Bought these shorts for a trip to Costa Rica. They have a great fit. Ample pockets that aren't bulky. Why are most women's pants pockets so tiny? These pockets you can actually put your hand in. Store your phone and it won't fall out as soon as you bend down. Thank you! Length is just right, not too short or too long. I'm 5'8", 133 and bought a size 6.

Nice shorts but you better order up 2 sizes if you're older than 40. I ordered an 8 (my bad) -- fit like a 6. I re-ordered a 10, fit like an 8...I'm 5'5", 138-140lb, but everything is dropping south, so...

I bought these shorts for a 3 week trip to Thailand. They are perfect: they dry quickly, the cut is flattering, and the pockets are well engineered. There are 2 angled pockets with velcro in the front, I felt safe with a few things in my pocket wandering around a busy market in Chiang Mai. I washed them in the hotel and hung them outside to dry- they dried fairly quickly. Sometimes shorts have side pockets that pop open or the back gapes and sits away from the body - because they are cut for someone who doesn't have a waist and hips. These shorts fit my waist and my hips and I was very pleased. I was a little nervous they might look matronly or middle aged, but they were great.

Love these shorts. Very flattering! I am 5'5" 152 lbs with a pear shape... you know how hard this is to fit! and they fit! taking them to Disney and then to Africa!

These shorts are great! I like them so much I ordered a second pair. They are extremely comfortable, stylish and true to size. The fabric is lightweight and durable. There is no elastic in the waistband which is a plus in my opinion. Also the pockets are deep enough to actually be useful. Additionally the length is perfect for wearing with a climbing harness. I am very happy with both pair and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality as well as function.

Just what I was looking for! These hardy and versatile shorts definitely earn those five star ratings. Not only are they flattering, just the right length and shape for people with muscular legs and ample hips, but they have pockets galore. Two deep-without-being-bulgy front pockets are fronted by smaller pockets on either side; one with a hook and loop closure and one with a zipper so those vital keys don't get away from you on the river. Nicely deep hook and loop closure pockets are also on the back without creating a weirdly blocky look. And the waist will fit you, whether you have straight sides or are curvy, since there are three positions to cinch up the waist on either side. It may be a little more trouble to do a two-button front closure, but it sure beats annoying drawstrings or front buttons that cause the front of your waistband to stick out under your T-shirt. Kayaking here I come!

Let's get the one negative out of the way first: I'm a size 12 and found these to be just a tad snug. Not a problem because I m going to reorder in a larger size because these shorts rock. They're lightweight, they look super durable, and I love the features! I'm going to be doing some international travel and need secure and light weight shorts. Both back pockets have a Velcro closure that cannot be opened without you knowing about it. Think kids shoes. It's like super Velcro; not only will you feel it if it gets opened but you ll hear it. The back pockets are deep. They're on a slant so 9 at the lowest point and 11 at the highest (high to spine to low leg). The front has two pockets on each side for a total of four front pockets. The upper right and left hand side have a traditional pocket , i.e. slip hand in. These are deep and go the entire length, approximately 9 from lowest point, to the bottom of the hem and are 7 wide. The secondary right hand side lower pocket is another super Velcro closure and the lower left is a zipper with an overflap. No accidental unzipping here. I love that these shorts have double rear button tab adjustability. On either side there is a button on the back of the waistband to tighten the waist size. Love it! Please note that the description refers to hook and loop and what they mean is Velcro. Must have been a copyright issue.

I was surprised at how light weight these shorts are when I wore them for the first time. I wanted shorts that were slimming (no bulky waist band or pockets that stick out). These fit the bill. The soapstone is a nice color (not bright white or too brown) and will go with anything.

Been searching for a comfy sand-colored short with a wider leg opening for some time (although tapered up to the hip - very flattering). These are perfect. However, be sure to size up. I went up one size and found them still too tight, exchanging for another pair, 2 sizes above my size 10! These have no give on them, else I would have stuck with the size 12. Yikes.

Love 'em - just ordered a size too big. Soft, comfy, functional. Reordering and keeping for the larger pair for "those" days.

