I had a problem with this boot slipping in the heel. I am a true 7, and rarely do i stray left or right of a 7 size shoe. I own another pair of fry boots in size 7 and they fit like a glove. I walked around in them quite a bit in the house thinking maybe it would not be a big deal, but at last came to the conclusion paying $239 for a pair of boots that don't exactly fit quite right, and keeping them, is crazy. So, im returning them. The upper boot is a real soft leather. The boot shaft is limp, doesnt stand up straight without support. The shaft has a pebbled look to it. Beautiful leather. The size of the calf fit me just right, and it will slouch down if you push them. The shoe of the boot is leather as well, but smooth. The buckle that you see that goes across the top of foot/ankle area is actually functional and you can make that tighter. I tried to make it tight enough so my heel would not slip, but it only helped a little. The foot bed is padded and comfortable. o ordered the brown and it is as pictured.

I've been trying to find a boot for all-around country life, motorcycles, horses etc, and though these boots were lovely and fit well, the slouch is too slouchy. I'll be looking at others of this brand because it does seem solidly built.

These are very nice boots, but not my favorite Frye boots, and I have several pair. Seems the US made boots are of superior quality. The Veronica is more of a fashion boot to me, while the Engineers are good tough boots but so stylish and cool. The Veronica did not require any break in time for me, but in the long run have proved to not be as comfortable as the Engineers, either the 12 or the 15 inch.

It is Frye so of course excellent quality. Leather on the vintage soft is yummy. Only complaint is the calf bulges out too far. I kept the boot but if you have a very thin calf you may not like it. Otherwise very great boots.

I purchased these boots on line and they are adorable. I got the size 7 which is what a normally wear in Frye's. Unfortunately, these had to be returned because I barely got my foot into them (and then out of them). I have a high instep and although it's never been a problem before, these boots seem to run a little small and narrow at the bottom of the shaft which made it nearly impossible for me to bend my foot in half to get them on and with only knee high panty hose on, let alone a sock or something heavier. I liked them well enough to have exchanged for a 7.5 or 8 but they were not available in those sizes.

Purchased these on line in size 7 which is my normal size in Frye boots but couldn't get my foot into them. I do not have an issue with a high arch but no amount of pushing pulling or wiggling could get my foot down into the boot past the shaft. Broke my heart, they were adorable but didn't fit. Never exchanged to see if a 7.5 would do the trick but beware, if you have any type of high arch, size up accordingly.

I really liked these boots. I wear a 7.5 and ordered the same. They fit, are a bit snug in the toes, but the heal slips a bit too much. I have a pair of Phillip Harness in a 7.5 and ABSOLUTELY love them. I was hoping these would work so that I did not have to pony up the funds for a different pair (these were on sale) but they just did not work.

I am consistently a size 8, but in the Veronica Slouch Tall I am an 8.5. They do loosen up a bit with wear, but I'd rather add an insole at that time (if needed) than endure the painful break in period (the toe box is very snug in an 8 for me, to the point my toes cramped and I could no longer walk and had to remove the shoes and exchange them.) Anyway, half size bigger works for me. I bought the chocolate vintage and they are kind of shiny, which took me by surprise, but they grow on you. They distress very easily, in fact the first pair I received from zappos had a pretty serious scrap on them, presumably from someone digging their nails into the shaft to get the boot on. Zappos shipped me a replacement. The replacement had much less wear and no damaged area. These boots look like they are very old, which is what I wanted. If you want a shiny, sparkly, brand new boot, this is not the boot color for you (chocolate vintage). They crease and mark very easily and look very cool with jeans. Thanks Zappos! (I also have the Black full grain - which do look shiny and new - and I am wishing they were a tad more rugged).

This was my first Zappos purchase. I LOVE the style of the boots, loved the color, very casual and a rich, rugged brown. Tried them on and they were a little snug, but I knew they would stretch with wear. As I wore them, the left boot got more comfortable, but the right boot did not. It felt like it was made wrong. I called up Zappos and they said no problem, send 'em back! Even after I told them I didn't have the original box and had worn them 3 or 4 times already. They over-nighted me a replacement. When I got the replacement, the color of the new pair was nothing like the original pair. The new pair was a dull, faded color that wasn't very pretty and I had the same problem with the right boot. It felt a size too small (hence, the 2 star rating for comfort). Unfortunately, I'm sending both pair back, but I did order a size larger in a color that isn't antiqued... Hopefully, I'll be keeping those when they come. So, to make a long review short, don't expect any consistency with color on an antiqued color and if you are on the fence about what size, try a half size up. The quality of the boot is great and Zappos customer service is awesome, however!

