (and it is certainly smaller than on other AE models, e.g. Strand) but I think it's the right size for a formal dress shoe. Since I use these shoes exclusively for business formal, I got a pair in black. The other colors look good as well, but to me, black Fifth Aves just look right. These shoes have become more and more comfortable over time and look as good now as the day I bought them. I recommend getting taps for those who tend to wear out the outers of their heels. Of course, with the recrafting service, you can expect a pair of AE shoes to last many, many years. Note that in my experience, the 5 last runs a little longer and narrower than you'd probably expect--I normally wear 11s, but will probably get 10.5/10 for my next AE pair.

great shoe, comfortable, fit well similar to park ave, however after two months had to exchange them as the sole separated on them. Never had that with a pair of allen edmonds before. Not sure why, also, i have several pairs which I rotate so they were not abused at all. disappointed but working on my second pair as i really like the look
