I have owned Merrell boots for over thirty years. They have always been great for people with wide feet. This boot fits just great on my left foot without any irritation but on my right foot this particular boot has been trouble-some ,I cannot get the tongue and the laces tied in such a manner that it doesn't irritate my ankle. Zappos has been great in that they have supported my claim by allowing me to try two other pairs of the same boot. I just cannot bring myself to complain to them any more. I will learn to live with this or I will contact Merrell to see if it just me. Like I said, thirty years of buying their boots and no complaints. Has anyone else noticed this discrepancy in this particular boot?

I think this shoe is a good hiking boot. It is definitely waterproof and warm. I was not expecting it to be so warm but in the cold weather this will be good, now in November not so good. Feels very supportive and quite comfortable a little hard on the footbed but that could be addressed with insole replacement. Overall I am pleased with my choice for a hiking boot. Not as comfortable as my Brooks walkers or The Beast but then this is a boot.

The ring in the back of the shoe is annoying. It prevents the back of your pants from hanging all the way down over the shoe. I constantly have to pull them down.

I just finished summiting five 14er's in these boots, putting 50+ miles and 21,000 ft of vertical gain on them. They performed 'well' except that the left boot developed a 'crease' over the second joint of my big toe. It did not cause a blister but continuously pressed against that joint. I would have given the score all 5's if it hadn't been for that. I layered moleskin across my foot to help protect it but it was still uncomfortable. Right boot was awesome without any problem. They had little to no break in and were comfortable prior to the problem that developed in the left foot. Zappos was great in allowing a return after I had worn them on the trip. I am somewhat leery of replacing them with the same boot but I know others have had great luck with these. I may have just gotten a defective boot - I say give them a try! You can't lose with Zappos great customer service.

Good boot! If you're getting an extended width you should go half a size smaller than your normal foot size. This boot does not let your foot breathe. I recommend it for fall cool and cold climates.

Great boot for comfort, feel and performance. Overall appearance leaves a bit to be desired. Replace the round laces with flat laces because the round laces always slip.

I like them. Got my size, and I usually do better with a wide, so I ordered the wide. Fits well with plenty of width in the wide. Sole is a little stiff, but I guess that's what's to be expected.

In August I purchased Merrell Moab Mid GORE-TEX XCR boots through Zappos. In the summer and fall, I only wore them occasionally to break them in for hikes I was planning in January in Australia and New Zealand. The boots were pretty good while hiking to the summit of Cradle Mountain in Tasmania and over the Tongariro Alpine Crossing in New Zealand. No rubbing or blisters. The disappointing part was that the hard rubber part near the toes is already coming off of the upper part of the boot. Most likely some glue will solve the problem, but it is a little annoying that this happens after only wearing the boots for about 30 hours.

A better than average hiking boot. Since I felt the boot was a half size smaller, I cannot wear thick socks. The arch support is good.

The shoes offer a great fit and are ideal for hiking. They also breathe well, but also offer some water proof capability, which I appreciate. However, while I really liked the shoes, the quality of the material in the upper part of the shoes are rather poor. The brown part that is overlaying the perforated mesh/polka dot layer has a material that breaks down rather quickly. In my shoes, this brown part around the shoe started to crack and the fabric underneath it started to expose itself, especially around the toe area that bends when you walk. Although the soles are still in great shape and could still last a long time, they look rather ragged and I don't feel comfortable wearing them due to this. Because of this problem with the quality of the upper layer, I would personally not purchase these shoes again.

This is my second pair of Merrells. First set were the Moab Gore Tex XCR and they were fantastic! Figured I'd give these mids a try. Initially I was very pleased. They are super comfortable and keep my feet warm and dry. Then at two months of daily use one of the cloth shoe lace holders broke when lacing up. Figured it was a freak thing and not a big deal. I'd just skip that row lacing up. Last week had another break on the other one. Not the quality I expect from a shoe at this price.

I love the appearance and functionality of the boot but for me it fits smaller in length and pinches the ends of my toes. Unfortunately, I had to wear them for a full day before the pain registered and I had to discontinue wearing them. I should have paid more attention to previous reviews that referenced the same issue. I wear Size 10W and boots normally fit me to that size.

Having owned these for just under two years, I'm disappointed with their durability. While my lifestyle has grown more active recently, much of their time was spent as a casual shoe, worn around the house, on occasional walks and trips to the range. The soles have held up well, but flexure points are getting blown out and uncoupled from the uppers. The trim raised "trim" is abraded and the underlying material showing through. If you're very active, I'd expect you to have to replace these annually. I think a better investment would be in a higher-quality, more durable boot such as the Ecco line (I've had them in the past, and regret not purchasing them instead of these). I will admit that the Merrells are very comfortable, and sizing was accurate in both width and length. I'd buy them again if only I could expect them to last.

I've worn Merrells forever because they fit my foot well and have great arch support. These boots were shorter and narrower, especially in the toe box. Really uncomfortable.

