I ordered these because I have an athletic calf that isn't all that easy to fit into regular boots. However, these are kind of awkward looking, and not enough to return, but they are a bit awkward. The calf opening is fine, it's further down the boot/mid-calf where I get into excess boot. They're comfortable boots. I love Hunter!

The boot fits well I originally my normal size which is a 9, but they were way too big. I returned and got the 8 and they fit much better, but still a little big. That will be good for the winter and I will be able to wear thick socks. The boots came with a white film on them and it is supposed to be easily wiped off, but mine didn't wipe so well. My black boots look more gray because of that. I am 5ft 6 in and the boots come up really high, just be sure that's what you are looking for. I wore them in the rain a few times so far and they kept me completely dry!

I love these boots and have a pair in Navy. Get a pair of the Wellie socks (I got a pair of boot socks from LL Bean for $15) and you can use them year round. They are so comfortable and will keep your feet absolutely dry (and warm with the right socks). I am short (5\'2) and have wide calves for my height so these fit MUCH better than the original Hunters which were too tall and way too narrow through the calves. Definitely measure your legs (diameter and height to the knees) before ordering! I still wish they were a little roomier so I could tuck my pants in -- I would need very skinny jeans if I were to tuck them in without bunching. My only complaint is the color selection -- pretty boring compared to the original Hunters. If they came in more colors, I\'d probably order another pair -- one practical color, and one bold fun color.

Living in the rainy northwest, I finally discovered the functionality of a good rain boot. Unfortunately, the cheapo ones I got quickly broke apart. I needed a good pair of quality rain boots to walk through the wet grass and puddles on daily walks with my dog. I heard that Hunters were the boots to get. I love the bright colors of the regular Hunters but the shaft was too tight on my calves (just 14.5, which I guess lies just outside the norm). I got the Huntress, I was able to tuck in slim pants comfortably but other pants not so much. The ankle seems too wide. It's very loose at the heel (but I guess to have a riding profile to compensate for the wider shaft?) The toe area on the other hand were a tad tight. Ugh! They're not perfect but I've since tried other rain boots left and right (literally!) and these seem to be the best of the bad options. Such picky feet have I. So I'm keeping these until a better pair comes along. Though I would've loved a bright purple, I found the Navy suitable and subtle for all outfits/colors--from blue jeans, brown coats to even black tights.

I own the original Hunter Green boots from over 10+ years. When, I bought the socks for added warmth, this made for a very tight fit. Which led me to the Huntress Hunter Boot. This boot is perfect. Easy on, Easy off, even with heavy socks. I can tuck in my pants as well, and the height is just a wee bit shorter, so the back of the knee doesn't pinch as with the original. Love my new black Huntress boots! Black will go with so much more than the green, which I will save for the garden (the slight whitish bloom on the black is easily removed with a damp cloth, and the hunter spray).

Very stylish, but be aware that the non-gloss black is almost grey and all the color flaws in the rubber are very apparent. I am returning because it was too big. I'm regularly a 6.5/7 and ordered the 6 and it is way too big, but mostly the ankle is huge and kind of odd looking...too bad.

I bought these last year to for a stylish option to wear in cold rain/snow. The boots fit true to size. They are a bit cold without a sock so I recommend getting Welly socks to go with them to keep them cozy. I did get the bloom the other reviews are talking about. It developed while being stored for the summer. I took my black boots out of storage and they were practically gray! I scrubbed with Woolite in warm water, even soaked the boots (the lining dried overnight) with no success. Finally I resorted to an internet search to see what to do. There's apparently a cleaner you can buy online but it's a challenge to get it in the US. Also, someone suggested wiping the boots down with olive oil. Thought that sounded crazy but I was desperate. So, I mixed up 2 parts olive oil, 1 part white vinegar and wiped the boots down with an old wash cloth alternately with a damp sponge. And what do you know, it worked! Try it out, ladies! Only risk there is ending up smelling like salad. I hope this helps!

The boots look great and are awesome quality but no way are these going to fit the calves of plus size girls. I have average (plus) size calves and they wouldn't pull up past the calf area at all. I really wish they fit because they are even cuter than in the pictures but I'll be opting for the shorter Hunter boot instead. The green was a bit lighter and prettier than in the picture. I would give them 5 stars if they fit but it's a little discouraging to get a "wide" calf boot and it still won't go on. Hunter, please make a true plus size boot, there are plenty of us out here, trust me.

I'm a size 7 and I ordered both the 6 and 7 to compare. The 6 fit but because I have wider feet, my toes felt like it was jammed in the front area at times when I walk. The 7 was loose and without socks, the boot would fall off if I lifted my leg up since the ankle area is wide. Thick socks helped my foot stay in the boot but the 7 just didn't feel right when I walked and it felt bulkier. These are the perfect rain boots for someone on the shorter side with larger calves.

