Love these shoes. This is my second pair. I wore the last ones pretty constantly, especially on hikes and throughout the winter as my main snow boot -- lasted me 4 years. I put on this new pair and they felt great from the first moment. I have a very wide toebox, high arch and very narrow heel -- hard to find shoes that fit. Finally I found these Keens -- no orthopedics or inserts of any kind needed. They do run very wide, which is great for me. I think all Keens run pretty wide. May be too wide for a more typical women's foot.

I bought these boots for an all seasons multi-purpose use and they fit all aspects of what I wanted in a shoe: 1) ankle and arch support -- check 2) waterproof and gripping soles -- check 3) keeps feet warm but doesn't sweat stink your feet out -- check. And of course we get Keens because we love the toe protection! I wore these boots in the sand in 80 degree weather and in the snow in single digit weather with thick wool hiking socks -- boots were awesome! The key is to keep the shoes tied tight to prevent rubbing which then results in blisters (only got blisters once because I wore really cheap synthetic socks. Another trick is to double knot the laces. Wore these boots to hike, to horseback ride, and to walk around the city. Comfy! Buy! I bought these in both a size 8 and an 8.5 -- I stuck with my regular Keen size of 8 (aka my regular shoe size).

Comfy, decent-looking. Good hiking boots with good ankle support. They have removable insoles so custom orthotics are an option with this shoe.

Best boot ever! I ordered these for my "gentle" hiking but I end up wearing them several days a week just for comfort. They are so comfortable! I even prefer to wear them instead of my Mizunos during the cold weather. I have bad feet and wasn't sure if I would be able to tolerate these boots but they feel great all day!

Although these boots don't look as elegant as some, they are top for comfort, with a nice roomy toe box. They also have a clever lacing system on the secong top eyelet, which allows the boot to be tightened around the ankle and not slip forward on a downward slope. Very nice and functional boot.

Super comfortable and great traction. BIG downside for me is that mud and manure cling to the soles like lovers spooning. I didn't realize this would be a problem.

Loved how it looked/felt but unfortunately it was at least a half size to a full size too small. And since I wear an 11 there was no bigger size. Too bad, I think it was going to be a great hiking boot.

Following other reviews I ordered a whole size up to a 10. I think I could have gone with a 9.5 but the 10 is still fine. Initially they hurt my ankles but after wearing them for a couple of weeks they feel fine. Definitely keep my feet clean and dry.

These are my first pair of hiking boots. They are very stable and comfortable. I have a wide foot and these boots are a little snug, but not as bad as other companies. Overall a good boot. If you have a wide foot and are a serious hiker, you may want to try another style. I don't hike much so I got them even though they are a little snug. They also run a half size small. I am normally a 7 1/2, but had to go up to an 8. Make sure you order a half size up.

I love these boots! Unlike other reviewers, I did not need to size up. I did order a half size up per reviews, but the 7.5 was too big, even with extra heavy socks. Zappos was fantastic about making the exchange to a 7 which I received within 24 hours. The 7 fits my size 7 foot perfectly. This boot has an unusually wide toe box, so there is plant of space. It is also the most comfortable out of the box hiking shoe I have ever worn. I considered the Merrel, but am so happy that I went with the Keen.

Love these boots! I live in Keens anyway but these are the most ambitious hikers I've purchased. They're very lightweight and the ankle support is great.

Unlike many other posters, I did not have to order a size up. I think this is because I have wide feet and I usually wear a too-large shoe so as to get adequate toe room. With the Keen brand (as well as my beloved Birkenstocks) there is plenty of width, so I take a smaller size, or my proper size, as the case may be. This is my second pair of Targhee Mid boots. I wore my first pair nearly every day for five or six years. They held up well, although the waterproof-ness wore off a long time ago. I was happy to see Keen has changed the design very little. Still comfortable right out of the box!

I was super hesitant it buy these only because I knew I would have minimal break in time before a 4 day back packing trip. I have high arches and occasional plantar fasciitis. These boots were awesome. No issues whatsoever. These were a pleasure to put on every morning and super light for hiking. Looking forward to future hikes. I did buy 1/2 size up from my normal Keen size due to previous reviews and they were perfect fit.

Great support and very comfortable, I'm on my feet all day at work and these Keen's are the best option I've found so far. They're my second pair in five years - I'm only getting a new pair because I think I should after so long (though the first pair held up great!).

