Gift for young daughter-in-law - My daughter-in-law in Alaska says these boots are great. She's very particular about shoes and clothing and I was glad to hear she really likes these new Sorel boots. They are much warmer than most other winter boots, so it was a great choice as a gift for cold climates.

Sore's Flax Waterfall - The boots do look as nice as they do on the internet. Except for the flax colour boots look more like not so tan looking, more of a brownish colour. I still love them and kept them. just a heads up.

Great BUT... They were perfect except for the fact that the picture makes it seem like it'd be a nice soft wood color when in fact they are a dark wood almost brown color. I am not happy with the color so I'll be returning them for one of the other two colors. Also note that its stuff so I am guessing we'll have to break them in unlike the Clairmont which is nice and comfy (I ordered three pairs of shoes at once)

I tried a lot of boots before choosing this one. Your feet will be very warm and dry in these no matter what the weather.

Very stiff initially, but they loosen after a little indoor wear. Size is true with heavy socks.

I purchased these boots because my fiance and I were going on a weekend trip to Chicago to watch the Bears play in the Divisional Playoff game and the high was going to be something like 25 while we were there. I hate being cold and I know how important it is to keep your feet warm in order to stay warm outside, so I went ahead and bought these snow boots after shopping around quite a bit. They are very waterproof and the sole of the shoe is very thick which is great for snowy-slushy sidewalks. Some other reviewers complained about the zipper being very stiff, but the pair I received did not have this problem. As far as the size goes, they felt just a little bigger than an 8.5, so that if I wore them with thin socks then my feet would slip back and forth a little, but if worn with thick wool socks then they fit just right. I actually would have preferred if there had been just a little more room in the shoes because I wanted to double up on thick socks, but couldn't without squishing my foot and causing discomfort. For the football game I wore these with a pair of Heatmax socks with a pouch for a Heatmax heat pad and my feet stayed very toasty. (On a side note: if you're interested in heated socks, don't bother spending the money on the Heatmax socks because all they are is a thick but not wool sock with a little pouch sewn at the end for the heat pack. Just buy the heat packs and either sew your own pocket on the end of your sock or just stick it in the toe end of your shoe.) I will say that the shoes are really stiff and there isn't any arch support, so they could be uncomfortable for some. I am a teacher and to break them in before heading to Chicago I wore them while teaching. The first couple of times after wearing them all day my feet were a little sore, but after I broke them in a bit I didn't have any problems. I am back in Oklahoma now where there is currently a blizzard going on. If I need to leave my house for anything I will definitely wear my Sorel boots!

I purchased these boots in December 2009. Though heavy, they were perfect for heavy snow storms and all in all warm. Now they have started to leak at the toe and I noticed that I misread the description which says waterproof but only refers to the suede. A bit of misleading advertising. I did a Google search on leaking Sorel boots and, lo and behold, this has been a problem. Zappos was great about it with me, but I would recommend, if you buy these, also buy Sno-Seal to prevent leaking between the rubber bottom and the suede. Overall I love these winter boots, but leaking at both toes doesn't work.

I gave these boots 4 stars for two reasons. First reason: They are rated for -40 degrees, which could be if you're out for short periods of time or moving around a lot, but not if you're standing still for 3 hours. I went to the Steelers/Jets AFC game with a wind chill of negative 4 degrees and after an hour my toes were very chilled. Not to the point that they felt like they'd fall off, but cold enough that it was very uncomfortable. I did only have on 1 pair of very thick socks...maybe 2 would have been better? Minus 1 star for "not warm enough just standing still." Second reason: I shoveled 5" of snow from my driveway in 14 degrees for about 45 minutes, with the same pair of thick socks on that I wore to the game and my feet were sweating bullets. Also, I went outside for a couple quick trips to the mailbox and to take out trash with no socks on and my feet stayed comfy for those few quick minutes. I wear a size 9, but ordered a 9.5 to accommodate thick or multiple pairs of socks and they fit fine. Width isn't too bad. I can slide my feet in easy enough and zipper them with no problem even with 4 layers of pants on. And they do keep my feet dry. Overall, I think they're great boots, warm if you're active, and would definitely buy Sorel again. Plus 4 stars for everything else!

Great boot. Fit is exact and I wear a nine and they are true to size. Not a heavy boot, but warm.

I really wanted to like these boots. I have a pair of Sorels which are 25 years old and still in perfect shape (I did just replace the lining because the fur on top was gone). But this boot just feels a bit wide - I tried both a 7 (my normal size) and 7½ and while the 7½ fit best in length, my foot felt like it was swimming in the boot. If it had fit, would have been a great value.

My family's grown up in Sorels. I haven't had them in a while and thought I'd try them out again. They are pretty comfortable for big-time walking in Chicago's elements. There's enough room for some thick socks as well.

