Great for relief of Plantar Fasciitis - I have Plantar Fasciitis and found these are a great hiking/cross-country shoes.

These are hiking shoes, and I expect to wear heavy socks in them...there is enough room to accommodate them. I like them very much.

Shoe did not feel right until I put in my own insoles with arch support. After that they were great. I have a very wide short foot and a narrow heel. The heel also slipped a little, but after hiking on rocky trails in Maine for several miles my feet were still comfortable. No break-in time was needed. I wore them for five days straight with no blisters or issues.

Good shoe for bad feet. I recently have been out of work with an acute case of plantar fasciitis. The tennis shoes I started wearing were New Balance running shoes, with the roll bar, etc., but they are mesh, and will get wet and cold in the fall and winter, so I ordered these, and they will be the perfect fall and winter shoes, and good for hikes also. They also fit orthotics in them without problems! As far as sizing, they are the exact same size and width as my other NB running shoes, but a size larger than a normal dress shoe or sandal.

Very comfortable from start to finish on my first hike. I'd recommend these shoes to anyone -- particularly inexperienced people! I do have a foot problem and needed to add more arch support (broke my foot last year) but the other foot was fine.

Best yet for wide feet! It's really difficult to fit a woman’s 7 EE hiking shoe, but this one does that and more. I wish more manufacturers would make a woman’s double wide hiking shoes! With two pairs of socks, orthotics, etc., the "D" width isn't enough. This was comfortable out of the box. Wish my house slippers were this comfy. Thanks New Balance and Zappos.

Good stuff - I needed a waterproof shoe because I am hiking around in the Tongass National Rainforest in Alaska. This shoe is great. It's very comfortable and took no time at all to break in. There's a rock stop feature so that rocks don't poke into your foot that works great.

Perfection Plus! These shoes are comfortable right out of the box. I am just recovering from foot surgery and I was able to get these shoes on without having to remove the insole. They are very soft and have good support. The styling is nice. Maybe New Balance could offer another color something a little darker but definitely this one is a keeper. Excellent shoe!

I love these shoes - Sturdy and supportive without being too heavy, these are, hands down, the most comfortable hiking shoes I've worn. They were comfortable out of the box with no breaking-in needed. They might be too warm for summer, but for cooler weather--especially in wet or slushy conditions--they are exactly what I've been looking for.

great overall walking shoe - I got the wide in this and my feet have plenty of room. No break in needed. Light, very comfortable. Do not have a clunky look. I love this shoes!

I needed a waterproof boot/shoe for a recent trip to Colorado. Took these out of the box, put them on and wore them for 5 days straight. They were awesome. Did a little hiking and a lot of walking in snow and my feet stayed dry and comfortable. And as usual, ZAPPOS is the BEST!!! The reason for 4 stars for the look of them was because I thought the thin yellow strip on the side made them look a little wider. But I still don't regret buying them! Thanks Zappos!

New Balance WW977 - Finally, after sending back 2 other brands of hikers that were supposed to be wide, these fit! (Bunions are a nuisance!) Room for thick socks and inserts, and my toes are still not cramped. Soles are firm, I think these are keepers!! Thank you ZAPPOS for making this a practically pain free shopping experience.

New Balance WW977 - A really great walking shoe for cool, wet, slightly snowy weather. The length is good, lots of room in the toe box area. Got a double E width, which is what I need, and they are the most comfortable shoes I own. They don't feel at all heavy after wearing them all day.

June - I have a very narrow foot AAAA - AAAAA and this shoe is a bit wide but with a liner gives me the support I need.

Good Shoe - Good shoe for inclement desert winter hiking - light snow and mud. Feet stay nice and dry. Haven't used it in the rain yet, but so far I like it. Have long (11), narrow feet (AAA), long toes, skinny heel and this fits quite well and accommodates orthotics. As usual with New Balance AA width, the laces are way too long and tend to come loose.

After having worn out my second pair of #976 I found NB had changed the model to the #977. Too bad. I absolutely loved the 976 for desert hiking. While the 977 fit my foot well, the new higher collar applied too much pressure on my ankles till I couldn't wait to take them off. Even after removing the shoes my ankles were sore all day long. I tried wearing them a couple times to see if they would get any better, but no luck. I was very disappointed. I haven't been able to find another waterproof low cut walking/hiking type boot as comfy and well made as the 976. Why re-invent the wheel and leave the good ones alone. I wear a 7 medium, have a medium arch and usually have no problem with shoes like I did with this one.

This is the second pair of New Balance WW977 that I’ve owned. I wear them all winter long when walking my dog. Along with good arch support and cushioning, they are warm enough (with a pair of wool socks) to take me comfortably through our 60 (at a minimum) minute walks. Add to that Zappos’ great service and free returns -- you can’t go wrong with these shoes. I ordered these shoes 1/2 size larger than normal as they are a little on the short side.

I usually wear and 8 1/2 or 9 Wide and ordered 9 Wide and they were too small. I really liked the shoe so I returned it for a 9 1/2 Wide and the length was right, but it really wasn’t as wide as I expected. I took them to a shoe repair shop and had them stretched for width and it helped. I then stretched them myself, wearing them with the stretching liquid the shoe repair shop suggested and they are significantly better. The height is very comfortable and they are breaking in very well. It’s a really good sturdy shoe and they will get a good test on my trip to Patagonia.

Just received this shoe; only wearing inside until I can make up my mind to keep or return. The ankle area is very stiff and uncomfortable. I don\'t know if it can be broken in or not. Maybe a heavier sock will help. Arch support is barely adequate for my liking. Other than that, the shoe seems pretty comfortable.

These fit wonderfully, except around my ankle. The top of the shoe is rather high and hit my ankle bone in a very painful way every time I moved. If the collar was a little higher or lower it would have worked.

Inconsistent Sizing between Colors - I ordered a pair of these hiking shoes last year in an 8 D width in the two-tone "Walnut Brown" color. That pair fit great with no break-in time. I decided that since I wear them so much I needed to order another pair to replace them. I was disappointed that Zappos didn't have the same color, but I love the comfort & fit so much that I choose the Brown GTX and ordered the same size. To my surprise, the new ones are at least a half size smaller. Very confusing how a well-known company like New Balance could have inconsistency between the same style shoe with the only difference being the color. As always, Zappos offers such great customer service that I know when I order from them that making a return is quick & easy. The only hassle with returning items to Zappos is finding time to take the shoes to the Post Office to mail them.

Nice shoe - I was looking for a shoe to take on a trip to England so waterproofing and comfort are essential. Initially, I found the high collar quite uncomfortable. I wore them with lambswool in my socks and after a few days where they have broken in nicely and I don't need any extra padding. I haven't been to England yet and haven't worn them in a really hard rain, but they are certainly comfortable for a full day of errands. I always wear a half-size larger in New Balance and I appreciate that they come in wider widths. You really need to try them on because different styles in the same size/width fit very differently.

New BalanceWW977-frances - Excellent shoe. It is a little narrow but as I ordered them to wear with big socks it is fine. Especially like the light weight quality.
