Purchased these for my son. Didn\'t take him long to head off hiking. From the first time he went they were very comfortable.

I have hard-to-fit feet, and I\'ve had both quality and fit problems with Merrell products in the past. I took a chance on these boots based on the positive reviews that I read on the Zappos website. I figured that if, notwithstanding the great reviews, I don\'t like them or if they don\'t fit, the Zappos return policy covers me. Well, the boots fit very well -- size 13W, and they feel true to size\/width. They were comfortable right out of the box. I did a fairly rugged 10-mi hike with essentially no break-in period and no repercussions. As with any mid-top, dirt and detritus can end up in the boot, but I expected that. The boots are supportive, don\'t slip on the heel or elsewhere, and have good traction. On top of everything, Zappos delivered them at lightning speed for no extra cost. That\'s the kind of customer service that keeps people coming back, and wins new customers by word of mouth. Well done on all counts.

Merrell shoes have been a favorite of mine for several years now, the fit is superb. These shoes carried me 75 miles over the wilderness trails of Isle Royale without a problem, no water leaks, great grip on smooth rock both wet and dry, making for easy striding over all the trails. As others have said, the laces could be more grippy, to keep them tied better. Other than that niggling fault, great shoes.

I purchased these for my son for a week long hiking trip. We didn't have time for a break in period and he has a very wide foot. They were great! Not one complaint and this kid won't typically wear anything but basketball shoes.

I am a civilian contractor in Afghanistan. I appreciate Zappos shipping direct to the military addresses overseas. Boxes from Zappos normally get here without delay. The shoes are waterproof and rugged. Just what is needed in the Afghan mountains.

First of all, Zappos is great. Great way to buy boots and try them on at home where you can take your time to see if they fit correctly, try different socks and hiking inserts. The Merrell boots are great. I did a lot of research on boots before I bought these. I was looking for a light weight backpacking boot that had Gore-Tex and vibram soles. Took the boots out for a 5 mile hike and no break in was necessary. Super comfortable out of the box. Did not try in the rain or with a pack yet, however, I think they will be great for light to heavy packs.

Bought these for my big teenaged son. He has used them fall, winter (in LOTS of snow) and now spring. I witnessed him standing in a creek for several minutes. And his feet have stayed dry in all these conditions. Also, this is a kid who would not wear anything else besides running shoes and he says these are just as comfortable, on the trail and around town. I read a review elsewhere from a guy with a 5E width that said the wide width worked for him so I am going to try a pair for my 3 1/2E width. This was our first time with Zappos and it has been great!

It's hard to find hikers in a slightly wider width, which you need if you go for miles in the mountains. Feet often swell when you go long distances. Merrell gets it and makes a good product! I replace my hikers about once a year because the foam breaks down a bit and sometimes the waterproofing fails, but I consider that a plus! I put 300 miles on them and then change them out! As with all shoes, I wish someone would come up with better laces that don't untie themselves.

I have worn low cut Merrell Moabs for several seasons and find them to be very supportive and comfortable. It was natural to move up to the mid height Merrell Moabs as a replacement for a more strenuous style hiking shoe. They are every bit as supportive, with an aggressive tread, and come with a bonus Gore-Tex liner. I found them to be a little more full volume than the low cuts, but the addition of an insole solves that problem.

After wearing out my pair of Zamberlan hiking boots (20+ years), I couldn't afford a new pair so I bought these instead. I have to say I'm very glad I did. These boots kick ass. Waterproof so they are great when if need to mow the lawn while it's still wet. These are so comfortable I'm buying a second pair of Merrell Moab XCR. Oh, I usually have to buy a size up because of width. I bought the 10.5 (regular size) wide version and it fit like a glove. I love these and they cost a heck of a lot less then the Zamberlans.

Great Shoe Overall - Overall, a great looking and comfortable hiking shoes. The only thing to be aware is that there maybe a slight crunchy noise when they are still brand new which comes from the Gore-Tex lining.

I love these Merrell shoes! They are the most comfortable and sturdiest lightweight boot around. They fit well and are excellent for snow shoeing as well as summer hiking. I want another pair!

Perfect -
This hiking boot is exactly what I was looking for. I had looked at many different sports stores but was unable to find one in a wide width with the bungee cord laces. It fit perfect, is comfortable even after being in them for up to 18 hrs. a day, and holds up to harsh conditions. I will buy this shoe again, and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a comfortable but tough hiking shoe.

