Kind of baggy; I didn't like these boots. The shaft is baggy, but not in a good slouchy way, just baggy. I was hoping I'd be able to wear them with skirts, but the bagginess is just unattractive. I tried them with pants not tucked in, and the round toe looks sort of dorky. Also, I think Frye is way overpriced. These looked so pretty online I thought it might be worth it, but when I actually tried them on: no.

I was afraid to order these, being petite 5' 1. Small calves 12" & ankle 8". Strange after reading reviews, how people can wear these with athletic calves & I can too. But I really think you need to size up 1/2-1 size you have Athletic calves. Because they work on me. The calves are loose but they still look good and stay up. Height of calf is just below my knee. I got light tan. They kind of look yellow on pictures above, but is a true tan/camel color. Very comfortable. I ordered my normal Frye boot size. If you are on the fence, I would jump over & order. You will love. Problem for me is now I want more colors.

The size 11 fit my 18 1/2 inch calves...the soles have no grip so they seem a little slippery right out of the box but other then that they are a true knee high boot. I like them.

Love these boots but I have high arches and was unable to drop into the left boot. Exchanging for 1/2 size up to see if it will make a difference.Keeping my fingers crossed! Exchange process is amazingly easy and Zappos customer service rocks!

These are the sexiest boots ever! Such great quality and the fit was right on. They are pricey but totally worth it!

Let me start by repeating something many other reviewers have said: I lusted after these boots for a long time before taking the plunge. It wasn't until one day, trying to spend the day in NYC while wearing my 4-inch-heeled Italian boots, and not having much fun, that I decided to buy these. I was fortunate that I caught them on sale, and that I had a small gift certificate from Zappos to offset a bit of the cost. I have been wearing them for a few months. This fall/winter, I have rotated between these boots and my other pair of Frye boots (Harness 12R), so I wear them at least half the time. I got the Vintage Leather in black. At first, the boots were stiff in the foot. Having gone through the process of breaking in another pair of Frye boots, I wasn't concerned. After a few months of regular wear, they feel more and more like I'm walking in pillows. That is the beauty of the traditional leather construction: the whole shoe will shape to your foot, and fit literally like a glove. I also love the style of these boots. They dress up or down equally gracefully. I wear them with jeans and a chunky sweater, with black leggings and a glittery tunic top, or with a dress for a night out on the town. I find these boots in the shiny black leather to be the perfect combination of sexy and badass. And they are comfortable enough for those days when my job requires me to be on my feet all day in black shoes. If I could give them 20 stars, I would.

I love these boots! I am a Frye fan. When I received these boots, I had to get them in other colors! My calf is average size and the boots slide on effortlessly. Someone with thin calves may find the boot a bit roomy in the calf, but I think they are perfect. The look great over skinny jeans. I am between an 8 and 8.5. I bought the 8.5 because I like a roomier toe. There was no break-in period for me. I wear them all day and they are super comfortable!

Love these boots! I have them in the short version as well! The fit was true to size for me. Love them!

I just received my dark brown Carmen Harness Tall. I usually wear 7½ or 8 in Fryes. I went with the 8 I probably could do the 7½ but I can wear thick socks if need be. I love the style, smell, and everything about them. They are stinking cute. I have the Carmen 14L side zip ones in black and these are way cuter. I have skinny legs with somewhat athletic calfs, and there is plenty of room to tuck jeans in, they are very easy to slip my foot into. They do not slouch much at all they are not skin tight to the leg but not sloppy big either. They seem to look like they come up higher than my Carmen 14L side zip ones. For this price they are an amazing value! Zappos rocks, too!

I love Frye boots and have a few pairs. I also knew that I have both size 8 and 8.5. Unsure, I ordered both. I decided on the 8.5 as these boots are a little snug in the width close to the toe. (could be the heel). The leather is beautiful and soft. They are very comfortable. I was able to wear them all day the first time I wore them. If you want a sleek, fitted look...these are not the boots for you.

These are amazing! I got mine in the black waxed suede which is so beautiful with a slight texture and shine. I wear 8.5 and they fit true to size, as all Frye boots so far for me. I love that they slip on so easily and are zipper free. The pull on tabs at top are useful. These boots go with everything and can be both casual and dressy. Extremely comfortable, I've worn them both with and without socks. No need to break these in as they are just comfortable all around.

