The shoe is too heavy and the leather is hard. I will return it.

Great shoe. Fit is extremely tight, even with a EEE. Overall length is true to size.

This is a beautiful shoe! High quality. The issue I had was trying to fit my husband's high arched foot into size 12ee. We could ultimately shoe horn it on, but still too narrow to be comfortable for a Wedding. If you have a regular foot, I am sure it would be fine.

I ordered a different style and was not happy with the color. I exchanged those for the Melton Cap Toe. The color was great but the shoe was stiff, the tongue was sown to the shoe on one side making it difficult to put on. Free shipping and returns is an awesome perk. Just can't find a decent shoe like the other two I have from 10 years ago!

The store workers told me J&M no longer offers the Melton toe cap shoe with a leather sole that I previously had. The only offering now is the shinier shoe, or the one with a mixed leather & rubber sole (which I ended up buying).

The shoe fits really tight across the toe area. Hopefully it will stretch out after a few more days of walking.

Looked pretty good but doesn't feel like the quality I expect from Johnston and Murphy. The leather felt and behaved kind of plasticy.

Quite stiff and felt tiny. I have some leather sneakers from the same brand in size 10 which felt great from the start. These dress shoes in size 10 felt like a size too small. I double-checked the size printed on the shoe thinking that they'd sent the wrong size. The printing has the right size, but I'd have about as much luck getting my feet into a toddler shoe.

A bit heavier than expected. Still breaking shoe in but upper feels a bit stiff for leather. Toes still pinch but I am hoping that the leather will get more pliable with wear and stretch to accommodate foot. Will have to review after a few more wears.

Fair warning that these shoes did not come laced and were actually a bit difficult to lace up. These shoes will require some breaking in for additional comfort, which is primarily why I decided to return these. My opinion is that I shouldn't have to break into any shoes with this price tag.

I have a high arch and it makes for an uncomfortable fit.
Shies look great. Wish they were a better fit.

The high gloss is more like a tuxedo shoe than a dress work shoe

I got these online and should have waited to try them in the store first. Seem to run large. I always wear a 9.5 but these feel a bit loose. They look nice and are fairly comfortable ut am concerned with the large fit. I assume I cant exchange them which is sad as I got another pair of casual shoes in the same order and they ran small. Lessons learned dont buy shoes online.

Impressions from a try-on, not extended wear:
Moderately wide toebox, but narrow mid-foot. Nice looking shoe though. Rubs a bit on ankle. Leather forefoot is very slippery.

Second time trying these shoes and second time I've been disappointed. Just uncomfortable for me and not wide enough for my flat and wide feet.

Nice shoes, but wow are they horrible to break in—I normally have issues with the heel, but this shoe is all in the right foot above the toe knuckles. I don’t know how I feel about a pair of shoes at this price point that require this much work to *not* be painful to walk in...

I normally wear a wide, size 12 Conard Cap Toe shoes in both Brown and Black. I've had great experience with them so much that I've bought like 3 pairs of each color over the years. I'm 330lbs so I normally have to buy a new pair of I wear them everyday for work. I'm a high school administrator so they get plenty of use! I bought the Melton thinking it'd probably save me money over the long haul but they aren't comfortable at all yet and very hard to break in. The tongue is literally like "melted" to the shoe so it was very difficult to put the shoe on at first. The Conards, for me are instant for relief and feel like a cloud. Almost no need for breaking in because the tongue actually "gives" when needed. For me, and maybe other heavy set, wide foot guys, the Melton doesn't work. They do look great though and I do wear them to interviews or to church when I'll be sitting down most of the time.

When I received my first pair, both shoes had splits in the soles within a couple of days. I received a replacement pair and they had a permanent scuff. So finally, the third pair has been fine. But I had to travel to the mall twice to get it fixed right.

I have been buying this particular shoe or some version of it for years. The construction of the shoe has changed. There was a time I would have raved about it and how much wear and tear it would take .. No more though. The truth is I have not found anything better at this price point (still expensive ).

I have consistently been pleased with purchasing the Melton Cap Toe, until this most recent purchase in March, 2017.

At first I thought these would be a great shoe at the price I was paying (a little under $100 USD), but overall I am unsatisfied with the shoes. They are comparable to AE park ave in terms of style, but not quality. I own 2 pairs and they take a while to break in. The brown pair is okay in regards to the color and shine, but the black pair I own is terrible. They look like plastic and feel like it too. I will be returning these. Also they run a full size too big. I usually wear a size 9, but had to downsize and reorder a size 8. J&M customer service is fantastic though.