After about a year with the Hunter originals suffocating my dancer calves and cutting into my knee-pits when bending, I finally decided it was time to let them breathe. These boots really did the trick, as I suspected. They do seem to run a little long in the foot, which is good for cold weather purposes, not so good for traction traipsing through the field in the summer. They are rubber so they are still sweaty if it is anything above say 70 degrees, but at least they are easier to get off and air out...no issues with Zappos service, but did not test its full limits and capabilities. Love the selection.

I love these boots and can't wait to wear them fall through winter. I ordered the Huntress and not the original because I have a larger calf. These are very wide and loose on my bare leg but think they will work great over skinny jeans with socks in the winter and fall. I normally wear a size 9 and ordered the 8 based and they fit perfect!

I figured I'd try these to see if they fit my weird feet and calves and they do! I normally need a wide width shoe, and my feet are fine in these. There isn't as much arch support as I'd like so I'll probably throw in my orthotics if I know I'll be on my feet for a long time in these. I'm glad I bought the Huntress (over the regular Hunter) boots because these are wider in the calves. My calves measure approximately 15.5" around and there is still room to tuck my pants into the boot. The only complaint I have about the Huntress vs the Hunter boots is that the whole shaft is wider - not just the top where you'd need it most. So those of you who have really wide/thick ankles - these will definitely accommodate you.

I've been watching these Hunters on Zappos for a long time, I love love love Wellies. The Huntress in green went on sale so I jumped! They came the next day (free next day delivery still blows my mind) and they are a little more Kelly green then I think they look in the picture, and they've got that rubber smell, which is fine, but I'll have to keep them outside to air out for a bit. They are comfortable. I ordered a 10 (which is usually my spot on size, although I can sometimes get a 9.5 in open toed heels to keep them from slipping and flopping) and these 10's are roomy in the toe for sure. But I like my wellies to be big so I can wear thick socks, and plus, who expects rain boots to fit like sneakers? The last thing you want is a snug rain boot, at least in my opinion. I think they look cuter when they're big and ungainly. I wish I could order the Hunter Original because they are taller and come in cute shiny colors, but alas, I've got tree trunk leg syndrome. Even the Huntress just barely manages to circumvent my massive fatty calves. (I'm 5'8" and short waisted, but you'd never say I have long legs because they are so thick and lumpy. I like them, but I guess I'm not sure if I'll keep them. They don't look quite as clunky and wild as I wanted them to look on me. I would have liked them to have a wider shaft.. I wish they had a wider shaft. But they are definitely better quality then the wellies I've bought at Target (even though those are roomier in the shaft somehow). Maybe someday my legs will magically thin in size and I'll be able to live every day of my life (in the Utah desert) wearing Hunter wellies. And I'll never want for anything again...

I was very happy to see that label on these is Hunter, not Huntress. I really did not want to advertise my large calves. Plus, Huntress would make them look like I bought them off a street vendor. I am usually a 7.5 and bought these in a 38 and they fit well, maybe a little big, but that just leaves room for warm socks. They are a little baggy above the ankle. I have a 16.5 inch calf and these just fit. Would like them wider but I am still happy with them.

In New York City it rains a lot--sometimes it seems like it rains every other day. The Hunter/Huntress boots are great rain boots for every season except summer (they'd be way too warm) and are probably really good for snow, too, although I haven't had the chance to wear them when there's snow on the ground. The sole is very sturdy and the boots are so high that my feet couldn't possibly get wet. I definitely recommend wearing them with one of the Welly socks made to go with them; otherwise the rubber is clammy and uncomfortable on the skin. I wish that the Huntress line came in more colors and especially the glossy ones available in the Hunter line. If you get these, stay away from the green color. I agree with the reviewer who said it's a "garden hose" green. I got the navy and they look good.

Great boot. I have a 15 and 3/4" calf. It’s nice to have a boot which not only fits my calf, but still has some room for my jeans to fit into it. Jeans go into the boot with a little bit of effort and I can’t quite get them completely down into the boot, but it’s the best I’ve ever been able to do! It doesn’t feel tight, either. I love the boots for that reason. However, the ankle is a little big and funny. I got over it and wear them, as that was the only thing that annoyed me. I bought the hunter welly socks, but there is no way that I can wear that sock in the boot, as well as tuck my jeans in... but that’s OK as I just wear big socks without a problem to stay warm in the colder weather. The boots definitely run big. I am either a size 7.5 or 8 in shoes, I went with the size 7 (size 38/UK 5) and I might have been able to do a size 6.5, but they don’t make half sizes... the 7 is OK though (for an all-weather) boot.