Awesome boot -
Ordered these for my boyfriend. First hiking boot he's worn in years and years that fit like a glove. Wore them on back-to-back 10-mile hikes in West Virginia back country without a problem.
Fabulous. Multiple water crossings proved that the boots are indeed waterproof.

I work in the irrigation service industry and a true test of footwear is putting it to work. Three days of slopping around in the rain and turning on irrigation systems I have plenty wet time and about 70 miles on these shoes. They keep my feet DRY, in my line of work that is saying a lot. The Gore-TEX liner does its job and then some. Comfort level after three 10 hour days and not of bit of soreness in my feet is excellent. Size, I wear a size 11, ordered an 11 and they fit like an 11 should. At 15oz for a durable truly waterproof shoe I love these.

Comfortable -
The Merrell's Moab Mid XCR is very comfortable and very light weight. This is the exact shoe I wanted when I placed my order. I am 69 yrs. old and do volunteer work for Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy. I help build trails and maintain trails all year. These shoes give me great support and grip on the hills and trails. I would recommend these shoes for all types of Spring and Summer hiking.

Excellent for sore feet -
I got these for my wife who has had heel spurs and general issues with her feet. Unlike virtually every other boot she has tried, these are comfortable, have the support and work for hiking or just around town.

Comfy - but small!
This is the third hiking-boot type of shoe I've ordered from Zappos, and thankfully this one fit. BUT I had to order up a full size! A friend had the same shoe - a half size smaller than this - I tried it on so knew to get a bigger size. They're narrow enough for me - sometimes tough with a man's shoe. I'm pleased overall - they are comfortable and lightweight.

Merrel Moab Mid -
I've been very pleased with the other Merrell shoes I've owned for the past five years and so far these continue that tradition. Comfort, lightweight, waterproof, and good looks all in one.

Out-of-the-box all day comfort.
As a Motorcycle Instructor, I needed an over the ankle all day shoe with good protection for the range, waterproof and lightweight. I'd worn through my M/C boots (too heavy) and a pair of Columbia hikers. My wife recommended these and they're great! Lightweight, cool, out-of-the box all day comfort, and great support for a 280 lb guy in a 11.5 shoe standing/walking in a parking lot for six hours... now for some hiking.

Bought these shoes for a 90 mile backpacking trek in the mountains of New Mexico (Philmont). I originally wanted heavier boots like the Asolo TPS or Fugitives. After buying those and trying them out I found the Asolos to be too heavy. The style and reviews were great but I knew the weight would wear on me. After owning some Merrell hiking low cut shoes I opted for the Moab's with Gore-Tex as they offered waterproofing and a less weighty feel. Here are my observations: Comfort - The boots were pretty much broken in out of the box and took little time to get my foot accustomed to it. Shoes were true to size and I had no issues on the hike - not one blister! Waterproof - I crossed multiple streams up to the mid laces without anything getting into the boot so I'd say they worked great. There were no issues on breathability which was a big plus... no sweaty feet. Sole/Stability - The boot performed well except when descending extremely steep grades (>40%) and when hiking over 100% rocky (grapefruit size) areas. During steep descents my pace was much slower than my buddy who was wearing the Asolo TPS. The stability and heavy duty build of that boot allowed him to move faster. When on the extremely rocky areas I could feel every edge and point on the rocks through the sole while my buddy didn't. At the end of that day my feet were beat up pretty bad. These two conditions only made up about 5% of the journey so I didn't mind. Overall - The boots performed up to my expectation. I knew that by going with a lighter boot I'd give up some stability and sole cushioning but in the end it was worth it as the light feel of the boot helped me keep a good pace during a majority of the trek. My buddy with the heavy Asolos did say he wished he had something lighter for most of the treks. In the end, it's up to what you want. I would buy and use these again on my trek.

Good traction, good ankle and arch support. I have tried other "waterproof" shoes. These have held up well. My feet stay dry in wet grass, mud and walking through shallow streams.

I have had many kinds of hiking style boots and these so far are the best I have bought. They are extremely light and they wear nicely and the heat doesnt seem to bother the sole as much as I thought. I am very impressed and would recommend them to anyone in a very hot climate.

Other than the flimsy insoles, these are great boots! The insoles are too thin and lack arch support, but I replaced the insoles right away and they feel awesome. I wore these all day for the first two days I had them and didn't need any break-in time. Did a long hike on day 2 with lots of rocky terrain and creek crossings. Great soles with good lateral support, and the Gore-Tex kept my feet dry. This is my 2nd pair of Merrell's. Wore the first pair for nearly 10 years. After about a month with these my only disappointment is the insoles, but that's an easy fix.