I LOVE THESE BOOTS...This is my 2nd pair of Frye boots and I adore them. They do stretch a little bit and I probably should have ordered them 1/2 size smaller, but I wanted to be able to wear thicker socks with them, so they're 100% okay in the size I purchased which was an 8. These boots keep your feet super warm and are very comfortable. This is a purchase you will not regret! I got the Grey Veg Tan Leather and it looks more brown than grey which I love. Looks wonderful with both black and brown. Score!

I have huge calves. They are about 16.5 inches around. I ordered these boots and they fit, but barely. I took them to the cobbler (aka shoe repair) store in the mall and I had them stretched. I picked them up 2 days later and paid less. THESE BOOTS RULE! Now I need about 5 more Frye boots and I'll be happy. :)

I've been eyeing these boots for a long time now and I finally bit the bullet and bought them. Been wearing these non stop since. Got them in the black waxed suede in a size 7.5 (they fit true to size). One main thing I love about these boots is that they are made with AWESOME QUALITY! This boot is made so well, I know that they're going to last me years! After breaking them in they're so comfy. A little on the heavier side but nothing too extreme and bothersome. I've worn these dressed up and down, they go with everything! Very satisfied with these boots. :)

This is my second pair of Frye boots and I absolutely love these boots. I wear them all the time. It took a week or so to wear them in but after that they're awesome!

These are beautiful boots. I ordered the boots in the gray veg color, and it is a beautiful, deep gray, thick leather. In fact, the leather is stiff enough where the slouch is really just a bit of extra leather around the ankle/lower shin area. I have small calves and ankles, so I help this helps balance our my not as small thighs. I am basically a 6.75 size, so I ordered down to a 6.5. I will need to wear thick socks for the fit to work well, but living in a cooler climate, this is fine with me. Otherwise I believe a 6 would probably work better. As usual, Zappos' service was superb.

These boots are gorgeous! Love the western feel. I ordered tan waxed suede in my usual size 6 but they are a bit too small. They fit but I have no wiggle room and would have to wear very thin socks so I'm going to try a 6 1/2. The color is beautiful and distressed and the style is super sexy. Zappos is awesome! Received my boots way early! Thank you again Zappos!

The lighter Grey Leather color is what made me want this boot. I have lots of brown Frye boots and wear an 8.5 in the harness, engineer, campus and Vera slouch but I had to size up to a 9 in these. Then the big decision before I could wear them was what product to apply to protect them from all the rain and mud in my life. I was debating between Bickmore Gard-Mor spray, which I believe would have retained the exact light frosty look of this boot or Bickmore 4 which I figured would mellow and darken them up a bit. I tested and chose the Bickmore 4...it was exactly the look I was after...the boots are so cool and so beautifully made; definitely the most fashionable Fryes I own. They are kind of baggy with a sort of odd sassy look that is hard to pin down, I love it. I also have thin vibram soling put on the bottom of any leather sole and I will likely add a heel tap if the heels start wearing unevenly. Worth the effort and the money.

Absolutely beautiful boots! I had been debating this purchase for awhile and finally pulled the trigger and bought them. The are fabulous! Soft supple leather and so comfortable! They felt broken-in from day 1! I have been wearing them constantly (to work and for play) since I got them! Love Zappos - best prices & super fast delivery! Just do it! You will be so glad you did! Compliments galore! So happy! Totally love them!

I think my love of Frye has turned into more of an obsession after I got my first pair of Carmens. These boots are so cute! I get compliments on them everywhere I go. I have 6 pairs of Fryes and 4 are Carmens! The only thing I don't like is that the waxed sued smells really strong, but maybe that will fade.

Splurged, and it was so worth it. I ordered the dark brown leather, in my usual size 8 and they fit perfectly. Just enough room for my socks but not too big to wear with thinner socks in the warmer months with a dress or skirt. The leather is beautiful and soft, the sole is soft and squishy. I can't even describe it well enough, please try these if your on the fence. Zappos has a wonderful return policy (doubt you'll want to bring them back when you get them though).

I love these boots. I have a problem with my left foot, the harness just wouldn't give. I think you should have harnesses that unsnap. That would have solved my problem.
