Out-of-the-box all day comfort. As a Motorcycle Instructor, I needed an over the ankle all day shoe with good protection for the range, waterproof and lightweight. I'd worn through my M/C boots (too heavy) and a pair of Columbia hikers. My wife recommended these and they're great! Lightweight, cool, out-of-the box all day comfort, and great support for a 280 lb guy in a 11.5 shoe standing/walking in a parking lot for six hours... now for some hiking.

Bought these shoes for a 90 mile backpacking trek in the mountains of New Mexico (Philmont). I originally wanted heavier boots like the Asolo TPS or Fugitives. After buying those and trying them out I found the Asolos to be too heavy. The style and reviews were great but I knew the weight would wear on me. After owning some Merrell hiking low cut shoes I opted for the Moab's with Gore-Tex as they offered waterproofing and a less weighty feel. Here are my observations: Comfort - The boots were pretty much broken in out of the box and took little time to get my foot accustomed to it. Shoes were true to size and I had no issues on the hike - not one blister! Waterproof - I crossed multiple streams up to the mid laces without anything getting into the boot so I'd say they worked great. There were no issues on breathability which was a big plus... no sweaty feet. Sole/Stability - The boot performed well except when descending extremely steep grades (>40%) and when hiking over 100% rocky (grapefruit size) areas. During steep descents my pace was much slower than my buddy who was wearing the Asolo TPS. The stability and heavy duty build of that boot allowed him to move faster. When on the extremely rocky areas I could feel every edge and point on the rocks through the sole while my buddy didn't. At the end of that day my feet were beat up pretty bad. These two conditions only made up about 5% of the journey so I didn't mind. Overall - The boots performed up to my expectation. I knew that by going with a lighter boot I'd give up some stability and sole cushioning but in the end it was worth it as the light feel of the boot helped me keep a good pace during a majority of the trek. My buddy with the heavy Asolos did say he wished he had something lighter for most of the treks. In the end, it's up to what you want. I would buy and use these again on my trek.

Good traction, good ankle and arch support. I have tried other "waterproof" shoes. These have held up well. My feet stay dry in wet grass, mud and walking through shallow streams.

I have had many kinds of hiking style boots and these so far are the best I have bought. They are extremely light and they wear nicely and the heat doesnt seem to bother the sole as much as I thought. I am very impressed and would recommend them to anyone in a very hot climate.

Other than the flimsy insoles, these are great boots! The insoles are too thin and lack arch support, but I replaced the insoles right away and they feel awesome. I wore these all day for the first two days I had them and didn't need any break-in time. Did a long hike on day 2 with lots of rocky terrain and creek crossings. Great soles with good lateral support, and the Gore-Tex kept my feet dry.This is my 2nd pair of Merrell's. Wore the first pair for nearly 10 years. After about a month with these my only disappointment is the insoles, but that's an easy fix.

My first experience with Zappos; more than satisfied. We live in rural far northern Vermont, and the nearest shoe store is 45 minutes away. I checked there, and found this style, but not in my husband's size. I found the reviews on Zappos extremely helpful, especially comments about sizing and feedback about general comfort. I ordered these, they came faster than expected. We are traveling out of country, hoping to do a lot of hiking, and my husband found these comfortable out of the box, and true to size. He's not sure they will provide all the support he needs for hilly terrain, but likes the soles - good and grippy. I am also so impressed with the breadth of the offerings at Zappos - how can any store compete?

Shoes didn't last. Already fallen apart, didn't even last 6 months. Didn't keep feet dry at all. Will never buy a pair of Merrells again.

I bought these shoes for light hiking on well groomed mountain trails. Unfortunately they are disappointing. The Vibram soles provide sufficient traction but the insole foot bed leaves much to be desired. I instantly replaced the paper thin cushion that came with the shoes with a thicker pad. This provided some relief but still left these shoes very uncomfortable. My feet were aching after a few short miles. I have put a lot of miles on my feet hiking throughout the Rockies, Sierra Nevadas, Adirondacks, Appalachians and Alps in numerous styles and brands of shoes. These shoes were designed to meet a price point and not designed for hiking. My recommendation is to look elsewhere.

I've owned these boots for about a year now and I'm not sure I'd buy them again. I first noticed within 2 months of wearing them that they are not waterproof. These boots are ok to accidentally dunk your foot in a puddle every so often, but are terrible in the event of a rain shower: they leak around the seams of the sole. Also, the soles began to separate from the front of the boots and formed small floppy lips after about 3 or 4 months of wearing them and I don't even wear them that often! I only wear them for day hikes and go hiking about 4 or 5 times per month. For the price, this is unacceptable. I've owned one other pair of Merrells in the past and had the same problem with the sole separation. It's nothing major: it does not obstruct walking but should not occur under any circumstances when you pay the prices they charge.This is my second and, most likely, last pair of Merrells.

Worst boots in the world. I won't waste my time writing too much. Soles falling off after 1 month hiking. Not waterproof at all. Can't walk on wet rocks. Have met 3 other people that wear them with the same stories.

I have flat feet so the extra wide option for this shoe was great. The shoe is very supportive and comfortable while hiking.

This was my first purchase from Zappos and everything went smoothly. I received my order on schedule and will definitely check Zappos first next time I order online. This seems to be a recurring theme. My husband also wears these shoes for walking the dog. He has been wearing the non-Gore-Tex version for years, but ordered the Gore-Tex by mistake. Good thing, because it's been raining daily for about 2 weeks. His feet are nice and dry.....

This is my 2nd pair. They are instantly comfortable and transition from trail to casual dinner easily.

I ordered these for my boyfriend and he loves them!!! He wears them regularly here in snowy Michigan (and we've gotten some thawing too, so there have been puddles as well.) and they have kept his feet dry. Just as great is dealing with customer service! These ran a 1/2 size big, so we had to exchange them and it couldn't have been easier!! I wish more companies were this easy to deal with!!!

These are the second pair of Merrell Moab shoes we have bought for my husband. He loves them!!!! Great shoes, it's all they say it is.

I work outdoors and these shoes are comfortable to wear. My feet stay dry at the end of the day. I get a new pair every year since the souls do wear out like any other pair of shoe with the amount of walking I do.

Great winter work boot. Keeps feet dry and warm.

Wanted some dayhiking boots for Rockies and Sawtooth trip in a few weeks. They arrived with zappos usual efficiency, as ordered. I have done 4 day hikes locally in Florida...from torrential downpours to hot hot hot and humid. Boots great so far and are surprisingly cool. My overall assessment so far is the same as my first impression when I put them on.... "OMG, these are the most comfortable shoes I own right now." Ordering another pair for my wife today.

There is no 'break in' time with merrell hiking boots. They have a good fit, just a tad bigger, which is good. Good feel, quality, and look good plus light weight. Good luck.

These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I wear them everyday and they are great for hiking. I love buying from Zappos - the best online store for shoes!

Great hiking boot, I used the lower style out in the Grand Canyon in March and they were great, so I ordered the higher ones for hiking around the Cape Cod. They are extremely comfortable.
