I loved the look of the Shale Joan of Arctic... just not on me. I am very petite (size 0, 5'2) with super skinny legs. They just looked too big and clunky. They were also Very heavy, and my legs started feeling fatigued just wearing them around the house for a bit. It would have worn me out to clomp around in them for very long. I think for a taller lady with more to her legs, they would be fabulous. Just not a lady like me that happens to be the size of a slight 12 year old girl. The Shale and the Hawk coloring was very similar. The Shale tended more towards Taupe, and really was a Fantastic neutral. I wish they would

I'm usually a size 8 and I ordered a size 7 and had to return them for a size 8. The size 7 was a bit too snug with socks on as my toe was also hitting the front of the boot when I walked... with boots you always want a little more room! They are super cute and I love them... hope I don’t get blisters as other people have said, but they probably just need a little breaking in like most boots and should be fine...

I actually love the boot (Shale is a great color) but need to be able to wear dress pants over them rather than tucked in - alas, this did not work well with the faux fur ruff. I might try another version of Sorel in the pack boots without any collar. Sorry to send them back.

Very cute. Not as over-the-top as I expected - which is a good thing! They are just the right amount of outrageous to make them noticeable, but not tacky. They are pretty clunky but no more than some of my Uggs. Will be great for taking out during snow storms in MN with the rubber sole.

Super cute boots. They run a little long, but they're snow boots. I haven't had a chance to wear them yet, but I can't wait to see how they stand up to Michigan winters.

These boots are great for rainy 50 degree weather. For cold South Dakota winters, these just don't cut it. I wore these last winter and my feet were freezing and the sole of these shoes are very slippery.

Attractive trendy boot. I love the way these boots look. You can wear them with leggings and a sweater and it looks fab! Don't plan on walking miles in these boots, they are not that comfortable. Fun for short winter walks, errands, shoveling etc. I got the chocolate color. Definitely recommend! Much more character than the Uggs.

Much bigger, clunkier and heavier than they appear in the pictures. I thought they'd be cute but they are not - totally utilitarian. If you live in Buffalo, go for it. I live in New Jersey so I don't need a heavy duty boot like this and I want something with more style.

I had been eyeing these boots for a while because I really loved the look of them. However, when I finally got them I was disappointed in the fit. They felt so stiff around the calf that they made me walk quite awkwardly. Also, at the top of the boot the faux fur cuff and tabs come out so far that they kept getting caught on each other as I walked, pretty annoying. I am 5' 3" so they may fit a taller person better. I usually wear a 7 1/2 or 8 so I ordered an 8. They were a bit big, which may have added to the awkward feeling. My toes seemed to rub against the front of the shoe while there was too much room in the back. But I don't think there was enough room to go down a whole size. So they were a return. Even if they fit comfortably I would be unsure about them because in real life they look very big and imposing and furry. They're a bit of a fashion statement. I live somewhere where we don't get a ton of snow, so on days of light snow they may have been overkill.

I wanted to love these shoes because they are just so cute. Unfortunately, I found them to be way heavy and a bit uncomfortable. I wore them around my apartment for a day and something felt like it was poking into the bag of my leg whenever I took a walk. Sadly, they are being returned.

I live on the east coast and was looking for a solid winter boot. These arrived and, while they are cute, they weigh a ton! I walked 8 blocks in them and my legs were sore. They are extremely heavy and stiff. I liken their feel to a snowboarding boot. I had on two pairs of socks and my toes still got cold. Not my idea of a good snow boot. In addition to the weight of the boot, they are extremely wide. I wear an 8.5 to 9 size woman's shoe and ordered the 9. When I put them on, I thought I had been sent man's shoes. They made my feet look enormous. When I tried to return them to the Sorel website, they refused (even though they had only been worn once). My recommendation would be, if you really want these boots, order them on Zappos where you can easily return them if you're not satisfied. The Sorel return policy is terrible.

I'm sad to be returning these since they're such a great looking boot. It's just a hassle to get my foot past the heel. They are nice though!

The boot is really cute. But quite heavy and wide. The back is very stiff. I think I will return them. For the price I don't want to risk being uncomfortable.

Boots are cute. But huge! I wear a nine and they looked like an 11 when I received them. They are super wide and I have wide feet. I know it is for warm socks but they make your feet look Humongous! I sent them back.

Not for high arches. I wanted a tall boot for walking through tall snow drifts. Two things that made me return this boot. First, I have very high arches and the top of the boot caused too much compression that made my feet hurt (I usually wear a 5 but tried a 6 since I like thick socks in my boots). Second, the fur is not removable. Seems like it would take too long to dry if crusted with snow. If you have normal shaped feet though, this boot may be for you.

Heavy! Plus the plush at the top does not cover the front part where the shoe ties.

I have been waiting for over a year to purchase these boots - and my size/color combination finally became available! Sadly, upon receiving these boots, I discovered that my high arch does not fit into the boots! I have this problem with riding boots/tall cowboy boots, but I assumed that since these lace up - there would be some give. There is not. So to all of you high arched ladies - these might not work for you.

I must not be the right size for this boot. It felt extremely stiff up my leg. I could barely walk without feeling like a giant. I had to ask my husband for help taking them off to make sure I didn't hurt my knees pulling them off. I extremely disappointed about all the hype and no delivery. Nice advertising, but this is not a boot for smaller women.

This boot is attractive, but uncomfortable. It is really stiff and it narrows at the back of the ankle. As I stepped forward, the whole boot moved as a unit and the back cut into my ankle. The heel is wide, too - my finger fit in the gap.

I've been looking for a stylish yet functional boot for a while and the Joan of Arctic seemed to fit the bill. I wanted to love wearing them as much as I loved the look/style of them but unfortunately, it just didn't happen. Beautiful in design and in quality (VERY warm for the time I wore them around the house) but the fit and function are awful. The toe box is ENORMOUS. I don't know whose feet these were designed for but I don't think it's a woman as I wear an average width shoe and my feet were *swimming* in these. They're extremely clunky too making walking nearly impossible (unless you like picking your entire leg/foot up with each step like you're walking in swim fins or stepping over something). And the beautiful-but-very-stiff suede shaft also contributed to my inability to walk as it's inflexible at best (also very tight at either side the ankle). So sadly, they must go back.

I was disappointed with these boots. I bought them last year and read all the great reviews. They hurt around the ankles and caused blisters behind my heels. I have never had boots do that! Super chunky hard to walk in and heavier than expected...traction not the greatest either. Expensive boots not be work properly in the snow!

Sorel rated: -25 F/-32 C, not true! I purchased these boots based on the rating due to the fact that I was moving to Mongolia, to the "coldest capital city in the world", which sees temps drop to -50F frequently in January. I wore these nice looking boots a couple weeks ago in temps that were in the single digits above zero, and expected to have no problems, well, I was wrong. After about 30 minutes, my toes started feeling cold. As time went on, they got colder and colder to the point that I decided I had better get home fast. By the time I was able to get home, they were burning. I cannot figure out how they got a rating of -25. I am very disappointed in these boots and if anyone truly needs warm boots for cold temps, I cannot recommend these. I know how to dress for cold climates, I have lived in Alaska before, so don't think I had on the wrong socks.

These boots are so uncomfortable :( They are constructed in such a way that the heel piece is very stiff and rubs into my ankle/achilles tendon. I am returning them. I ran into another woman wearing the same boots and she said she had the same problem but wears 3 pairs of socks and that fixes it. Very disappointed in Sorel.

I was hoping for the best, but these are big and heavy, just like the other reviews. I'm returning them today.