Love these boots. They are very warm. Bought them right before a blizzard and my feet which are always cold were never cold, or wet while outside in the snow. The zippers are difficult to zip up.

The toe area offers plenty of wiggle room. The ankle is really tight when you first put these on. I wore them around the house as much as possible before taking them outside. The ankle loosened up well and now is not a problem. These are good sturdy boots. Strangely we have not had snow since these boots arrived, but I’m sure it’s not connected. haha They are really warm as well. I expect these to last a long time. I bought a pair for my daughter as well and I don’t expect to have to buy her another pair for years to come. A good purchase all around. I wear very thin socks with these. I ordered my usual size, but a size up would have allowed for thicker socks but as of yet I haven’t needed thicker.

Great looking book but not at all comfortable. Usually wear a 6.5 W so I had to order a 7 M (which usually fits), but not in this case. Even with thin socks my toes were at the very tip of the boot with no room for movement. Little to no cushioning in the sole. Too bad because I really like the looks of this boot.

Warm and waterproof. I have had these boots for about 4 Chicago winters. They continue to hold up very well and stay very warm and completely waterproof. They could stand to be taller, but paired with good socks and a smart pant layout my feet stay warm and dry. They are stiff and not ideal to drive in, even after 4 years, so don't count on them softening up. The sole is also stiff, but on frozen snow and ice this is desirable. I have tolerated without any problems: sub-zero walks, ankle-deep wet slush, and said slush frozen solid. They are not the most charming or cute boots, but man they do the job!

Warm boot. Bought these for a Packer game and they kept my feet so warm. They also looked good with jeans. Now I put my feet in them at home to warm them up. They ran small as I am usually a 9 and had to get a 9.5. Not much break in required either.

Good boot, could be taller. Just got this boot. Time will tell if it holds up to Chicago slush, but it's a comfy boot. Seems to run true to size; I got a half size larger so I can put in extra insoles (I like my workhorse shoes super-comfy) and accommodate thick socks. Hey Sorel, how about making this same boot but add about 3 more inches on the top of the boot? I'm a little concerned that the boot will be too short for the crazier snowfalls.

Very nice, but scratchy inside - This boot was one of the most comfortable I've ever put my feet in - until you walked. On the inside wear the zipper was rubbed up against my skin and I felt it even through my sock. It might have softened up over time, but my leg and ankle couldn’t handle the pain until that time. I'm returning for another Sorel because these had so much potential and beyond the zipper, felt great.

Really like it - I read the other reviews before I bought this boot, and they were right. It started out really stiff, and I thought it was not going to work, but these boots have softened up and I really like them. The only part I don't love is that they are kind of hard to zip up.

Great traction but a pain to put on... I've been wearing them daily now for about 2 weeks, and have been able to test them out in snow, slush and arctic cold we've been having here in Chicago. They have great traction in all different conditions. I haven't slipped once. They're comfortable as well. My one big complaint is that they're a pain to put on. I don't think my instep is that high as I've never had much of a problem getting boots on. Also, they don't seem to keep my feet as warm as others say they should. Maybe I'm just wearing the wrong socks or something. All in all I'm pretty pleased with my purchase.

Warm and Comfy - I haven't had an opportunity to try my new boots out in a huge amount of snow but I have used them on extremely cold, cold days. They are perfect for those sloppy wet cold days. Very, very warm. True to size. I actually ordered mine 1/2 size up for thicker socks no need to do so except they don't slip on as easily as I had imagined so , now they are a tad big if I do not wear thick socks. Just a little hard to put on I am hoping they become more flexible so that they are easier to slip on and off. I ordered the arctic color, nice color!! Not too bulky looking for a snow boot.

Should'a paid more attention to the reviews - Way too stiff in the shaft. Many reviews commented on this, but I've always loved Sorels, so didn't listen to them. Sent them back and ordered Columbia Teravals. They should be here Monday. Zappos is the absolute best. Not only the prices, no shipping charges, and free returns, but the reviews are extremely informative and helpful. I now will "listen" if more than 2 or 3 people have the same complaint on a particular shoe. Many did say to order 1/2 size up, and I did and it was the right thing.

These boots are cute and would be good for hiking in the snow, etc. As they are like mini-tanks on your feet, they are solid in construction. They are so stiff though, especially on toe and ankle. My usual size was too tight with socks and the half size up was too big. Either way my foot was uncomfortable. They looked okay, and the tread was great, warmth was good. Just no cigar, I ultimately went with another boot. They are also much more of an athletic look rather than street savvy.

I bought these boots last year when I was preparing to move from Los Angeles to western Massachusetts, and I love them. I teach at a college so I do a fair amount of walking during the work day. These boots are comfortable, stylish, extremely warm, and sturdy. I have slightly wide feet but did not have to order up in size.