Based on other reviews, I ordered a half size up. I bought these for a boy scout high adventure backpacking trip to the Black Hills. Wearing good wool socks, I got blisters on my toes on the shakedown. Wearing liner socks and good wool socks my toes blistered on the main trip. The upside, they are very waterproof. I stepped into a creek over the top of my foot and did not get wet feet.

I have had these boots for about a year now. The review that said the sole does not grip wet surfaces adequately was right on - these boots are very very poor on wet rocks or other slick surfaces. I've hiked for many more years than I care to admit and for hiking these boots are just not adequate. They are comfortable and good looking and fine for walking on a flat trail or the sidewalk but that's about it. These are my second Keen shoe and my last. My experience with the "Whisper" sandals was similar - good looking, comfortable, but worthless off of a sidewalk and certainly not suitable for "adventures anywhere from hidden coves to rushing rivers."

Have always loved Keen shoes. When I needed shoes for hiking I thought I'd try theirs and was not disappointed! Wonderful fit and the comfort is great...and not just for hiking, wearing them when my job has me standing/walking outside for hours (7 hours the other day) and my feet were still happy & shoes comfortable (in other shoes, my feet were tired and not happy, but not in these). Can't wait to take them on a real hike...thanks Keen for another great shoe. By the way, the mid height is perfect for a 5'2" women, plenty of ankle support. Love 'em!

I can't say enough about these boots! I've had them for five years and they barely show signs of wear and tear. I've taken them to the Grand Canyon, the highest mountain in Borneo, into caves. They've held up to desert conditions and torrential rain. Like all Keens, they have a nice roomy toebox. The ankle support is just right for most day hiking and the soles have excellent grip. They only slip in the most extreme situations - like wet granite in a rainforest! Every woman in my family has these now- I just got a pair for my sister to initiate her into the Targhee club. She wore them right out of the box. No breaking in needed! They are true to size for athletic shoes. I usually wear size 8 running shoes and 7.5 for everything else. The 8 is perfect for me.

I normally wear a size 9 so I ordered a 91/2 as per the suggestion with this boot. When they arrived the boot was at least 1 whole size too big. Also, the tied shoestrings come up OVER the top of the tongue (which seemed to set low to me) esp when using the top side clips, but even when not using them. I like the look of the shoe, but am returning them, not only because they are way too big, but esp because of the "over-the-top-tongue-tying" problem.

Best hiking boots I've ever had. Lightweight, roomy, comfy even after several miles of hiking, sturdy, and very well made. Before these boots I had a pair of the Vasque Breeze. They run very narrow and after a while my feet would hurt. I thought they'd eventually break in, but they didn't. I had those boots for 5 years and used them for many day hikes. Within the first year, threads on the Vasque boot were coming loose. The Keen Targhee boot is so much better in terms of fit, comfort, overall build for long hikes over rough terrain, and especially price wise. I'll definitely get them again when I wear them out. The only way that the Vasque boot seems to be better than this Keen boot is in it's waterproof lining around the tongue of the boot. The Keen boot's tongue is separated from the rest of the boot, unlike on the Vasque, and so I'm more weary of water getting in when I'm walking through water (so far I've walked through deep mud and puddles and have had no problems). Maybe the non-lining around the tongue will be an issue and maybe it won't, but the Vasque's waterproof lining worked perfectly, especially when standing/walking in a stream. By the way, I ordered a half size larger with these boots and they were perfect.

Great fit right out of the box. Took them hiking in Ireland after wearing them only 30 minutes. Never had a problem the whole trip. Love these boots.

After reading other reviews, I ordered a half size up and I am pleased with the fit of my boots (normally a 9). Plenty of toe room. When I first got them, I was in a restaurant and they seemed to slip on the floor. I haven't noticed that problem anywhere else. This past weekend, I hiked in them for two days on rooted and rocky trails for 18 miles. My feet felt great!

Wore these for the first time on a rainy day in the mud. The boots got wet but my feet stayed dry! The hooks at the top of the boot "lock" the laces in place - I consider this a bug rather than a feature, as it becomes difficult to adjust the snugness around the ankle. I had to spend some time fooling with the laces to get the boots to fit properly (high instep, narrow heel). Now that I have them the way I like them, the boots are comfortable and feel sturdy.

Thanks to Zappos I was able to try several different hiking boots for comparison. The Targhee II has a toe box that is like heaven for my arthritic toes! Thanks reviewers for pointing out to order a half size larger, thanks Zappos for making it easy to compare shoes!

Unfortunately I read all the reviews and ordered a half size up because everyone said they ran small. That was not my experience. They are true to size and a half size up was too big for me. I have very bad feet and these shoes allow me to walk for long periods of time without pain.
