Let me begin by saying Zappos rocks. But this isn't a review of Zappos...so that's all I'll say on that. And one last thing before I get to my review... if you bought these boots for someone don't just give it 5/5 for everything! Anyways, onto the review. I tried the plain old non GORE-TEX® version of these at a couple retail stores to get a feel of the boot. I decided that the non GORE-TEX® boot was really comfortable. However, none of the places had the GORE-TEX® version. I ended up ordering from Zappos.\After trying the GTX boots on I found that the GORE-TEX® lining really changes the feel of the boots. It's not as soft and cushiony as the plain version. I will also add that my left boot seems to really pinch the top of my big toe. The right boot is absolutely perfect but the left one is very bothersome. Anyways, I have worn these boots around for a couple hours for a few days. I've gone to class in them, walked the dog and just ran errands for a feel. It's been raining too so that was an added bonus to test out the GORE-TEX®...and the GORE-TEX® lining really works. I stepped in a giant puddle that went to the top of the toe box and my feet were totally dry. However, as nice as the GORE-TEX® is, the comfort leaves a little to be desired. There isn't as much cushion as the non GORE-TEX® version. Ankle support is minimal for a mid height boot. This is due to the mesh uppers. Full leather boots provide much stiffer support. Just be aware if you need support. Personally, I like it. These boots are very lightweight and sometimes I forget I'm wearing boots... until my toe gets pinched. And yes, I got my feet sized at the store and got the size they recommended, only from Zappos rather than from there. I don't know if I got a dud left boot but I'll try to talk to Zappos about that later. So to sum it up, if you think you need waterproof Merrell Moabs, then go ahead and get these. If you don't need waterproofing then please, get the regular ones. They are much more pleasing to wear.

My husband loves these shoes for walking the dog in all kinds of weather. They are waterproof and yet they they still breathe because of the Gore-Tex.

This is a great boot. I use my custom made orthotics which provides a very stable platform. The EE width gives me ample room in the toe box; no more sore toes. I used them brand new on a five-hour hike in the Dolomites. Waterproof membrane makes them a good choice for a winter boot.

I put about 400 miles on these boots while through hiking the at this year. So my thoughts are from someone who was backpacking around 20+ miles a day, every day for several months. These shoes need quality insoles, like super feet. Otherwise the stock insoles wear out almost instantly, and you feel every single rock on the trail. I had a lot of foot pain because of the lack of padding and arch support that these boots provided. The Goretex works well, and by the time I retired these boots, they still had not had a leak. The boots are made to last, just not the insoles. Very lightweight which I like!

Dark Earth is not what it claims to be. It's purple; don't be fooled when they say the color is Dark Earth. I don't know why Merrell went this direction but it kind of sucks. Other than that these boots are awesome. Merrell is top notch and the Moab is the best I've owned several mid and low tops. Extremely comfortable and stable and the Vibram gets grip on even the slickest surfaces. You won't be disappointed unless you order dark earth and expect to get something other than purple.

Great comfort, water resistance, and tracking. I had no problems walking on ice and snow with these. Note that they don't provide as much ankle support as similar shoes by Timberland or Salomon, but I was looking for something that would work just as well on a summer hiking trail as it did on a snow-covered slope.

I bought a half size bigger, and they were perfect. I could wear them right away for long periods.

I purchased these for a recent trip to Africa. I wore them every day for two weeks while touring the bush and some city walking. They lived up to their name. I love Merrells to begin with, these did not disappoint. As a bonus these boots are extremely light and perfect for packing in to your luggage for those longer trips.

I walk for exercise for a little over one hour for 5 to 6 days per week. Each time I walk between 4.5 and 5 miles. These boots are well ventilated, comfortable, and provide great arch support with good heal stability.

Bought these as the pair of shoes/boots I could throw in my duffel and go travel the world with. As another Reviewer noted, they are indeed purple and brown. A rather interesting color for Merrell to have used. Down rated one star simply for the color used for man's boots. Comfort and ruggedness you expect from Merrell!

I really liked this boot and compared it to a number of others boots. It's very light and has great traction. However, I wore this on a good 4 hour hike up and around Cathedral Rock in Sedona and it did great. I left them in my camper for over a month and it started making crunching noises like the poly lining inside that repels water was affected by the heat in the camper. This wasn't a huge deal so I took them out again, this time when the temp was down in the 30's. What happened to my surprise was that the area of the bend of the boot over the toes started hurting. It seemed that the lacing was digging into the top of my foot and it was excruciating. So these did not break in well.

I have a history of two broken ankles and these boots did not provide the kind of support I needed. They were comfortable but reminded me of running shoes, not hiking shoes.

I broke these boots in at Arches National Park on day one and at Hanging Lakes, CO the following day. They are completely different environments and they with stood the rough terrain of all the trails. They kept my feet dry in the heat of the Moab desert and kept them dry while hiking through streams on the way up to Hanging Lakes. They have excellent traction in both dry and wet conditions. They fit right and kept my feet comfortable the whole time (with proper hiking socks). I highly recommend these boots for beginning moderate hikers.

Great shoe. Usually a light weight shoe doesn't provide enough support for me, but this one does. Easy break-in.

Merrell did a good job designing the Moab Mid Gore-Tex XCR. It is comfortable, warm, and secure in uneven terrain. I have always bought Merrell sandals (too bad they don't make them as much anymore) but this is the first hiking boot. Plenty of room in the toe box, secure over the arch, no rubbing on the heel.

These are very comfortable and warm boots. I typically wear a size 11 but got a size 10½ and still have enough room to wear wool socks. They are great in the rain, the snow and especially on cold days. In fact, on warm days, they kept my feet too warm. They are a little stiff at first but after a few days of wearing them, the boots formed to my feet quite well, as any good boots should. The soles keep great traction on all types of surfaces. And finally, the boots are not too bulky for driving either. I would recommend getting a pair, especially if it is from Zappos. They have a great return/exchange policy.

Love these shoes my second pair. I went with the mid instead of the low so I can cross higher creeks... If you want to have comfortable dry feet in all weather conditions you need these shoes!

I bought a pair of Merrells in 2006 and wore them until they started to fall apart this year. I got these to replace them and haven't been disappointed. They're tough, felt comfortable right out of the box, and I'm expecting to wear them a lot and have them last just as long as the last pair. They might be a touch pricy, but they are worth it, because you won't be buying new ones every year.

I like the boots and the width is good, but they are too long. I think a size 9 will be perfict.
