Awesome boot for cruising my Harley Davidson Softail. Lightweight, waterproof, and warm without making my feet sweat! Looks cool and nothing fancy, just does what it's supposed to. It fits comfortably!

This is the best boot I have ever owned! It is so comfortable. I use it as a work boot. If water gets on top it you will feel it, but as long as you step in something that does not wet the laces and thereby get the tongue wet, you are dry.\r\n I am an over pronator or flat footed and need allot of arch support. This bot does the trick. Its great as long as you are wadding through puddles or a creek. Mud and stuff wash right off fine. I love this boot!

Overall these boots are comfortable, warm, and the waterproofing has been impressive over these past snowy weeks. The sole at the heel has quite big lugs, and felt a little clunky to me at first (I'm in urban environment), but I'm used to it now and they feel pretty good.

I’m on my second pair of Altitudes. I only got rid of the first pair because my feet went through a "growth spurt" and the boot no longer fit. For the money I don’t think Hi-Tec can be beat. I mainly use my boots for off-trail hikes (bushwhacking) and am pleased with their durability. There are, however, some construction issues: 1. the tongue is not fully gusseted so water above the first four lace eyelets will find its way into your boot; 2. The rand on both pairs that I have owned separated. It’s an approximate 1/8 inch separation especially where the boot flexes. It won’t affect the performance of the boot - just looks cheap - and is easily fixed with McNett; and 3. For short hikes this boot is very comfortable (I have never had a blister in ten plus years of hiking) but a recent longer, hot, hot weather hike in Tennessee made my feet hurt so much I coulldn’t walk the next day. Not really much of an issue for me as my hikes are less than ten miles but don’t expect to be able to through hike the AT with these.

Good boots. A bit stiff, but I probably need to wear them in a bit. The hooks at the top are good, they don't seem to snag on the bottoms of my pants like other boots sometimes do.

I've walked 30-40 miles in these since I bought them six weeks ago. Comfortable, easy on-off, and my usual size 10D fit as expected. Good value. NOT waterproof. Had to give them several coats of Nubuck waterproofing in order to stay dry in the rain.

Great bargain for light hiker -
Although these are not the most comfortable hikers I've owned they are definitely worth the price. They take very little time to break in. This is the second pair of Hi-Tecs I've owned and I think this is a quality brand for the price.

Hi-Tec's Altitude IV -
I bought these boots as a replacement for my Vasque, Gore-Tex XCR hiking boots (I've had for 6 years). They are not better but they are a well built boot. A little stiff for the first few days but now are broke in. I walk 1 1/2 miles in the evening to take my dog for a walk every day! I do like them and recommend them if you have all kinds of weather to deal with. I live in southern Germany so you need good all weather boots.

Great value and performance -
I put them on new and went on a strenuous 7-mile hike, with a good varied terrain. They seemed to conform to my foot better as the hike went on. No blisters, no hot spots, as I feared might happen. All in all, a very easy and comfortable break in. Toward the end I was feeling some fatigue on the very bottom of my foot. The padded insole is a bit thin. However a quick review of my closet revealed that the liner in this boot is pretty standard as shoes go; not much padding comes standard. I had an old pair of deck shoes with a thick insole, and I swapped it out - I think that will fix it. For that reason, I give these boots a 4 on comfort. I'm still very pleased, however.

It's an inexpensive hiking boot.
Fit is fine but form factor is bulky and does not have much give.

I had two pairs of these boots. On both pairs the soles came off after two years due to glue problems. They also they had no arch support. I bought a good insole. Having said that they were comfortable hiking shoes.

These are narrowly made, even the WW version. I tried going up a 1/2 size, still not good. They are good looking otherwise, but too narrow for a wider foot.

Good looking and comfortable boot. However, the tread and the sole wore straight through after only twelve months. I am 180 lbs and did not wear them for anything but casual, daily wear. So I was disappointed with this boot, as the last pair of Hi-Tecs I'd purchased lasted me eight years.