I am only writing this review because there are 666 reviews, and I can't stand that number. So this will make it 667... But I tried on the Melissa boot at Nordstrom the other day, and it was beautiful. I found myself looking at other frye books, and this one looks even better than the Melissa. All of their boots are made with buttery soft leather, and they look and feel like they'll last a lifetime. I'm definitely adding this to my wish list.

This boot is very stylish. I love the color and style; they look great with pants or skirts. I do wish the shaft was about 1/2 inch shorter (because I'm short) and that the buckle didn't jingle so much when you walk.

After going through 4 different colors of this boot, I was finally satisfied with the black tumble-grain. It is a true black and looks rugged. The black calf-shine is definitely grey and it did not look right to me. It was just a weird color. I really wanted to like the dark brown but the pair that I got had a weird coloration on one of the boots so it looked really awkward. These boots are pretty comfortable. I am still in the breaking in period and I do have a lot of heel slip. I don't think a smaller size would solve this issue so I am waiting for them to fully break in. The first day that I wore them, I walked 4 miles in them so it is definitely comfortable to wear out of the box. My only worry is that the boot is going to start slouching very quickly since it is pretty thin on the shaft. I hope it stays relatively stiff for a long time. If I had to remake the boot, I would give it a stronger shaft that stays up. Hopefully they will make a non-slouch version soon!

These are truly amazing boots. I ordered them in the Burnt Red Vintage Tumbled Full Grain and the color is beautiful...a really deep reddish brown. The leather is soft with just the right amount of slouch. I wear a size 11, have an extremely flat and wide foot, and pronate like crazy. I ordered the size 11B and they actually fit and felt good. If I was keeping them, I'd probably put in some insoles for a little motion control to help keep me from pronating. Unfortunately for me, I have bigger calves and these hit right in the widest part, and I didn't feel they were very flattering because of that. At least it made me feel self-conscious, and for the price of these boots I want to love them with no reservations. So, thanks to Zappos and their unparalleled customer service, these are going back. I'm going to take a look at the Veronica Shorties instead.

I usually wear a size 9 in shoes, but almost always size up in boots in order to wear thick socks. I got these originally in a size 10 in the Dark Brown Calf Shine Vintage Leather. The first pair was missing a buckle and immediately went back. Zappos amazing customer service sent out a new pair that I received the very next day. After wearing them around the house, I noticed that my heel was slipping quite a bit and I wasn't very excited about the color. It was a bit too dull and didn't stand out against my jeans and tights. Also knowing Frye Boots pretty well, I had a feeling that once broken in, I would be flopping around in them in no time at all. I have made that expensive mistake before with a pair of Frye. So once again, Zappos amazing customer service sent out a new pair in a 9.5 and in the Cognac Stone Antiqued. These were a bit of a struggle to get on at first, but I know they will mold to my foot beautifully in no time at all. The color is amazing, they look like I have had them forever and they look great against both dark and light denim. I know I will be wearing them for years to come! Oh and for you athletic calved girls, these are a great fit on my 15.5 inch calves and I have no problem getting my skinny jeans in these.

As much as others obviously love this boot, it wasn't quite what I was looking for. First off, I ordered the dark brown vintage tumbled full grain, and it is a lovely color and texture. However, the style was slouchier than I thought it would be. This is partly due to the softness of the leather, and partly because my calves are on the slim side (14") so these were too wide in the calf. In fact, the "bumped-out" part of the calf (see photo from side) looked downright silly on my leg. I wear 9-1/2 in many brands but almost always 9 in Fryes; I ordered these in 9 and they fit pretty well in the foot, maybe still just a bit roomy and my heel slipped a little. I'm sending them back and still searching for my perfect boot.

LOVE this boot! This is my first pair of Fryes, and although the boot is slightly uncomfortable in my right toe area, I am keeping them because I have searched for that perfect combination of casual yet refined in a boot for so long. Love the look, the leather is wonderful to the touch, and they are just sassy and classy at the same time. They are stiff in the toe bed and difficult to get on the first couple of times, but they do stretch just enough- except for the toe bed of my right boot-hoping it will give over timesaver well.

I was worried about ordering the regular width instead of the extended calf size (in size 9) because my calves are approx 16" around. the regular actually fit my large calves, with slouching really only happening around the lower portion and ankle. that was fine with me. However, the width of the actual boot shoe itself is far too narrow, and I ordered a 9 instead of an 8.5 because my feet are a little the wider side! I got them into the boots easily enough wearing tights (no plastic bag required for me), but they were so loose around the ankle & strangling the blades of my feet. like, too tight to even try to break in. the length from heel to toe was comfortable and felt closer to my normal 8.5 than other 9s I sometimes wear. The height of the shaft was medium, about 3-4 inches below my knee. My legs are pretty short for my 5'5" frame, with a 29" inseam. Sadly, these are going back for a different pair of boots with a wider foot and rounder toe...if I can find any.

