These were really comfortable and nice quality. I'm returning them because they hit my calf at an unflattering point. They needed to be about 2" higher to work for me. I'm 5' 7".

I'm a 7.5 normally. So after reading reviews, I ordered my true size. However, I could barely get my feet in them (I have high arches), even with the plastic bag trick and silk socks. So I returned and got the 8. I still struggled to get these on the first 8 times, but eventually did. They are very comfortable and I love them. I get lots of compliments and for the money, I'd say are one of the most versatile boots I have. I wear them up and buckled, and I fold the top over sometimes for a more casual look with sweatshirts. I can't wait to break these babies in more so they look like authentic Sh!# Kickers.

Great boots by Frye (aren't they always) - I can't wait to have these in my wardrobe for this fall/winter (and many more after that)! I ordered these 3 times to try to find the right color (there were more options than I needed, but that indicated what a great boot these were). The Black Calf Shine Vintage was a stiffer leather, with a vintage gray color. They were cute, but I didn't love the white stitching at the sole. So I tried the Black Vintage Tumbled Full Grain. The leather was softer, the color more "true black" - but the soles were the smoother tread, with the leather heel (I like more traction). Strangely the Black Soft Vintage boots had a rubber sole and heel, that was more comfortable and had more grip. That was the deciding factor - the Soft Vintage leather is much much softer, but I'm sure the Tumbled would feel that way in no time. I saw some reviews that said they hit at an unflattering spot on the calves - I totally disagree. I'm 5'8 and I think it's a nice change from high knee boots, especially with jeans or longer skirts. Love them already!

I love these boots even more now than when I first got them. These are quality, thick-leather, last-a-lifetime-if-you-take-care-of-them boots. I've had them for 3 years now, and just replaced the heels and gave them a fresh polishing. I also love the lug-sole and weight of these boots; and find myself reaching for them on heavy-rain days as well as slushy/snowy days. I find them to be true to size, but I also wear thicker wool socks with them.

Oh-la-la! Love these boots, yet still returning them. I ordered the Stone Stone Wash and hoped to get a similar wash to that showed in the Zappos picture (after all Zappos re-photographs all their shoes) but they actually look more like the picture on the Frye website, more natural color less Stone. I was really looking for a stone color boot with a little natural leather. This was the opposite. But they fit like a glove (after wiggling into them) and were comfortable right out of the box. Beautiful distressed patina and very well made as all my Frye's are. So I'm returning them for Grey and a matching Hobo. Shhhh, don't tell my husband!

Had to return because of flapping noise it made against my calf in tights when I walked. I have average calf width and couln't make it tight enough to stop the noise. Gorgeous and great quality though. I tried hard to make myself keep them.

Cute, comfortable, thought I was going to love them. A little too slouchy. So I was worried about a month or so down the line. And this color was distressed in such a way that it turns my hands dirty black, just in the 2 minutes of putting 1 on and making the adjustments to see if I liked them. I didn't want to risk getting other things dirty. Oh well!

Ordered a dark brown vintage boot. I simply could not get my feet into them. I notice another review with the same complaint. Suspect that there may be a fault in how they were constructed around the vamp. Hope that Zappos will check it. Plan to try this model out in a different color, as the boot itself is lovely.

I am only writing this review because there are 666 reviews, and I can't stand that number. So this will make it 667... But I tried on the Melissa boot at Nordstrom the other day, and it was beautiful. I found myself looking at other frye books, and this one looks even better than the Melissa. All of their boots are made with buttery soft leather, and they look and feel like they'll last a lifetime. I'm definitely adding this to my wish list.

I love these boots! They fit well. They are super comfortable! I can walk all day in these boots! Plus they look great, too. I did measure my calves and ordered the larger size and the shafts fit great. They were a bit snug the first day, but after that, they were perfect!

I am a Frye fanatic. I love Frye boots and live in them during the winter months in Utah. I own several pairs in various colors that I have acquired over time. I am a big fan of the Carson line of Frye and usually buy some iteration of them. This is the first time I have stepped out (no pun intended) and bought a different style. I have to say, I love these boots. Normally I wear an 8 in Frye's. Based on other reviews, I sized up to an 8.5 and glad I did. These are a bit snug at first in the toe box, but walking around in them, they have stretched to fit very comfortably with medium weight wool Smartwool socks. These boots are exquisite in their comfort and workmanship. The slouch is mild, but the profile they give one's legs is outstanding. I highly recommend this beautiful boot.

I order this boots in size 7 (my normal size is 6 1/2). I can not get my feet into the boots. I really love the material of the boots. I had to sent back the boots.

