Comfortable boot, very lightweight, and great looking. Like most Timberland boots, runs one full size larger than typical running shoe sizes.

First review. I've had these boots for a couple months now. Great boot right out of the box. Super comfy. Great look.

Avid Zappos customer but I found these very same boots at a local store in Portland, Oregon, for 15% less at full retail. The boots run large, at least 1/2 size if not more. With aftermarket arch supports they feel custom-made. Add to it the classic Timberland styling, and I could not be happier.
What was eye-opening to me was, Zappos was over-priced and lost out to brick & mortar. Lesson learned.

My husband wears these every day to work. For the price they don't seem to hold up as well as his Red Wing boots used too. Stitching comes unraveled.

This is the first time I got Timberland shoes, and have been wanting them a pair for a couple of years. After reading some reviews I saw some people saying to get half size to a full size smaller than one normally wear, that is true. I advise that they come half size larger, so you may want to have that in consideration. They are comfortable but I can't really tell how much since they are new and have to "break in". Maybe when this happens they will feel a lot better. They seem to be durable but only time will tell.

I bought these for my husband and I bought them a whole size smaller (as other reviewers had recommended) than he usually wears, and they fit. I loved using Zappos.com and will definitely use them again in the future.

As others have said, these run about 1.5 sizes too big. I wear a 10.5 in just about everything, so I thought a 10 would do fine. Wrong. I ended up also ordering a 9.5 (still too big) and then a 9 (fit).
The first order had a pretty good-sized glue blemish on it, but it was a moot point since I was returning because of the size issue.
If you're considering this boot, start with a full size smaller than what you normally wear.
Other than that, really liking them.

Soles wear way too quickly. Funny they call them earth friendly yet they must be replace much sooner than they would if they had a proper outsole. Real shame.
Also they indicate they do not set off metal detectors. At my small regional airport they certainly do.

The reviews are right: definitely one and a half sizes too large. I should have listened — purchased one size smaller than my usual size and they were still at least half a size too large.

Decent pair of boots for comfort and style to walk around town. Do not try these for hiking or anything like that. I against knowing better used these for hiking a few times, best I had at the time, while better than gym shoes for what I was doing I would still not recommend using these for anything other than walking around town or maybe doing an easy terrain hiking trail of some kind. Not waterproof, not enough cushion for rough terrain, and no real support. The overall construction in general is not that great. With moderate use, but easy going just walking around my college campus I managed to tear the stitching in the side of the boot. I did a cheap fix with super glue which held for the remaining life of this pair. The rubber sole wore out pretty quick, I know 3 people who had this pair and all of us had the same issues; including the stitching tearing. But the sole didn't only wear out quick it started to just peel off, not terribly, but a little along the edges. There are better pairs of Timberland boots for style, or any other purpose. Overall, decent if you really like the look and don't plan on any rugged use, but I would recommend a different pair ultimately.

These are nice looking. They run a size big. My toe sole came apart on two different pairs. Do not buy them for everyday use in wet/snow climates. I really liked them untill the sole came apart.

To start, I never go out of my way to write reviews, much less bad ones, but this is an exception. I've had TImberlands since I was a kid, I'm a huge fan, and will continue to be. I got these for Christmas, and immediately fell in love with the look and feel of them. However, they are not waterproof. If you want to just pretend you're an outdoors person, these are the boots for you. Go outside, step in a puddle or an inch of snow, your feet will be wet and cold. Also, within a day, the toe tread had a hole in it and the sole had started to separate; I hadn't even gone for a real walk in them. I gorilla-glued it, but no one should have this problem with a pair of boots this price. I love the environmental idea behind Earthkeepers, and I wish these boots were perfect. But they're far from it. Now I'm poorer, and have a greatlooking pair of boots that I can't go for a hike in. I really hope Timberland makes a more functional version of this boot in the future.

I seriously don't know what the hype is over these boots. They are not comfortable at all. There is literally no arch support. I had to go out and buy some inserts, to make them bearable. Also, I had to replace the laces because they kept coming untied. They're really not worth what my wife paid for them.