"Royal Robbins" is my very "fav"orite brand for casual, comfortable, easy care walk around/golf clothes. Have these shorts in khaki & black. Wash & wear so effortlessly, practically dry themselves. Travel seasonally in an RV & the "RR" brand perfect for our casual lifestyle. I'm 5'4", 140 & Size 12 in this style of short perfect for me. Waist band very forgiving, as it has 2 buttons on either side of waist that can be adjusted to loosen, tighten or not button at all. Have been wearing "RR" for several years. When they were made in Bangladesh & Indonesia, their size 10 fit perfect. My last 2 pairs were manufactured in Vietnam, so now size 12 is a truer fit in the shorts. Would also recommend their "skort" (skirt with shorts underneath), with back zip pocket, which I have in black & in an off white. Also comes in a sky blue. Altho in the "skort", which (not to date myself at 61) resembles the "scooter" skirts or "culottes" of the '70s, wear a size 10. And, have worn their longer, slimming skirt with a lower pocket & slight ruffled edge, which is a little dressier in size 10. Their colors are usually soft & muted, which makes 'em easy to pair up with other items in your wardrobe. Only in their slacks (moleskin fabric) it's a more challenging fit. In that item, I'm between a 10-12, so ordered the 12 & I just altered (took in) the hip area, smaller to fit snugger & not so baggy in that side seam. Soft black color & feels like chamois material, lots of pockets & good for cooler weather hikes. Enjoy a great product & super service & product availability from Zappos.

These shorts fit beautifully. The fabric is high quality and perfect for outdoor activities. Highly recommend.

I really like these shorts. I feel they are pretty true to size, travel well- I wore them in 90 degree Mexico heat and they were very comfortable. I wish they came in more colors. I would order a couple pairs.

I absolutely love these shorts! They're slenderizing, comfortable and the perfect length! I wish they had a navy and khaki color. I am buying Royal Robbins pants next! I'm 5'3 and 155lb.

I have every color in this style that I have been able to find over the years. They are the best shorts ever made. I used to wear a size 8 but have lost weight and now the size 2 fits perfectly. My favorite color is the Soapstone. I ordered them one night but you were out of stock and gave me the option of requesting an e-mail if they came in. (This is a fantastic feature of your website. ) I received your e-mail that my size 2 Soapstone Backcountry Short was available, I ordered them, and within 2 days had them and they are perfect.

These are the best shorts I have ever owned. I just bought three pairs because my others wore out and I want to make sure I always have them. They are lightweight but solid. They are quick-dry. They are very functional. I wear them around town and also when I am backpacking. I even swim in them, as I don't like wearing conventional bathing suits and they dry so fast they are perfect. My last couple of pairs I had for years and years.

These shorts are great! Material is light-weight and dries quickly. Lots of pockets and I like the velcro closures so things don't fall out. Have these in 3 colors as they are great for hiking trips.

I bought this pair of shorts in 2 colors hoping it would fit correctly, and it did! I love the look...not too short, very comfortable material and comfortable fit. Even with pockets in front and back it remains very slenderizing. Love these shorts!

Great shorts. Lots of pockets so you can carry keys, phone, essentials as you hike. Comfortable, last a long time--I've had a pair for 6 years and got a second pair because I'm always waiting for them to come out of the wash. You really wouldn't know which is the old and which is the new!

I have this short in several colors and love them. I am returning the khaki ones because they are cut 2" shorter in the rise than my other pairs. They should fit a petite person well.

I love Royal Robbins clothing, and I have not been able to get it where I live (thank God for Zappos). I love the material, the various pockets, and the fit most of all. I worried that I was too old for them, but they look great.

Great shorts for all around wear. They dry quickly and fit is perfect. My last pair still has not worn out! (2009 sat in paint.) I would highly recommend this brand.

These are my favorite shorts. I have two pairs. They are great for travel, being lightweight and quick drying. Length is perfect for me (five feet). I wear them bird watching and hiking. Lots of pockets but not bulking looking. Waist is adjustable.

Great shorts! As a tourist you don't want to carry a purse--it gets lost or in the way when you want to walk or hike around. Lots of deep pockets for everything! Shorts are very light for tropical climates.

These shorts were cute and comfortable for our recent trip to Hawaii. They were flattering on me (5'5'' and 150 pounds, size 10 fit perfectly) and I liked they that dried quickly -- we got caught in a rare pouring rain during a whale watch, but once the sun came out, these dried off very quickly. Nice that there are lots of pockets, too.