I ordered these boots for my sister for Christmas. She lives in Chicago for school, and with all the wet and snowy weather, she needed something to go to and from class that wouldn't get destroyed. These boots are the ticket! They will be great for just wet weather, and when you add the welly socks, they are warm and cozy for winter weather. T\they are so great, I ended up getting a pair, too! Do be warned that they run a half to full size big; I normally wear a 9.5 or 10, and got a 9. They run similar to Uggs size wise. My only complaints are these: I wish hunter made the huntress in more fun colors; also, I nor my sister have what I would consider large calves. I would say they are average. Yet the regular hunters are super snug! Hunter needs to adapt their hunter to accommodate more people, or at least offer the huntress in better color selections.

Once I figured out the sizing and proper use of these boots, everything worked out fine. I normally wear a US size 8.5 wide or extra-wide. The UK size 7 was huge on me, so I wound up in the UK 6. These do not run wide, but because they're rubber and very stretchy, I don't think the width will prove to be a problem in the long run, and at least they don't run narrow. If you're going to wear these boots in the cold, I really advise getting a pair of the fleece liners to go with them, because they don't have much in the way of insulation otherwise. As far as the calf is concerned, I can just get the fleece liners, a pair of skinny jeans, and my leg in, and my calves are roughly 16" around. The fit at the ankle is a little loose. A note on color: I wound up returning the green version of these boots because I had thought it would be a dark hunter green when the color is actually closer to that of a garden hose. I'm very happy with the black ones.

I originally purchased the tall Hunter boots and was so disappointed that the calf size was so small. I don't typically have a hard time fitting my calves into boots, but the original Tall Hunters fit me around the calf with no extra room to tuck jeans into. I returned those in exchange for the Huntress style. The Huntresses are a perfect fit! Not too big, not to small (in terms of calf size) and I have plenty of room to tuck pants into them without looking like I'm swimming in them. They are about 2 inches shorter than the originals, but they don't look bad on my 5'8 frame. I'm a true size 10, and I found that both styles I tried are fairly roomy in the heel, but that can be remedied with thick socks. Still no big deal, because I love these boots and can't wait to wear them out again!

I original bought the regular Hunter rain boots, but they were too tight around the feet and my calves (I'm a runner, biker, etc., so I have muscular calves), so I returned them. The Huntress Model fits much better. I can now comfortably wear them over jeans. I'm normally a size 8 - 8-1/2, but I ordered a size 7 since I read they are running a size big. My toes are pretty close to the front of the boot, but otherwise they fit fine. If you're in between sizes and also planning on wearing socks thicker than standard tennis socks, I'd recommend just going a half size down to the nearest full size. I'm probably going to keep those, since it doesn't really get too cold here and I'm fine wearing thinner tennis socks with them. I only wish they would make them in some more brighter colors!

Well, I bought them to keep the water away from my feet, and they certainly do that. The calves are wider than other Hunter boots I\'ve tried, so they fit well. The boots do slide up and down a bit when I walk, which is a little annoying. I wear knee socks with them so they don\'t rub my legs or heels.

Wide calf rain boots - I'm 5'5" with short (ish legs), 16.5" calves (around the widest part), and wear a size 9 shoe. I bought the 40/41. The boots *just* fit around the widest part of my calves. It gets a little snug around there and causes the fit around the ankle to look a little bunchy and loose, but the rubber is very flexible so it's not uncomfortable. Socks are a must since the footbed is also roomy, but in terms of where my toe is in the toe bed, it's a good fit. I wear a true size 9, never an 8.5 or 9.5. I won't be able to tuck pants in, but plan to cuff my pants up to the top of the boot. I bought these with the plan to return if they didn't work (boots rarely ever fit my legs), but these are a keeper. Will be wearing them to a music festival in England and I think the height of the shaft plus the fact that my calves make these air-tight at the top (eek!), they'll do a great job to keep the mud and moisture out. Another rain boot I tried that fit my calves well was by Sperry Topsider. They were mid-calf height, but they developed a tear on the seam between the sole and the boot so I'm trying Hunter this time.

So adorably British looking! Taller boots never seem to fit over my calves with jeans tucked in, and these did fit me over the J.Crew Matchstick jeans. Also HEED the advice of the reviewer who recommended cleaning these off well to get rid of the white film. Initially I thought mine were damaged and had them all packed up to send back until I read that and decided to give it a try. My fingers are rubbed raw from scrubbing but it was well worth it because now I get to keep the most excellent rain boots ever.

Hunter Huntress - I bought both the traditional Hunter and the Huntress based off of other reviews to see which one would fit my calves. The Huntress is definitely larger at the calf and what I needed. With Zappos' no hassle return it was very easy to get both and send the one that did not work back. Great boot for rain or snow as long as you wear thick socks!