Let me give you stats about myself. Am 5 ft, 180 lbs. Because I am overweight, my calves are wider. I am normally a size 8 but have bone spurs on big toe so I am most comfortable in a wider toe box. After reading the reviews, I ordered 8 1/2. It is roomy in the toe box and very loose in the ankle. However, the shoe is kept in place after hugging my calves. My foot des not slide around in it because of the calf. I cannot fit a skinny jean inside but a legging would work. The toe box is stiff but that doesn't bother me because it is loose there. The color is very dark brown, almost black. It truly looks like a high quality boot. I can see why people would complain about the stiffness. With that said, the boot is getting looser by wearing it in the house. Patience would be key for a perfect fit. I am going to keep it. Hope this helps.

They fit! I didn't even have to get the wide calf. My calves are exactly 15 inches. All the other boots were too tight. These are comfortable and can be dressed up or down. My first pair of Frye boots. Can't wait to wear them.

I love these boots. They are incredibly comfortable. The leather is soft and smells wonderful. They look great with shirts, dresses or over skinny jeans. The burnished taupe is a gorgeous color for fall/spring/summer wardrobe colors. The fit is true to size. I wear an 8 in all my shoes, Ara's, Fit flops, Clark's, Aerosoles and Frye. This boot is a small 8, it fits with a thin sock and feels snug with a gym sock. I also have Carson's, Vera Slouch's, Jane Strappy's and Lucinda's. In those styles, I am also an 8 but can wear an athletic sock. So keep that in mind when deciding on size. Not that it matters though, ordering on Zappos allows you to try 2 sizes and send one back! I also have the Veronica back zip. But I think I like these a little more. My calf is a 15" and I have no problem getting this boot over jeans. You will feel like a million dollars in these boots!

I have this boot in the dark brown color and they are awesome. They are my first pair of Fryes. It took a bit to break them in, but now they are molded to my foot. I have a narrow heal and wide foot in the front and they fit perfect. Would buy more if I could afford them!

Comfortable boot with enough room for winter socks. I wear a 10.5, but I always buy a 10 and they fit perfectly. The rounder toe of this style allows for more room. What I really like about this boot as opposed to other Frye's is the rubber sole. This type of sole gives you more grip and you don't have that slippage or sliding around like you do with the Melissa style. This style is definitely more sturdy and solid. I also like that the shaft of the boot is more flexible and the buckle on the side can be adjusted to give you more room or make the boot more slouchy. It definitely has a tougher look stylistically as well if you are looking for something with a distressed or biker-chic edge.

Love these! They are the most comfortable shoes I've owned. Snug at first...but as I wore them, they softened and loosened up a bit.

Note Zappos did a great job with this order, my issues pertain to the quality of the boots themselves. I am a long-time loyal Frye customer. I have 3 pairs of woman's Frye boots that I have diligently cared for, (replacing soles when necessary) in exchange for years of long comfortable wear; the Calvary, the Harness and a vintage pair of the Campus. After returning a pair of Martina engineer's for being at least 1 size too small, I ordered these, the Veronica slouch. These were also rather tight in the right foot (I even went up to an 8.5 this time), and the finish is awful. I ordered the black full-grain leather and it looks like the toe boxes were violently distressed with a wire brush. Also the streaking of the dye on the legs seemed like a defect. (I contacted Frye, they suspect so as well). The buckle at the top of the calf was extremely flimsy and a different color than the buckle at the bottom. The leather of the top strap was poorly sewn and beginning to separate, right out of the box. I am undecided about trying again. All of my other Frye's are made in the US, I'm wondering if that is the difference that is causing me such problems-- other people don't seem to be having problems, perhaps I am expecting a different manufacturing standard based on my past purchases. According to Frye The harness, engineer and Calvary styles are part of their 'core' product line, and all manufactured in the US.

Okay, my wide-calf sisters! I've been drooling over Veronicas for well over a year now, but could never find any concrete reviews as to whether these would fit my 17-inch gams. Well, I finally finally finally decided to take the plunge and purchased these in the Stone Stonewashed color. And they are on my feet right this minute. They fit just fine over leggings, and also over not-quite-skinny-legged jeans. They even do that cute roll-over thing that I've seen photos of stars doing. ;) Hooray! Now, I am about 5'8", and have long legs. The boots only reach to about 4.5" below the bottom of my kneecaps--so they aren't actually tall enough to make it all the way to the widest point of my calves. But they look great, no "calf muffin top," as I've heard it so eloquently put! The shaft measurement on the size 10 appears to be about 16.5". I should note, I did actually try on the zip-back Veronica Slouch in a department store recently, and they were a total no-go. The shafts are definitely slimmer on those. My only question now is whether I should keep this color or trade it in for another, more wearable-everyday color. But I'm so glad I finally got the courage to order these! You should, too! They're freaking beautiful!

Love these boots! They are very true to size and I love the color. The only drawback to the color that I bought is that I would like them to stay that color. They appear to have a chalky residue on them to make them that color but as you wear them, it comes off. I actually bought them because of the color and I am disappointed that it rubs off over time. Other than this though...I love the boots and they are very comfy!
