This is an impeccably made boot, very good leather throughout, from outside to inside lining and sole. But they are very casual. I ordered these in black and the leather is so distressed it verges on suede. They are also very wide in the calf area (good for athletic or larger calves) and the thick leather is baggy and most likely prone to slouching if your calf width isn't on the larger side. Unfortunately, I was searching for a stiffer, more slender boot so I sent these back. They definitely run true to size in the foot bed and are extremely comfortable. They do look best if you are wearing as skirt with opaque tights, a casual dress, or tucked into straight legged jeans, which will show off the cool styling of this beautiful boot. Otherwise, like another reviewer noted, the round toe of the boot does look somewhat dorky under pants alone. The beauty of these boots is in the comfort, the high quality craftsmanship, and the edgy harness detail. But if you're looking for a boot simply to wear under pants, go for the classic Frye Harness 12R. I hope this helps!

Perfect boot with slacks (tucked in or worn over the boot) and casual dresses or skirts. The pebbled leather is a bit different from most boots and until I got advice regarding maintenance I nearly sent them back. The heel height is perfect, calf volume larger than my average size calves, but works well to tuck in pants. These are a great alternative to black stiletto dress boots and much more comfortable. They will last forever. Typical Frye: high quality leather, fit well.

These are the best boots I've ever owned. I received them about two weeks ago and haven't worn anything else on my feet since. I wear a size 7, and ordered a 7 in the grey. They felt true to size, but I returned them for a size 8 in black because I wanted to be able to wear thick wool socks with them. They go with anything from dresses, skirts and leggings, to jeans. The heel height on these boots is almost 2 3/4, which is great for adding height. I am an artist and student and I'm always on my feet in the studio playing with tools/running around campus and they are still comfortable and very durable. A staple in the wardrobe, and will last a long time. Make the investment; you wont be disappointed.

I always order a half size smaller in Frye's, so ordered the size 6 in the Black Vintage Veg Tan Leather and the Gray Leather (vintage tumbled full grain). The Black are stunning, love the feel of the gorgeous leather and the soft sheen! The gray, on the other hand, have a matte finish and are super soft and slouchy, which is not my style, so they are definitely going back. The only reason I may send the Blacks back is because I also ordered the Karla Engineer in black and they are equally stunning and fit my slim legs fantastically. The Carmens have a very different foot with the upturned toe and they "walk" differently than any other boot I've tried, kind of a rocking motion. However, I love the Carmen style so much that I'm ordering them in the Vintage Veg Tan and the Taupe Waxed Suede to see if I like either of those.

These boots are amazing! I bought them in the grey and they match so many things. They look great with everything from leggings, to jeans, to dresses. They are the most comfortable pair of boots I own. I get compliments on these all the time. I was on the fence about buying these because of the money, but I am so glad that I did. The quality on the Frye boots is amazing!

Being from Texas, I know good boots. I have worn all kinds all my life and I am not young! I bought these same boots last year in brown. I had wished for black after I realized how much I was going to love them. And when I found them on the Zappos site this year, I was over the top excited! I absolutely love these boots. I wear them all day comfortably and they are absolutely true to size! I am completely satisfied and have no complaints!

This was my first pair of frye boots and I love them. They are really comfortable and go with everything. I find that frye runs a little big, I usually wear a 9 or 9.5, the 9 in these fits well with room for a thicker pair of socks.

Not only am I loving these boots, but the way they arrived to me was very efficient. I had to call customer service because the boots would not have arrived on time to the location that I had originally given. The agent canceled my order, made an exchange, and sent a different pair of boots to a different address without charging me a penny and waiving the extra taxes since the state of delivery had also changed! This company and website are very reliable and have great customer service!

I love these boots! I usually wear a 10 in running shoes and a 9.5 in heels. The 9.5 fit perfectly in these - a bit snug at first and perfect when broken in. Very comfortable and work well with skinny jeans as well as leggings. Lots of room for me in the calf area even with jeans on.

My new favorite boots of all time! I got the taupe color and they go with everything. These are extremely comfortable and fit over jeans and leggings. I have muscular calves and these fit perfectly! Love them.

I love boots. I have several other pair of Frye boots, including some rare and elegant riding boots. I love them all, but I must say these are the best. I got them in my usual shoe size, rather than half a size down as I usually do with boots so they are a little loose. I can therefore wear them with socks. They are comfortable, the taupe goes with everything and I can stand and walk all day in them. They are somewhat casual, and do not fit well under jeans that are not a full boot cut. Still, they look and feel awesome with dresses, skirts and jeans.

Love these boots! Great color (light tan leather)that goes with everything. The harness style is timeless, as FRYE in general! I purchased, actually exchanged for another boot that I didn't care for. Did the exchange online that night. Packaged and had ready for UPS to pick up the next day. To my surprise, when they picked up the return, these were waiting! Find service better and I'll shop there! Can't be done! Amazing service! Amazing boot! Zappos is great! The size on this boot is a bit larger than most FRYE. I normally take a 6 in FRYE. Sometimes will take a 6.5, but with the rounded toe (which I get tons of compliments on!), I wear a 5.5. Length is generous due to the rounded toe, but width is true to size. Pictures are pretty accurate as far as description, too!

Finally! Been lusting after a pair of Frye boots since the '70s. So glad I invested in these, I plan to be wearing them for the next 20 years at least. That's not a lot of cost per year. Can you tell I had to talk myself into splurging? But I have no regrets; they fit and feel great, and they are just cool. As for fit, I am 5ft 8, curvy and have muscular calves, and they fit perfectly true to size. Can't wait for the weather to get cooler (did I really say that?), so I can wear them more!

I love these boots. I was looking for a pair of knee high boots and ordered these based on reviews. The leather is soft but sturdy. The color is engrained into the leather and not floating like in those of lower quality. The heel is a perfect height and they look fabulous. I cannot wait to walk in them.

These are great boots. The upper is super soft. I slipped them on like I had had them for years. The size was true and the style is very hip right now. I got the waxed taupe, I like the contrast of the waxed effect and the color is quite neutral. The calf width is generous, I think some room there is cool as it adds to the look. The leather sole is too slippery for snow, I plan to take them to a shoe repair shop and get vibram soles put on. I have done this with other Frye boots and it looks fine and extends the use of the boots. Overall these are great investments and you get the Zappos service, what a great deal!

I bought these in a half size larger than my usual size because I wanted a certain color, and my size wasn't available. I took a chance. Unfortunately they were too big so I had to return them. These boots are very cute and pretty comfortable. I will definitely buy them in my size once I am able to. The shipping was incredibly fast. Thanks!