Like many reviews here. I love these boots, but unfortunately have had to buy two pairs in the last two years (I only wear them two months out of the year) because the soles just flake away after a month or so. I cannot justify buying a third pair now, so I am looking elsewhere this time. For this price they should last at least two years of low to moderate wear. Shame, because these are super comfortable and look awesome.

I purchased these 2 years ago. pretty comfortable but crappy construction. The stitching around the eyelets came apart on both shoes. The sole's wore out within the 1st 6 months. I wear these to work or out on a crummy night. I am sorry, but I do not suggest purchasing this poorly made shoe!

Why Zappos is still selling this horrible show, I will never understand. $160 completely out the window. While this boot is comfortable and looks great, it constructed of TERRIBLY LOW QUALITY. The first pair broke down in less than two weeks. Timberland gave me the run around, and when I left a negative review, Zappos called me to offer to exchange them for a new pair. That was nice of them, but they removed my review (which could have been useful to other customers trying to avoid getting screwed!). The second pair lasted a month before falling apart. At that point, I was done bothering. They sat in my garage for a year before a threw them away. Complete waste of money. Don't buy. I'll never buy another Timberland product for the rest of my life. On the other hand, though, Zappos does have pretty great customer service. I guess the one-star goes to them; no stars for the shoes or Timberland!

This shoe looks expensive stylish and that it would cost double! It is very comfortable and only compliments anything you wear. It is great for walking around or climbing / hiking!

This is hands down one of my favorite boots. I only wish they had more colors to choose from. I would collect them all if I can.

These are absolutely the best boots that I have ever worn. They fit perfectly and are extremely comfortable. I have only worn them a few times for long periods of time, but they have held up very well and never hurt my feet.

1. How would you describe this boot's capabilities?
You know Timberland, I don't like to throw around the words "unparalleled genius" casually, but that's what it comes down to, right there, my friends. I'm not sure the people understand how top notch the Originals Mid Boot is. They are a boon to all mankind! This boot's abilities are most likely beyond what people can understand. But that's OK, because people don't have to understand this boot to buy it, which I recommend all red blooded, wild, top notch human beings do immediately. Also, this boot's work ethic is comparable to a draft horse. Or Jesus, maybe. This boot is determined and strong, but it also works miracles and looks great and that's all you the people need to know.
What are the boot's greatest strengths/weaknesses?
What can't you do in these boots? You could run a 40 yard dash. Long jump in them like one of the Mario brothers. Play a full court basketball game in them. Solve global warming. But if we're talking about character strengths, then I'd say it has to be how you can also wear them to a fancy ballet too. While it may appear to you that it's just a boot, you'll find yourself head over heals in love with them as they age. This intense love is instant but it also gets better as you add up the miles and years on them. You are buying a boot and getting serious dedication, tenacity, and loyalty as well.
This boot's greatest weakness is either it's perfectionism or his inability to refuse extra responsibilities. They will happily do whatever it is you ask of them - and never, ever hurt your feet. They merrily take on alot of abuse without complaint. Many years from now you are going to be wearing them down - way down till he sole is worn away, and, together, you'll keep hanging on because you love them so much.
3. What is your overall evaluation of this boot?
This boot is the apotheosis of all boots that have ever been made, period! Ha-ha, just kidding. Or am I? In the history of time, I don't think a better boot has ever been made. Various things that come to mind when thinking about these boots, which I do often, even outside of my work: self-possessed, tall, strong footed, upright, weight-bearing, dynamic, full bodied, melodic, sweet smelling, and aplomb-filled. I could go on and on, but let me just say this:
The Timberland Originals Mid Boot is recommended if you like:
Saving money
Serene wisdom
Dashing intensity
Roaming around with Mother Nature
Fun
Immunity from having wet, blistered feet
Unstoppable awesomeness
Extreme durability
Originality - there's only one Originals Mid Boot

I bought these for my husband who is very picky about boots, and he loves them! True to size and seem durable. They come with waterproofing, so we won't need to do that right away. Very beautiful boots!