This shoe has nice arch support and is very well cushioned. It\'s pleasant to walk in and has a nice and tall toe box. However, the toe box is also very pointed and after wearing the shoe for a while my little toes start to feel crowded. Also, I should note that I am wearing this shoe in a wide size when I usually buy normal with shoes.

Good but a bit heavy...
I like these but they are a bit heavy on the weight side. They are used for snowshoeing and I will see how long they stand up.

I got the same shoe(Altitude IV) about 5 years ago, and they have been awesome. I've loved them, and used the older ones doing farm work, yard work, hiking, and daily wear.
The new ones look as good as the previous version. But, I think the new ones are lacking as compared to the original Altitude IV shoes.
* The only way I was able to identify the old(previous shoe) version is the label sown into the inside of the tongue of my old shoe still showed "Altitude IV 9W by Hi-Tec". But bad news folks. The new shoe does NOT have any identifying information that the shoe model information. So, in 4-5 years when I want a replacement, I won't know the model, because it's not identified anywhere on the shoe.
Summary: Seems like Hi-Tec has slipped back in their quality based on the item mentioned above.
Hope the shoe wears and feels as good as the previous version.

I purchased a pair of Hi-Tec shoes and these boots at the same time. The shoes fit perfectly and felt great. I really can’t say how the boots would have felt for the ones I received were way too small for me. I am a 7 ½ and when the boots arrived I couldn’t get my foot all the way in. I tried an 8 but my toes still bunched up against the front of the boot. Rather than go through a continual process of upsizing I had to bail on getting this particular boot.
After reading all the glowing reviews and being happy with their other product I am left thinking that perhaps I just received a pair of their Altitude IV boot manufactured in a different country from their other shoes; and possibly different from the boots that everyone else here reviewed.
I am very thankful for Zappos highly responsive returns department and will have to try a different brand.

Out of three boots I purchased, I chose to keep these and send the others back. They felt good on the feet and didn't have that terrible problem of having a hard spot on the heel.
So it says it's waterproof but in reality it isn't. After wearing these for a short while (not even a half a year) I found that water and especially slushy snow would just soak right through these. Because water was able to so easily penetrate these boots they became more and more damaged on the inside. As in, the adhesive keeping the rubber treads to the rest of the boot became deteriorated. Eventually, the seal between the leather and the treads became loosened and an opening formed at the toes. This allowed water to get in and as of a few weeks ago, my boot officially talks and acts more as a scoop for water and snow as I walk. These didn't even last a year. Granted, I wear them everyday but the fact that they were so easily susceptible to water makes me feel that the failure of my boots is at least 50% a result of their quality.
Hikers, please don't get this boot. It's a waste of time. Go for gortex or any other synthetic material if you truly want a waterproof boot. Leather tends to dry up and become seemingly useless without constant care and maintenance.

If you hike on a dirt trail, then Hi-Tec Altitude IV is okay. If hiking off trail or rocky the tread tears and wears fast. They are not recommended. Hi-Tec needs to produce a better wearing sole.

The toes seemed pointier than what it looks like online.
One of the tongues folded quite nicely under the laces, the other one didn't fold and so they looked odd next to each other.
They didn't fit quite right, either. Maybe too wide, but I dare not go narrower than D.
Just not real impressed.

These boots look pretty good but that’s where it ended. Not very comfortable from the beginning and after about 4 months the entire right sole separated from the boot. I wore these for work boots and I’ll never buy them again. You truly get what you pay for.

I have been wearing these Hi Tec boots for over ten years everyday, for work, play and hiking. Sad to say the latest ones are NOT the same. My feet are the same but these boots are not the same, much smaller with a tight toe box. Why was I not surprised to see they are now made in China? Previously they were made in Indonesia. Sadly I will no longer be wearing what were my favorite boots.

Hiking Boot -
I wear an 8 EE in women's and could not find any hiking boot wide enough. Fortunately, Zappos had a small enough men's boot. Thank you!
