Ugly as sin, but oh so comfortable. Very supportive. Unfortunately, I had to return because they were too big in the heel and slipped up and down.

I needed to go up one size for proper fit. These are comfortable with or without socks. Quality leather and workmanship.

This is my first pair of Londons, after being an Avid Arizona fan. The fit for me was exactly the same as all of my other Birks - I have 3 different styles of sandals and I wear a 38 in everything. If I wanted to wear these with thick socks, I probably would need a size up, but I bought them to wear barefoot. It really only took me 2 wearings to break in the leather on the top - without socks, it did rub the top of my ankle a bit, but not even enough to make a blister or sore. And, like some other reviewers, I actually like the way they look - the European hippie look is fine by me. I wear them with jeans and leggings and I think they're cute. For me, I just can't beat the comfort of Birkenstocks. I know they aren't for everyone, but my feet and knees just love them.

The fit was good but the tongue of the shoe rubbed against the front of my leg when I walk. I know this would be a problem. Not quite wide enough for my bunion either so I am returning.

Super comfort as all birks have! Maybe not the cutest things you have ever seen, but I can be working in the house and accidentally wear these to work and it will all still be fine. The leather is black but more of a matte so almost leans charcoal.

You can’t really go wrong with Birkenstocks. Amazing quality and always consistent fit. I ALWAYS wear a 36.

I haven't had any Birks for twenty years. I used to be a Birkenstock sales rep but had worn them before that job. Break them in as you would contact lenses and after thirty days, not only are you 'in', but you're hooked. So glad to be back in them! No hiatus ever again.

The leather on these is so stiff and hard, I feel like it would take a long time for them to become pliable. I don't recall my Paris style--a style Birkenstocks no longer makes-- taking this long to break in but, then again, I was 23 when I bought them in 1993 so perhaps I don't recall and I'm not as patient regarding foot comfort! Looking for a second pair of closed toe comfortable shoes for the colder months. If they still made Paris, I'd buy a second pair as it's healthy to rotate shoes. The search continues...

It is more a matter of style. The shoe has good quality and is comfortable. So if you're into hitting a party on a pair of Crocs, these are definitely a step up. I just couldn't find anything in my wardrobe to pair them with.

Size is misleading

Beautiful shoes; did not fit; irrelevant. Love the style, completely confused by Birkenstock sizing.

Will be sending it back, the width of the shoe was not wide enough. Was extremely tight around the mid-foot, even with the buckle unfastened. The length of the shoe was just fine. Not good for fat flat feet. I was extremely excited to get them in the mail, disappointed that it didn't fit me.

REVIEW UPDATE: I have ten pairs of Birkenstock sandals including two pairs of Bostons, which look similar to the Londons. A local Birkenstock specialist helped me find my perfect size...most people mistakenly buy Birks that are too small or too narrow. The Londons LOOK like Bostons but fit much more tightly across the top of the feet. The thick Habana leather slowly conforms to your feet day by day. The soft suede version will loosen up more quickly. Because I wear Birks almost everyday, the Londons felt fairly good right out of the box. After a week and 20 miles of walking around the neighborhood they feel great. I have already ordered a second pair. These are great shoes for people who are on their feet at work, and for folks who want to do their daily 8,000 or 10,000 Fitbit steps with zero foot, ankle or knee pain. Londons with the oiled leather upper can last ten or fifteen years. A heel replacement is only $20 and a sole replacement is about $50...even the cork footbed can be replaced when it is finally worn out. Over a ten year period, the Londons will outlast twenty pairs of non-repairable cheap shoes that fall apart after six months.

Birkenstocks have greatly improved my life. At age 65 I struggled to walk around the block due to pain in my feet, ankles, knees and hips. Now, at age 70 I am walking five miles a day in comfort. I like my Birkenstock Bostons and I expected the Londons to be similar. But, the Londons feel quite different from the Bostons. The thick, high quality Habana leather of the Londons feels snug across the top of my feet while the Bostons are quite loose fitting. After a few weeks of wear, the Londons will loosen up and conform to the shape of my feet for a great fit. Because I wear Birkenstocks almost daily, the Londons felt comfortable out of the box and they will gain comfort as the upper and footbed become more flexible over time. The Londons are a good investment. Over the next ten years I will spend $20 a year for heel replacements and every three years a new sole will cost $50. The total cost of ownership will average less than $50 a year for a supremely comfortable shoe. In contrast, a $50 shoe would fall apart after six months of walking five miles each day.

I've been an ER RN for 33 years and these are the only shoes I can wear that do not cause me foot pain.

I wear shoes size 7 but Birkenstock’s size 6-6.5. I love the style and it fits perfectly. I wish this style came in brown suede too. Overall I love it.

London; SUEDE; All-leather; Taupe; 46; Regular; Standard footbed; 2020. Purchased direct from Birkenstock, so FYI. I have numerous pairs of Londons now. This is one of the first instances of Birk offering London in all-suede. The leather used for this model as received *from Birkenstock* is _much_ thinner than suede Boston model; nubuck London model, and shiny/untreated leather of black & brown London and Boston models. I'm disappointed at the thinness of this leather. It is in one regard very comfortable *like a supple glove* BUT is not robust like other sued Birks that I have had for _YEARS_. In another model this would feel like a fashion choice with more delicate/boutique materials, but *nothing else has changed* about this otherwise CLUNKY shoe design. There's nothing slim, quick, or (more) elegant about this London. It's the same looking oil tanker it has been forever. So, must conclude it's Birkenstock adapting cost-cutting measures without saying so to customers. Would love to hear observations from others. Have had dozens of Birks over decades, this is the first where it felt like I bought a pair where lasting-for-a-decade didn't matter to the manufacturer.

I have high arches and normally wear Birkenstock Boston and Arizona styles. Unfortunately, the London shape on the top of the shoe causes my foot to be squeezed down onto the footbed and I can’t get my foot far enough into the shoe so that the arch support aligns with my arch. They are wide enough, but not high enough to accommodate a high arch. I tried them on multiple times and finally decided to keep them in the hope that they would loosen up with wear. I wore them to work for a full day. Huge mistake. This issue is what I would expect from the soft footbed style but I didn’t expect my feet to be squeezed in the regular width and footbed. The length and roomy toe area are great.

I wanted a closed toe and back Birkenstock. I ordered a 43 because I wear a women's 12. I don't think they are stylish but I shop for comfort first. I have a high arch so the tongue rubbed the top of my foot and the top of the material in the back rubbed my heel. I had to return but will order the closed toe style that is backless for comparison fit. I appreciate Zappo's free shipping and return policy because it is hard to find my size in shoes

I have a high arch and this particular shoe did not fit because of that. The shoe was tight and the strap was not long enough for me to click the strap on. I have a Boston and that fits, but I can't wear it outside with winter weather.
