My husband has been through two pairs of these shoes in about 10 years. The soles cracked eventually on both pairs but that is after quite a bit of use. He is a tall and large man so it was not really that much of a turn off for us because brands like Clarks or Kenneth Cole wear out in months for him. The cracks did not hinder wear completely because of where they happened. The soles can be replaced if the leather is worth the hassle either through Cole Haan or a trained shoe repair shop. We did notice the pair purchased in 2012 did crack sooner than his older pair. The fit is good, support is moderate (could be better) and they are true to size according to a man whose first job out of high school was selling shoes.

I have had these shoes for approx 1 year now. They are very comfortable but the left shoe did develop the crack in the sole under the ball of my foot. I contacted Cole Haan but was informed I needed to contact Zappos. I spoke with Chane from Zappos via online "Live Help" and he was very helpful. They are sending me a replacement pair at no cost. Thats customer service. I will continue to purchase my family's shoes from Zappos.

This is a fine shoe, maybe with a bit stiffer feel to it than I had expected. They look good, keep their shine well and, in spite of the stiff "ride," the Nike air sole makes for a very wearable and comfortable experience even over a whole day of work/walking/commuting. However, don't be fooled by the name - these are not appropriate for Santa Barbara beach walking. Kind of a goofy name.

I love these shoes. They have are the most comfortable dress shoes I have worn in the last 20 years. I especially love the Nike Air technology. The fact these shoes have Nike Air in them is what brought me to the Cole Haan brand. On the negative side, the soles of these shoes started to split after 4 months of light use. Cole Haan needs to address the quality of their products. They seem to have gone to cheaper materials over the years. Zappos was great about exchanging the shoes for a new pair. I hope the new pair last longer.

Zappos is always great on delivery. This shoe had a pretty big square toe and the style was not quite as I expected. All the other aspects of the shoe are very good.

The shoes look better in person than online. They feel great but they are cut a little bigger than expected and a feel a little wider in the heel that rubs my ankle. Hopefully I can get something to fill the shoe out because I like them.

After 7 months of wear, one shoe got a deep crack under the ball of the foot. Cole Haan shoes...expected better quality. One call to Zappos and I was offered either a new pair or a refund. Incredible customer service! After reading other reviews I took the refund.

My husband liked these shoes, but wished they were available in a triple-E rather than just wide. Not much Zappos can do about that, I realize. :)

Good looking shoes that seem to wear well. I have found them to be a bit narrower than normal shoes but break in okay. The heel has taken some time to break in and the typical new shoe heel irritation is a bit of a problem but all in all, a good shoe.

I'm on the second set and will order a third. Had the soles crack on the first set after 2 years of active use...no cracking on the second set after 2 years. Great comfort and will buy again.

Bought this showe for its looks and versatility. It looks great with business casual or with a pair jeans. Took a few wears to break them and the Nike Air didn't provide as much cushioning as I would have thought, but overall a comfortable shoe.

The designers of this shoe really dropped the ball on this one. While the shoe looks very nice and fits very nicely, the sole is poorly designed. This shoe would have performed perfectly with a dual density rubber cushion sole but they opted for a Nike Air sole, which does not suit the shoe at all. First, it isn't flat on the bottom, but curved with little to no padding on the front balls of your feet. The curvature also peaks on the front balls so it makes the minimal rubber there more apparent. From the side the sole looks horrendous and from the other reviews this sole frequently suffers from lateral cracking with minimal use. This is unacceptable and Cole Haan should put more effort into product testing at this price point. I gave this shoe 4 stars for a very nice look, but they need to replace the sole with a cushion rubber one that will not only be more durable but also cheaper than Nike Air, which obviously is not perfected for shoes yet.

I have been wearing the black Santa Barbara's for about 3 years so I got a brown pair and I'm quite happy. Great quality and comfort.

Nice shoe - originally bought it in an 8, but it felt slightly big so I returned it and got a 7.5 which feels more true to size.

I love this shoe. Fell in love with it's versatility and style immediately after I started working men's retail in college. I did have a problem with the sole splitting. However, I believe my problem was completely wearing out the shoe. Absolute favorite of mine!

Not the most comfortable for a long day or for walking! Feet hurt after wearing them for more than 3 hours & not the best for walking!

These shoes look great; however, they are exceptionally uncomfortable. The sole is very hard on the ball of the foot.

Very comfortable shoe. I have had over 6 pairs of this model in burgundy and black. The sole tends to crack on the ball of both feet within about 5 to 6 months. A great shoe while they last but they should last longer than 6 months. On my feet 8 to 10 hours a day. Restaurant Management.

Ordered a pair in my size, but the dimensions are out of whack - the toe box is too wide and the arch is too narrow compared to other shoes I've worn from CH. Also, they look clunky.

These are great shoes all around. However, they have one huge design flaw: the soles do not last for a year's worth of moderate wear. Otherwise they would be five star shoes, especially for the price. I have owned three pairs and they have all lasted about a year before the bottom had cracks all the way through.

I brought these to replace a similar pair of Cole Hahn shoes from 3 years ago. They are not the same. The heel is wide and I am still breaking the shoes in with a blister for my trouble. Also, the picture is deceptive. The rubber comes way up and there is not as much leather as may appear. I think Cole Hahn tried to reduce costs and made a product at the same price point as 3 years ago, but one that doesn't quite measure up to what came before. Still nice looking shoes and I expect to wear them if I can get them broken in, but an initial disappointment.

These are my second pair. I love the way they look and the comfort. The first pair I wore for two years. The sole split after about 9 months, but I ignored it as I loved the shoe-I simply learned not to wear them when it was wet as my feet would get soaked. They finally got so bad that I replaced them in June of 2012. This current pair's soles split after about three months. I love them still, however I won't buy another pair and cannot recommend them wholeheartedly.

Gotta be honest. Sick of looking for decent shoes. When buying through the mail you don't get much of a chance to break them in, so if they don't feel right, send 'em back. That's what I'm doing with these Santa Barbara's. The sole makes them ugly and cheap looking - something I was willing to sacrifice if super comfortable like others said, but when I put them on they felt hard and jarring - no evidence of the Nike Air that's in there, so maybe there's a break in period, maybe not. Not going to muck about wondering - off to better things (hopefully).

I feel taken! I bought these shoes for comfort and quality. It took about two weeks to break them in when other shoes (J&M for instance) have felt great out of the box. But I stuck with them and eventually they "broke in" and fell pretty good. Today I put them on and noticed deep cracks in the sole of the shoes that run under the balls of my feet. These shoes are about 5 months old. Very disappointing Cole Haan! Will likely go back to J&M as they have always had good quality.

Beautiful. The 2E is not really that wide, though, so they are too tight. Feels almost like a negative arch support - like there is a dip where there should be an arch.
