See below. These are true to fit in length (numeric size) but not in width. Other posters are right about fit and the sizing of these is beyond quirky. I wear a medium width, but the EE (double W) width fits perfectly. Ordered the M and the WW, but never took the M's out of the box after trying on the wider pair. Be warned that even the WW are quite narrow in the ankle and shaft. The wide width in the footbed (is not a traditional 'wide') and does not translate to wide in the calf. They are actually quite narrow, with what looks like a very sleek and tailored fit. This is is perfect for my short legs and small calves, but anyone who needs a proportionally wide boot will be disappointed. If you find a width that works, your usual size in the wider version will fit beautifully. All the fit-quirks aside, these are possibly the most comfortable footwear I've ever worn, right out of the box. Thank you other reviewers for helping me anticipate the size thing, and thank you Zappos for free return shipping that makes it possible to try a couple of sizes.

I normally wear an 8.5, but needed an 8. I have a wide foot and 16.5 inch calf - these work beautifully! They're warm, stylish, and very comfortable. They look great with jeans, skirts, and dresses alike. They're not "dressy" but complement many outfits. They're expensive, but worth the investment.

I am so thrilled to find this boot. Because I (a) am short (5'3") with a small calf and (b) have a bunion and require a custom orthotic inert, I have a hard time finding shoes that work, and an even harder time finding boots. But these boots are awesome. The are shorter and skinnier in the calf, which is perfect for me. And the wider, boxier toe is very comfortable for my bunion, and the removable insoles accommodate my custom orthotic perfectly. All this plus a cute style. I am ecstatic!

Bought this boot for a year in rainy London. Not much rain so far, but I love it already. The boot is comfortable, stylish and completely practical--the perfect combination. In general I find La Canadienne runs a little snug, so it is useful to order wide or wait for it to stretch.

These are amazing boots! I have chronic foot pain and need shoes that provide support (no flimsy soles) as well as cushioning. These offer both. My feet feel so good in them. Another major selling point is that the toe area is a square shape, so there is plenty of room for my toes. The patent leather is beautiful and the overall quality of the boot is very high. I am so happy to find these gorgeous, comfortable, fashionable, warm boots for fall and winter!

Great boot! I am 5'2", 110 lbs., with a calf girth of 13". I ordered this boot in a 7.5 W. I have wide, problematic feet and I never get to wear cute shoes. I have a high instep and feet that are so painful that I can't tolerate any pressure points from shoes. That said, now I can say I love these boots! They are cute, with the patent leather, wedge heel, and square toe. And they really do feel like bedroom slippers. The ankle and calf fit great, too.

I hesitated to purchase this shoe, due to the fact that it has a square toe (ew!) and because of the high price (ack!) However, the rave reviews and the fact that this boot apparently fits those of us with narrow calves ultimately led to my purchase, and I couldn't be happier. The boots arrived in record time (ordered on a Sunday afternoon, they arrived on Wednesday morning). Thanks, Zappos - you're amazing! The square toe is still the only thing that really sticks out as the variable that keeps me from loving this boot to death. Otherwise, this is a perfect boot - I'm 5'4", and the boot ends about 3/4 of the way up my calf - exactly what I was looking for. My calves are about 12.5" around at the top of the boot, when wearing leggings or tights. I measured the circumfrence of the outside of the boot at the top, (size 7.5, medium) and it was about 14". In spite of this difference, this boot FITS! Those of you with narrow calves will be able to relate to the frustration of trying to find boots that don't make me feel like I'm standing in buckets - unlike other boots I own or have tried on, I cannot fit my hand down the side of the boot comfortably. There is room, don't get me wrong, but it's comfortable room, if that makes sense - the boot is snug, especially when I'm wearing skinny jeans (as I am now), but not too snug. A note on the size and width: I am between a 7.5 and an 8, with what I would consider 'normal' width feet. I ordered the 7.5 medium width and this boot fits perfectly. There were about ten minutes of stiffness in the ankle, and then it just softened up and feels like a slipper, really. There has been, literally, NO effort needed to break this boot in - it felt comfortable within minutes. No tightness, no rubbing, no blisters. I have a standing desk at work and I stand about 4.5 to 5 hours a day and these boots have given me no trouble - there's a cushy insole that feels great! In conclusion, I'm a La Canadienne convert - I realized I was probably going to have to pay a premium to find boots that fit my calves, but the comfort and obvious quality of these boots make them worth the price. I am planning a trip to Paris next fall, and these boots are definitely coming with me!

These are perfect boots. I get compliments every time I wear them. I wear them with tight-legged pants, wide-legged pants, or leggings and dresses. I wear a lift and orthotics and both fit into these boots. They are expensive, but worth it. Comfortable the moment I put them on. Awesome!

