I did a lot of research before purchasing these boots. I wanted a pair of hiking boots that would withstand both cold and wet weather without a problem, yet was comfortable enough to hike all day in. These boots had a lot of good reviews with a few bad ones sprinkled in. The bad reviews were typically about the comfort of the boots and that worried me. I decided to purchase them anyways after reading hundreds of reviews on dozens of other boots. When I received the boots I put them on and they seemed comfortable right out of the box. I do not have a high arch and do not need any arch support. In fact, boots with high arch support typically hurt my feet. These were perfect in regards to fit. The ONLY complaint I have about the boots is that the Gore-Tex outter layer is semi-stiff when you first get them. When I first put the boots on and laced them up, the top of the boot near my toes kind of folded right onto my big toe whenever I took a step. Whenever I would take a step forward, when my back foot was on the ball about to push off, the material on the top of the boot folded inward toward the base of my toes and was uncomfortable. I found that if I loosened the boots in the front by my toes when I laced them, they were more comfortable when I walked. After the first 4-5 times I wore them and broke them in the problem was almost unnoticeable. I would say the boots are just as comfortable as any other pair of shoes I own. One thing I will mention is the fact that they are VERY waterproof. I walked for 4 hours through heavy, wet snow up to my ankles in these and my feet were not wet at all. Very solid boots.

Man, I love these! I'm an old backpacker from Colorado and all throughout the west. In the old days we had our boots handmade by a guy like Steve Comito - Estes Park bootmaker. They would take forever to break in and the feet would look like chop meat in no time. So now I'm back in NYC and head out to Crested Butte, CO once a year for some hiking and walking thousands of miles with my dog now in the city. I bought a pair of these for my last hike in Colorado last summer. Bought them in Crested Butte. But when I hiked it felt like I had my socks bunched up in the boots and I kept taking them off to see what the matter was. Well, the matter was 1) I had Morton's Neuroma and 2) the boots I bought were the standard width. Finally, after many decades of getting the wrong size shoes and boots I decided to try these same boots in the wide size. Just what the doctor ordered. I love 'em. Gore Tex, great support, durable. And I tried others from Zappos and kept sending them back. These babes are staying here. Nice roomy toe box for my wide feet. I still have that thing called Morton's Neuroma but now it's so much better I can't believe it.

I have had a couple pairs of the non Gore-tex version of these great boots, and walked both pair to death. I wanted to try something with a little waterproofing, and these fit the bill. I have not worn them in streams or midsummer yet, so I cannot say how waterproof they are in more than heavy rain. Or if they will be much hotter than the regular Moabs in summer. What I do know is that they are very comfortable, warm and sturdy. They are great hiking/walking shoes. Just remember that these run small, about half a size.

This might be the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned in any style. Been out hiking with them in both winter (ice, snow) and summer (90 degrees +) weather and had wonderful performance.

These run true to size and width. They fit comfortably. This is my second pair and my first pair lasted about one year before part of the sole near the toe began to separate from the upper. I used to wear my first pair almost daily in moderate terrain, so I believe they held up well. Excellent waterproof feature and themal capabilities. Good traction and foot support I found while wearing these boots. That is why I purchaesd another pair.

I bought this pair of hiking boots for my husband, who hikes five mile trails in our mountains. I thought he would need to break in the shoes before going on an extended hike, but he was pleased with the comfort and support offered. He loves the boots! It is his second pair.

I don't often write reviews, but I thought it necessary in this case because of how happy I am with these boots. I've only been wearing them for a few hours, but they are great in every way. It snowed this morning, I trekked 2 blocks to my car, cleaned it off, a few inches on the ground, got in, and my feet were totally dry. Been in the office now for a few hours, totally comfortable and breathable as described. Highly recommended.

Great boot. My husband has worn this style for years. Unfortunately he injured his ankle and has to wear a brace. Ordered a size up hoping it would fit with the brace but it did not. Will be searching for a solution. I love Zappos!