I purchased a pair of these boots from Zappo's almost two years ago and had to send the first pair back to get a half size larger. I nearly rejected them when I opened the box because of the color, which is decidedly purple. That's not what 'dark earth' conjured up in my mind when I ordered them. For that reason, I've given them a low style rating. However, I needed new boots, these had excellent reviews and I figured that the purple would get obscured by trail dirt/mud pretty quickly, so I kept them. I'm an avid hiker and have put at least 600 miles on these boots. Generally they have been comfortable, although I did develop a blister on a 100 mile trip this spring. I don't know why. Perhaps it was a day 1 sock problem because I've not had a problem since. They are waterproof. That's been proven over and over again. I'm wondering how long I should expect a pair of $140 boots to last. Recently I've noticed that the "leather" on both boots is breaking down, and is even peeling off in several spots. The soles on both boots appear to be starting to separate from the boots themselves. The toe caps are coming unglued as well. The tread is in great shape and the insides of the boots are fine. I am not a large person, so I don't think I'm putting an abnormal amount of stress on these boots. It seems to me that they should not be breaking down like this. I probably will look to a different brand when I replace these.

These boots are fine except for one thing, which is critical for me personally: they have too tight and slippery soles on a rocky and wet surfaces.

Great boot. I hiked the John Muir Trail (230 miles) with these and they didn't let me down. Extremely comfortable and malleable. Only downfall is that they are not waterproof. They claim that they are, but if you have water around your boots longer than a few seconds, they begin to become soaked.

I have very difficult feet to fit. I wear an 8 4E in most shoes; however, the EE version of this shoe fits. I have bought three pairs of these shoes over the past two years and have been overall very happy. These shoes go on from the minute I wake up until I go to bed. These are not soft or cushy shoes and the arches are low. I have no issue with them when I have a day walking on dirt, grass or a padded surface; however, if I had to walk on concrete all day my feet would hurt. By far the biggest downfall of the shoes is that the way they manufacture them is very hit or miss; they vary in feel, arch, toe box and color. I always have to buy a few pairs of them before finding a pair that I like; as I said, I have difficult sized feet so when I find shoes that will work I do not give up on them easily. I find this disappointing in general but especially for the price. Due to the lack of consistency in the shoes I struggle to suggest them to anyone who could find another more dependable brand shoe for the same price. If you do decide to go with these shoes I would suggest using an aftermarket insole as the insoles that come with these shoes are thin and wear out quickly.

Purchased these for my 14 year old son who wears Merrell's quite a bit. He noted the same as other reviewers, pinch on the left toe bed, zero arch support, tired feet at the end of a school day. Bought these for a hike he would be making this summer with scouts and decided to return them due to the pinch across the top of the left toes. I rated them high on style because he really fought me in returning them (can't have a pinched toe when hiking 12 miles/day for 2 weeks) and he said they felt true to size for his size 13 foot.

Right boot is fine. Left boot flexes in a way that pinches top of big toe. Super annoying. Overall, these boots eventually become comfortable after a few weeks of break-in. They start out very stiff. Overall, would not recommend
I'd also recommend:
The non-GoreTex version of this boot is significantly more comfortable. Would recommend trying it instead

The Merrel Moab Mid are comfy boots. They fit like heavy tennis shoes, but after they get wet they smell like cat urine. I've washed them and dried them out with a fan and baking soda and they smell fine afterwards, until they get wet again. Then they smell like cat urine. The Merrel Moab Mid is not waterproof. My feet are soaking wet right now. Granted I was walking in about 2 inches of water earlier, but they are not waterproof.

Zappos dropped the ball on their normally good delivery times with this pair of boots! Shoes ordered from them usually arrive in 3-4 days after the order is placed. This last order was supposedly in stock, and took that much time to ship, arrived two days after that, and was delivered while we were out of town. Not only did the boots sit on the front porch in plain sight for two days because we were out of town, it rained and the package got soaked! They could have easily been stolen, but weren't, luckily!

Unfortunately, I am ordering a different pair of hikers after having these less than a year. They began to fall apart after only a few months and now have almost completely blown out. They no longer protect from water intrusion at all and have not for some time. I wear them for work but also where them for short hikes on different types of terrain. They have seen their share of snow, rain, mud and plenty more. In the beginning they seemed like a great shoe but the overall durability has me looking at other brands. I had a pair of cheap Columbia hikers that outlasted and outperformed these. I'm now looking at a pair of Salomon's that will hopefully hold up a bit longer.

The most comfortable boot I ever wore. The boot is not waterproof. My sock would be soaked just walking in grass with dew. The boots were only 2 months old when the sole started coming apart. Called customer service and they were great about helping me get a different boot. Love the comfort but hate the quality.

Boot began to leak within three months. The leather at the bottom began to separate from the sole shortly after. Otherwise, I enjoyed the fit and the grip.
