not as comfortable on my foot as I would have expected

These shoes are comfortable right out of the box and only get better with wear. After reading the reviews I decided to order the wider version and the fit is great.

Beautiful shoes, especially in Walnut. Had to order a half size smaller and a slightly wider width, as these shoes are made with the "65 last" which run long and narrow.

These shoes are excellent. I tried to buy cheaper versions of the same style but the quality trade off was too disappointing. These hand made babies are the real deal and worth every penny!

Excellent shoe, fits well, very comfortable after a full day at work. I will buy more Allen-Edmonds shoes.

Superb fit right out of the box. The color is very much like the photo depicted on the site these are great shoes and I'm not sure what took me so long to get them!

These shoes fit true to size. I thought with their weight, they would feel slightly uncomfortable, but they feel great and supportive. Zappos is extremely easy to use.

This is a well made shoe and I now like this color with my blue and grey suits.Never wear a shoe more than once a week and expect them to last forever. This one will.Of course polish and shoe trees are my part of the bargain.Takes a few times for the shoe to fit my feet and then I'm one happy camper (but not an unpleasant experience for the break-in).If you think you might like them for 15 or 20 years, get some.

This is a great shoe! Till just recently, I have only bought the cheaper types of dress shoes that you find in a department store. You know, the ones with a sloppy not quite right fit? These shoes fit my foot absolutely perfectly! I normally wear size 8, and the size 8 fit to a tee. It is possible that as other reviewers have noted that they run narrow? Well, for me the narrowness must be spot on. I had my foot measured recently by a professional, and he told me I needed normal width shoes, so take that into consideration. I tend to be a bit narrow on the heal and wider at the ball though. He also said that people's feet are shaped so uniquely that even taking standard length and width into account you can't get all shoes to fit all people even based on numbers alone. You have to try them on. Anyway, these are like a second protective skin over my foot and I have never had a more comfortable pair of dress shoes! They are a bit stiff at first, but I never got soar spots wearing them. Also, with the leather sole, take care in slippery weather. And when you walk? People will hear you coming, and I suspect they will know you have a great pair of Allen Edmond's on. Do not skimp on going without a shoe tree. I have the Allen Edmond adjustable types and they seem to work great. I liked this shoe and style so much, I bought all three color varieties of the McAllister. :) I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine! Oh, and one word about Zappos. It is a really great company with supper customer service. I wasn't sure how this shoe would really run on length, so I got 8 and 8.5. Zappos took the 8.5 back with no problems after I made sure of the size I needed. The shoes were always sent quickly too! Thanks Zappos!

This pair of wingtips are probably the only wingtips you will ever need. Yes, I have tried other brands such as C&J, John Lobb, etc. but nothing really beats McAllister from AE in terms of price and value.

Got them for my boyfriend and he adores them - they fit like a glove - no need to break them in and the leather and craftsmanship are great. Love the brand and will get more!

Great looking and great fitting shoe, right out of the box. Very classy, I am very pleased with these, and will be purchasing another pair in black.

I am writing this review to pay tribute to a shoe that has provided real reliability and great looks. I bought the Allan Edmonds McAllisters for my college interviews in 1984 and am still wearing these shoes that have held up all these years and still look good. They are almost thirty years old, and have gone through 2 re-soles (getting ready for a third), monthly light polishing, and consistent shoe tree storage. My wife keeps nagging me to replace them with a new pair of the same, but they are so comfortable I am really at odds with saying good-bye to these old friends. For those looking for a timeless well made shoe, this is it!

These shoes are just as beautiful as they are in the pictures. Took some time to find the right size, but once I found the sizing guide on the Allen Edmonds site, it was easy. Very comfortable shoes: some of the best I've ever worn. Quality is great as well.

Very narrow shoe! I would wear a TRIPLE E (and half size smaller) in this shoe even though I normally wear a D width. The store at the mall said Edmunds were made on a 'last'/mold for long narrow feet. These shoes are shaped like torpedoes in person. I bought Bruno Magli and they look AWESOME in my true size.

Allen-Edmonds are the best made shoes on the planet. I have 5 pairs of AE and some are over 10 years old. AE offers a refurbishing service and for very little money will put new soles on and send back and they look like new.

After owning these shoes for almost 2 years and wearing them 2-3 times a week, I can recommend this shoe without hesitation. They basically look like new, aside from some slight darkening of the leather which makes these look even more stylish. Don't expect a cushy footbed; these shoes are built the old fashioned way (which is part of what gives them such great durability). This is probably why you'll see mixed reviews about arch support. The shoe is actually quite comfortable though, as the cork sole will mold to your foot with repeated wear. Be prepared to replace the heel many times over, as there's no reason for these shoes not to last forever if you use cedar shoe trees, polish and/or condition them once every two months, and avoid wearing them two days in a row. Also be prepared for compliments!

I'll make this short and sweet. Great looking shoe. Perfect fit (if you don't measure your foot occasionally in a shoe store with a Brannock Device, don't blame he shoemaker). Superb quality leather and craftsmanship. And, on top of it all, American made at a very fair price. How can one go wrong. On top of all this, after you've worn the daylights out of them, you can send them to the AE factory for a complete rebuild and they come back looking like new for a fraction of the original cost. It's great to be able to enjoy a top quality product made in the USA and not Europe or Asia. I'd recommend this shoe to anyone.

Read the reviews first off and they really helped me gauge what size to buy. On AE shoe chart I am a 14 1/2 B width. I ordered 14 D and the shoe fits so well. The most comfortable new shoe I have ever worn. My staff could not stop talking about how attractive and professional the shoe looked.

I own several pairs of A&E shoes...two of these...one in black and one in cordovan. They don't require break-in, look great and are very comfortable. They can be re-crafted and should last forever.

These shoes are beautiful in tan and very well made. They do need a short time to break in, but after that they are very comfortable to wear. I think Allen-Edmonds craftsmanship is superior to that of Adam Derricks. The only issue I had is that I had to order the E size. Allen-edmonds has a very useful sizing tool that you should use if this is your first pair. For reference, I wear a 7 in Bruno Magli, a 7.5 in cole haan, and a 7E in AE.
