I gave these shoes a very thorough working over this last 6 months because I had field work for several hours a day throughout the week and these were my primary field shoes. Unfortunately, I was disappointed, though I think these may be okay for more casual hikers/day hikers. Cons: Not waterproof in the laces, so if you are walking through wet grass in a rainstorm, your feet will be wet. The soles are not very "grippy" so I feel unsteady on loose rock or wet surfaces. After 6 months of constant wear, these have broken in to my feet. I feel disconnected from my feet and unsteady, especially when I am off-train on steep slopes. This is especially uncomfortable on loose rock slopes where I feel like there is a large hunk of leather/plastic keeping me from climbing the way I want to. Little interior support. The leather dramatically changes after getting wet - my leather is splotchy, both the color and the texture (and I do clean them and properly dry them after rain!). Pro: Attractive. Good ankle support.

This boot was nice looking. It was extremely comfortable and required no break-in period. However, it was not waterproof. I contacted Keen and their customer service has been excellent so far. My claim is currently "pending".

Definitely go up a half a size.
I read prior reviews and figured that since I'm either an 8 1/2 or a 9, I should buy the 9. The 9 was still too small! I've never bought a 9 1/2 ever, but found that I had to with this shoe. Aside from the fact that the laces that came with these boots were way too short, I am very pleased with this hiking boot. It cost me about four bucks to get longer laces -- 54" laces seem to be best for this boot if you are looking to buy them.

Not good enough -
The problem with hiking boots - you never really know until you hike with them. I bought these for the square toebox - which is very roomy and comfortable. My previous hikers, Merrill, have great ankle/heel support but the pointy/narrow toe box made me seek out something new. These seemed to run short - like other Keens I have. On the first hike, I could feel the arch support wasn't there and the soles are far too flexible for anything but the kindest of trails. I could feel the shoe flex around gravel and small rocks.

Soles started falling apart after less than a year of light wear. Seriously not ok :(. Very hesitant to buy more Keen boots after this experience.

Disappointed and sent them back. I want to replace my worn out Targhee hikers that were made in China. Apparently the now made in Vietnam version, as it is a different factory, the shoes are smaller and mjust enough narrower to not fit the way my old ones do. I wish Keen would get it together. Their once noce wide toe box is a thing of the past, sigh. Love Zappos though, it's great!

I really wanted to like these boots, the colors are wonderful. However, they cause pronation (where your feet lean in towards each other). Darn it.

I normally wear a size 9 so I ordered a 91/2 as per the suggestion with this boot. When they arrived the boot was at least 1 whole size too big. Also, the tied shoestrings come up OVER the top of the tongue (which seemed to set low to me) esp when using the top side clips, but even when not using them. I like the look of the shoe, but am returning them, not only because they are way too big, but esp because of the "over-the-top-tongue-tying" problem.

I really wanted to like these boots. I have had the exact same model before and I loved them, but somehow these are different. My last pair of Targhee boots were 10.5 (which seemed ridiculous since I normally wear a 9.5) but they were so comfortable, they could have been size 100 for all I cared. So, at first I ordered this new pair in a 10.5, and they were too big, so I exchanged them for a 10, which is the size I wear in running shoes. I think I had it stuck in my head that there was no way a 9.5 would fit, since I previously wore a 10.5, so I started wearing the size 10 pair, assuming that they mold to my feet as I broke them in. Well, I wish I could return them, but I have worn them a few times outside, so I suppose that I can't. I think that might be a bit too big and they just don't feel right. They are not a cushiony as my old pair, but worst of all, the traction on snow, ice, or wet rocks is terrible. These boots are useless on any slippery surface. I almost killed myself trying to take a walk on a snow covered path, I slipped so many times. My husband was fine in his Vasque boots - even he could not believe how often I was slipping and sliding around. Anyway, I don't know why these are so different than my old Targhee boots, but shame on Keen. I generally love Keen shoes, except for the new narrower fitting models. The original styles of boots, shoes and sandals fit my wide forefoot perfectly. These boots do offer that traditional Keen fit and they keep my feet warm and dry. However, due to the poor traction and inconsistent fit, they will most likely be going to Goodwill. I love Zappos, but this is one case where I really wish I had bought these from REI where, as a member, I would still be able to return them even after wearing them outside.

Love these boots! Bought the Gargoyle/Jade Green and they are gorgeous. After reading reviews, I bought a half size up (I usually wear a 9.5 in Keen, and the 10 was perfect in this boot). I was able to hike in them out of the box with no break in period, and I spent 3 weeks in England traipsing around in the rain with happy dry feet the entire time. The only time my foot got a little wet was when I stepped in a puddle that went up to the lacing. Unfortunately, after only 2 weeks of wear, the black sole started peeling from bottom of the boots. Called Zappos, and they accepted my return. Love Zappos!

I'm very disappointed with the performance overall of this shoe. I love Keen products and have had this same shoe twice before. But it is very clear that this newer version is made cheaper. My 3 year old Targhee II are softer soled than these and even the lining is noticeably cheaper, thinner. I laced and re-laced, tried different socks, even different days, but no luck. They just are not as well made as they used to be. My right foot literally hurt just from wearing the shoe itself. Highly unusual for a Keen experience. Proceed with caution at this price.

Feel a bit narrower than my previous ones of the same model and size. But most importantly they are NOT WATERPROOF at all, despite being labelled as such. In previous ones I could cross puddles and shallow creeks, these get soaking wet through by just walking on grass with morning dew. And they take forever to dry too. As I'm in California I did not discover it in the summer due to drought, but now it's a real bummer and cause of dissatisfaction.

I really wanted these to work but they just didn’t. I have bunions and they really hit in bad spots. I even adjusted the lacing to try and feel better but no go. They are just to narrow for my foot.

This is not the comfortable boot that the original Targhee was...the fit is not the same instantly comfortable boot. It is not sized right and the arch is off the next 1/2 size. Do not purchase this boot.

YIKES! What happened Keen? I already own an older pair of these boots, and they have been incredible. Ordered this pair, like I did the older pair, 1/2 size larger... what I got was hard to believe. Must be at least a 9.5. There were two size stickers attached to this pair. The bottom sticker said size 9, and the top sticker was 10.5. These boots were NEITHER size. they feel like a 9.5 to me. Ordered a second pair and received them today. The left one fits perfect (10.5), and the right boot feels like it's an 11. Wow... will send back first pair, keep second pair until I get a THIRD pair to see if the sizing improves. So disappointed in Keen...this is a terrific hiker, but not worth this kind of hassle.

I love this boot, I have worn it for years in my work and for hiking. But think winter, I tripped when the loop of the bow of one shoe hooked on to the hook of the other. (Broke my wrist and hit my head.) I was all ties up and double bowed, etc. It had happened once before but I caught myself. I am not sure if I need shorter laces or if perhaps the hook has been redesigned. I love the boot but am afraid to wear it now.
