Great for work - I purchased these boots for my husband in hopes that they would be a comfortable shoe for his job. He is a self employed carpenter. He put these on Christmas morning to try and has used them every day since. He usually has to buy a size 11 to fit, but I bought a 10 1/2 wide and he is very happy. Not once has he complained of foot or leg pain since starting to wear these shoes. I will definitely buy him more of this brand.

Sweet!!! I know it's stupid but I broke in these shoes at the Napali Coast hike which is a treacherous 11-mile mud-cliffs-mountains-different elevations-rocks-&-roots hike. But Hi-Tec's Altitude IV did well overall. My feet were naturally aching but it felt much better when I used a pair of special hiking socks on the halfway point. They definitely keep your feet dry in the rain and mud puddles.

Good boot - I bought these boots for my husband for Christmas. He wanted a good winter boot and also wanted something that looked nice too. This boot accomplished both. He put them on the day after Christmas and has worn them everyday since. I ordered them at night one day and had them at my door 24 hours later. Not bad...definitely order from Zappos again!!!

Great boots - I have had two consecutive pairs of these boots which have lasted me a total of almost 5 years. I work as a landscaper and they were better than any boots I ever owned. I walk quite a bit on a daily basis and they withstood the test of time. They also serve as my winter boots. My feet stay dry and warm.

Great Boot. This is the most comfortable hiking boot I have owned. The sole is firm enough that you don't feel every pebble/root on the trail but flexible enough to feel like a running shoe. I wore them around the house for two days before my first hike and that was all the break in they needed. Since then, I have worn them to cover seventy or eighty miles of trail and they have held up well. My only complaint is that the cushion insert has worn down rather quickly. It is still very comfortable, but I am not sure how long it will be before I need to look for new inserts.

Great boots! Very well made boots. I wear them daily and walk a lot (college student) and these boots are a month into their second year. The soles are worn flat and the soles are just starting to separate from the edge of the leather. I'm here to buy my second pair.

This is a great boot!!! I just received this boot and Zappos’ overnight shipping is great!!! I also called and the salesman was excellent and his advice was right on!! He deserves a raise in salary!! Since I always appreciate Customer Reviews, here is mine: The boot is amazingly comfortable; it looks great in the brown; like a combination between leather and softer suede, really nice. Rugged yet not sloppy. I ordered a 1/2 size larger so I could easily wear thick warm socks and put in orthodics or other supports and it is perfect. Feels soft yet very supportive. Waterproof and tall enough to support my ankles too. Other writers were correct... no break-in needed. I wanted brown, but I would think the black is also great looking, if that is what you want. I recommend this boot 100%.

Very comfortable Great boot boyfriend loves them - My boyfriend has wide feet. The 11.5 EE fit him perfectly. He loves the fit and says his feet feel great. He's had a hard time finding shoes/boots to fit his feet.

Comfortable all day boot! I am on my feet 10-14 hours a day in a warehouse with a concrete floor. These boots are lightweight and comfortable from the start. If you try them on in a store with a variety of other boots you will truly notice how comfortable they feel immediately compared to all others. After a month or so you will need to replace the insoles. I recommend 'superfeet'. I go through one pair a winter. I am about to get my 3rd pair.

Great comfort and looks - I had never heard of Hi-Tec boots let alone the Altitude IV until I stumbled onto them at Zappos. Easily the best boot I have owned. I just ordered a second pair so I can have one for outdoor leisure activities and use the other at work. All this comfort combined with the great look of the Chocolate Brown makes a 5 star boot.

Bought these for a ten day trip hiking in AZ and New Mexico. Great looking (works nicely for dressier dinner venues) but more importantly, incredibly comfortable and solid, reliable feel out in the field. I'm seriously contemplating a second pair.

The quest for the perfect work shoes is finally over..... A truly FANTASTIC boot!!! I can't say enough good things about it. I am on my feet all day at work and have been on that "never-ending search/quest" for the perfect work shoe for what seems like forever. I've finally found it!!! I have had ankle problems for years and for the first time in many, many, many years I feel strong, sure, and comfortable on my feet, everyday (I've been wearing them now everyday for over 3 months). I have ordered another pair for fear that when I do need another pair someday, I may not be able to find them anywhere. How that could happen with such a great boot, I don't know, but better safe then sorry later. Thank you Zappos, for carrying this boot!!!

This boot Rocks!!! I had wanted to buy these boots for a while. I pulled them out of the box and was extremely satisfied. They are extremely comfortable and look great. The chocolate brown color is awesome. So far, they appear to be well built and suited for everyday use or hiking. If you like how they look online you will love them on your feet!