I have absolutely loved these boots so much. I bought them in and highly recommend the black patent. I got them at least five years ago and have worn them all over Paris in winter, as well as New York City, Boston, Toronto, San Francisco, etc. in rain, sleet, snow, salt, etc. My feet stayed dry and warm, and looked good while doing so. They still look shiny and new on the outside, and I have never shined them. Only rinsed and wiped down with a cloth if they were salty/muddy. After five years, the zipper is starting to give a little trouble at the ankle where it bends - the ankle is a little more wrinkled (but that probably wouldn't be so if my calves had not gotten a little wider over the past few years, forcing the shaft of the boot downward a bit...) I recommend these boots without hesitation, even at this price point. It is a no brainer, and when mine give out for good, I will replace them with the exact same boots. If you need a ton of arch support, order half a size up and add an insole for comfort (I have not needed one, but now I may add one as I have aged a bit and my feet complain more no matter what shoes I wear).

I adore these boots. Tried La Canadienne again only because Zappos is the absolute best. My first pair (a style no longer sold) was a weird dud. I ordered a giant pile of possible replacement boots (which all arrived the next day, and I shipped them back for free - where else but Zappos?). I am keeping the Felicia in gray, and Blanche in red patent and flat black. That's a lot of boots, but they are my dream boots. I've not found anything similar, anywhere. They are all so comfortable, I will be able to walk to work for 40 minutes in them. They are gorgeous and classy and slightly unusual. They all have a little height, which I need at 5'3", but the wedge makes it a wear-all-day height. I love the shaft height - perfect for shorter peeps like me. I never thought before, that a shorter boot might work better on me, but I love the look. I actually think Blanche looks better with skirts for me - a little boring of a toe, under pants. One of my calves is an inch wider than the other, and I have muscular legs, but the shaft width is fine - a bit tight on one, perfect on the other. The red is darker cherry - so cool, I can't stand it. The reason I have to keep both Blanches - the thick, very gushy insole comes out, and my giant orthotic fits perfectly! I haven't worn skirts much in two years because of that problem - can't wait for fall now. These are beautiful boots, and perfect in so many ways for me. I love boots with skirts, but can't really walk around all day in a little heel, or even a 2 inch one if it isn't comfortable. I wear a 39 in everything, and it was perfect here. All the reviews say these last years and really are waterproof.

Was nervous about spending this much for boots but so worth it. Will definitely buy more of this brand. I could walk miles in these boots, more comfortable than any shoe I have ever worn. Love them.

Oh my god, I love this boot. It is the most comfortable boot I have ever experienced. And it is exactly what I was looking for in an all-around versatile boot. Totally worth the high price, if I could have zipped them up. I guess my calves are bigger than I thought. Now I have to return them, but believe me, if there was any way I could have zipped them up, I would have done it just so I didn't have to return them. I am heartbroken.

Some other reviewers suggested getting a half size larger and I would agree. I usually wear a 7 1/2, but bought an 8 in these boots, and am glad that I did - especially in the calf area. Very comfortable for a full day of walking.

After trying on at least 10 different pairs of boots, I found these. I have short boot from La Canadienne that I have had for several years that I absolutely love. These boots are dressy or casual which I was looking for. They have just enough heal to keep me taller than my 13 year old (at least for a month or two). The craftsmanship is very high, excellent quality. I would recommend for anyone who needs comfort and fashion.

These are expensive, but worth it because they are nice enough to wear with a dress to church, etc., but also sturdy enough to schlep through snow and icy muck. They are snow boots that don't need to be changed for your nice boots. So comfortable, I have literally walked a mile in them without feeling any discomfort. Will buy another pair (or ones very like them) when these wear out. Love this brand.

Great boots! The price is high, but they're excellent quality. The red felt a little bold for me too, but a friend of mine had this exact pair and I loved them on her, so I was brave and bought them for myself. No regrets. They're so comfortable and the crinkle patent red is so fun. I've received lots of compliments on them already. The calf is wide enough for my full calves, and though I was worried that the slightly shorter height than many of my other boots would make my calves look heavier, they don't. They're quite flattering on. I love my red boots!

These are clearly very good quality Canadiennes. However, they are narrow. I bought a full size bigger (7 1/2 WW) and they are still narrow. The calf is snug and I have a regular calf. I will send them back. Too bad because it's clearly a great boot!

Bought them for my wife. She tells me they are warm, fit well, are obviously well made, provide good traciton and are very good looking. That last point, I can vouch for - timeless style though definitely having a kind of European sensibility. My wife is not fashion crazy but she does have a refined sense of what looks rights as well as what to avoid. I was a little nervous buying shoes for my wife but she fell in love with these boots.

Yes! Love these boots. Cute, comfortable, outfit multiplier (super cute w/skirts and pants) make them buy worthy. Somehow my feet are never cold, but they aren't too warm for indoor/office wear. Very happy w/purchase and as always, Zappos as well!

Originally I had tried to buy this boot in December 2006, the red was sold out so I went with the Black. As soon as I tried it on I was in love! Fast forward four years... I had recently moved everything into storage over the summer, including my boots, oops! Not going to work in NE Ohio! I bought the red! They are comfortable, fashionable and totally functional in the winter weather! I love them and the compliments are endless in both pairs. Great under pants or jeans and work very well with skirts and dresses too!

These boots look great from the outside but are at least one size smaller than expected. I consistently wear a 7 in boots -- even in other styles of La Canadienne. Order at least 1/2 size up if not an entire size up.