I've worn these for the last week (typical break-in process) and quickly realized that they do not require one. They are extremely comfortable, do not make my feet hot, and provide awesome support. I paired them with some "Darn Tough Coolmax Boot Sock Full Cushion" socks am very pleased.

I purchased these for my husband and the first thing he said when he put them on was, these are so comfortable! He was going to wear them just for work, but he loves them so much he wears them all the time. Great fit, super comfortable!

Excellent boot for the money. This is my first pair of the "boot" style. Great fit. Wore them right out of the box for several hours with no issues. Own several other pairs of Merrell gore-tex shoes and have been very pleased with all of them. Zappos service is outstanding. They have always delivered great service and that keeps me coming back! Friendly people, great products, great service!

This is the absolute best of Merrell. Comfort support, and easy to slide on and off if you keep the laces a little loose. Awesome.

Very comfortable shoe right out of the box. I haven't gotten them wet yet so I don't know how well they keep your feet dry, but if they are like the last pair I had they should be fine in damp conditions. Because they are made outside of the U.S.A. they run small. I normally wear a 9 D, but had to order a 10 D in this shoe.

Great fit - and great water resistance! We're still getting snow here in the Rocky Mountains (16" on May 12, '14) and these boots have served well during this storm. Firm footing and lightweight, these are terrific shoes for me.

These boots are awesome. I have been wearing them quite a bit lately due to the snow on the east coast, and they are versatile enough to wear into the office as well as brave the snow. They have stayed waterproof on the disgusting streets of Manhattan (where the street corners are giant ice/snow/slush puddles), on a recent ski trip to Vermont, and shoveling the driveway. All while being comfortable enough to wear all day walking or at my standing desk at work.

I bought this shoe two years ago. This shoe has lasted me for at least 2000 trail miles and are just about going out. But this shoe saw me on a lot of adventures in the backwoods. Never let any water in and we've gone through a lot of streams and puddles together. The grip worked great even on wet granite. When my friends were slipping mine held true. Needless to say I love this shoe!

Extremely comfortable shoe that keeps my feet feeling great even after a full day of rough terrain. Mid-cut gives a bit of extra ankle support and the Gore-Tex is a life saver. Seems to be well constructed, has held up well thus far. Not the best looking/most stylish hiker, but function is definitely more important than form.

This is a good solid light hiking boot that is waterproof and very comfortable for all day wear. I have used the boots for long drives and plane trips as well as hikes and it performs well in all respects.

My first Merrells Moab hikers were size 9 and fit perfectly. After 5 years, it was time to replace them, but the newer version of this hiker is narrower than before. I will try the 9 Wide and hope they fit!

I wouldn't look at a shoe if it didn't have Gore-Tex, next, are the reviews and this boot had plenty of well deserving good reviews. I love them. The fit is great since I have a wide foot (E) and Merrell is one of the last manufactures to recognize this, I think the fit is perfect. Lots of toe box room in this hiking boot in the wide size. My use is in hiking, walking and in snow. Sure, I would recommend this boot to a friend, very nice.

First of all, I have only taken these out on three trips, so take that for for what it is worth. I needed all-purpose, all-season backpacking, day hiking, and bushwhacking boots. I have been through a pair of "high end" mountaineering boots that tore my feet up, an aging pair of old Nike hikers, and searched for months until I finally settled on these. I realized the mistake I have been making is not buying wides, and Merrell is one of the only hiking boot manufacturers that makes wide sizes for almost all models. These were the only wide boots I found that were right around 17-19 ounces per shoe. Plus, I have never owned a bad pair of Merrells. The boots are fairly light (19 ounces per shoe at 11½EE), very comfortable right out of the box, and totally waterproof. My feet were toasty and dry during a 10 hour snowshoe in 5°F weather. I will say if you are looking for summer boots, get the Moab Ventilators, since the Gore Tex model gets hot. The Moab ventilator low top is also a perennial favorite among thru-hikers. They are great boots that are great for big guys with wide feet and not too heavy for all season use. The style is pretty bland, but who cares when you are outdoors.