Good boot - I walked 2 miles in them the day I got them, cotton socks and comfort. They don't need any break in period. Very comfortable.

It always takes time to get boots to flex over my rather large ankles so initial comfort is not all that great. However, I will massage the boots a lot to loosen up the tightness. Impressed with Zappos

Smaller than the other Hi-Tec Altitude size 13 which means the 14 will be too large. A shame because this boot is nicer and has FLAT laces - much better than round laces!

We ordered these and a Columbia pair for my son who is just entering men's sizes. We compared the two sets. I liked the laces on these better (easier to tie and stay tied than the round/tube-style laces that just didnt "grab"). However the manufacture of these boots looked a little wonky and perhaps made overseas. When my son stood with his feet together, one boot appeared slightly wider in the toe box than the other, and the seams appeared maybe to be glued? They just looked sort of wonky. Anyway the manufacture quality appeared to be higher with the Columbia boots and since the fit was good on those too, and the price was almost identical, we kept those instead and returned these Hi Tec boots.

Seems good, haven't had them long enough for a real rundown. Only complaint about the design is the tongue gusset, it doesn't extend up very far and will allow water and debris into the boot. Wore them on a hike today and they were quite comfortable despite minimal breakin.

My old Altitude IV's were great. I wear a Women 8 Wide. Hi Tec no longer makes this boot for women. Luckily, a Men's 7 is the same as a Women 8 Wide and really it is. They feel the same on my feet as my old pair of Women 8 Wide. I have bunions and this boot is wide enough for the bunions yet has a good fit around the ankle. So, women, if you typically need a wide boot, try this in a Mens size -- call Hi-Tec and they will tell you what size in a Men Altitude IV will be the same as your Women Wide size. The other styles of HiTec boots that do come in Women Wide are not as comfortable as the Altitude IV. I'm happy wearing a Mens size to get the Altitude IV, it's width, and its comfort. My old Altitude IV boots are still good - except for the edges of the sole that I have worn down from lots of hiking. I liked this boot enough to buy a second pair.

This is a nice, lighter weight hiker, with a more flexible sole than my standard hiker the Vasque Wasatch GTX. On this Hi-Tec there's a gap in the lacing structure between the top of foot and up the leg -- which is good or bad depending on how tight you want to lace. Even though it doesn't look it, it has a really ample toe box which is also why I love the Vasque Wasatch. Great product, but the uppers hit my shin at a weird spot and cause sore spots, but am moving around the tongue and as it wears it it'll be fine, I don't remember it happening with my previous pair. I use orthotics and am normally a women's size 10; the men's size 8 fits perfectly.

This is my third pair of Propet boots. I have been happy to find them on Zappos, since they seem to be the best WIDE, waterproof hiker at a reasonable price. By the time I need a new pair, the models have changed and I have to try something new and it continues to work out so far. But there is always a bit of aggravation... the first boot had die-cast eyelets that quickly cut even the toughest laces. The second pair had big smooth lace loops, completely solving that problem, but ended up delaminating the soles after a couple of seasons. This boot seems to be holding up pretty well, but now on THIS boot I'm finding that the speed lace hooks are just plain hard to lace. They are positioned a bit funny and don't accept the lace easily. Pretty minor complaint, really, but there it is. This boot seems even roomier than expected in the toe box, believe it or not. The EEE size is more than adequate, although I've worn 4E in the past. They have been out for several backpacking outings and are holding up well. The full-grain leather is a bit vulnerable to rock scuffs, compared to previous boots. But the soles seem to be rock-solid, which is good. So far so good on the waterproof construction, sloppy trails are not leading to wet socks, which in the end is the best review I know how to give.

Bought these about 3 months ago and have worn them on and off since often as a replacement for sneakers. They've taken very little scuffing and the waterproofing holds up amazingly well. Most recently I wore them for nearly two days straight digging out after the major blizzard in New England a couple of weeks ago, and my feet were never uncomfortable, cold, or wet. My only complaint is that the standard laces seem to come loose very easily. I bought these boots from another retailer because they had a better price, but no matter where you buy them from I highly recommend them.

I have more expensive hiking boots and these are compatible. I would recommend investing in an insert to give better arch support.

They were painful to wear the first few days. Now they are fine after breaking in.

Solid work boot, has good grip and are very comfortable. Sizes run just fine only problem is I wear mine out rather quickly (6-8 months) The tread wears out and begins peeling. Would still buy them since the quality is great for the price.