I love these boots. I really didn't want to spend this much money, but I realized that I would have these for years and years! I'm a short gal with athletic calves and I wanted a boot that would fit and look good. These boots are gorgeous leather and fit nicely. They're a little casual, so if you're looking for something fancy, they may not be the perfect boots. All in all, a great purchase. And, of course, Zappos service ROCKS!

I think I'm keeping them. For the money, I'd prefer to say I'm keeping them! But here's where we are. I'm 5'11", wear a size 11. The boot feels like a good fit, and I know it will stretch a little. The problem is, the curve of the boot shaft hits well below where the curve of my calf is. It looks a little funny. I can tighten the top buckle, but that only makes it worse. There's plenty of room in the calf for me, maybe a little too much. I compared them with the Frye campus boot, but I wear a lot of men's boots and I'm looking for something a little lighter. So this will be it, I think. The leather quality is nice. the toe is nondescript. Overall, the boot is a nice balance between attitude and understatement. I wish they were a little more butch, a little taller, a little slimmer. but they're close. There's not much arch support, but I have high arches. I'll try some kind of insert. The only real concern is that I think they're more ideal on a shorter person, or and/or someone with larger and differently proportioned calves.

Beautiful. I was in love with these boots for about a year and a half before I made the splurge and bought a pair for myself. When I got them, the heels rubbed pretty badly, but now that they're broken in, it's fine. I was concerned about these fitting since I have pretty wide calves for my height (5'3"), but they fit fine in the regular (non-extended calf) size. One thing I had an issue with is that they scuff very easily compared to other (cheaper) boots I've owned.

These are beautiful, tough-looking boots, but they run at least a half size small -- maybe more. I expect a new pull-on boot to feel snug -- that's normal, and with wear they conform to your feet. But this boot is short in the footbed. I normally wear size 8.5, and in that size (with only a thin sock on), my toe was hitting the end of the boot. I know I'm in the minority, but I advise sizing up.

Okay, I believe in starting with the bad news so here it is: The subject of manufacture quality has come up at least a few times...I agree. I purchased the "black calf shine" and there does seem to be some poorly done stitching and leather bonding in certain areas. Now mind you, if the boots weren't over my budget, this might not be an issue. I will say however that because the coloring is purposely "vintage", I highly doubt anyone will ever notice. Another issue is that while yes, the design name says "slouch", the leather sags much more than the picture would ever indicate. If this is what your looking for, a truly "slouchy" type boot without the stiff lining, this boot is a match. Now on to the good stuff... Good news: I'm 5'6", 135lbs and 14.5" where the shaft hits. As I mentioned before, the boot shaft is unlined and so it WILL sag as was the purpose of a slouch boot. Don't let the picture fool you. My feet are a comfortable 9.5 usually considered a narrow foot with a low arch. Fact: the 9.5 is a perfect fit! After marching around the house from shorts to skinny jeans (while wearing light dress socks underneath) the boots will not require "break in" time. Since I have somewhat of chicken legs (lol), there's no way I'd recommend with the type of slouching already going on purchasing the wider boot. For those of you with similar measurements, this boot will fit fine with jeans under, over, tights, leg warmers and concealed weapons. Just kidding. ;) Seriously though, great fit, very soft leather, vintage coloring is a plus and they are FRYE'S! What else might you be looking for? Oh yeah, back to the quality...Look at it this way, you know they're designer mixed with function boots. Frye's is a reputable and recognized brand and I admit that part of willing to pay the price of these boots includes the brand name. If you don't like them enough, return them and move on. If you do like them, by reading over 500 reviews and previously owning pairs (like me) you'll know they last forever... Good luck!

When I first got these boots, I was crushed because I almost couldn't get my feet (and high arches) in them, and then when I finally did, the vamp was so tight over my arches that my toes started losing feeling. But, this story has a happy ending. After 2 wearings the boots have stretched enough on their own to make on/off less of a chore, and with the help of a hairdryer, I was able to stretch out the vamps enough to make them comfortable. Bandaids are still necessary on the heels to prevent blisters, but the leather is still so new that's to be expected. Moral of story: if you have high arches, don't write off these beautiful boots even if they don't seem like they'll fit at first!
