The best thing about the fit is the way that it pulls snug around the middle of your foot, and then opens up for the front of the foot. The con of the fit is that padding isn't quite as comfy as the last pair of optimas. For whatever reason, the old optima's felt like a mattress. These have less padding. As for looks, they're incredible.

After over 600 days of wearing these shoes over the past 3 1/2 years, I have begun to wear through the soles in the bottom and needed to get them repaired. Since they've been my favorite black dress shoe for work or occasions, I decided to purchase the same pair in burgundy while the black ones are getting new soles. They're very comfortable for all day wear and I highly recommend them.

Have only worn these about 4 times in the past 2 weeks; they took two wears to break in, and they did squeak. I got rid of the squeaking with some foot/baby powder on the inner sole. Now they are quiet and comfortable. My one fear is that they may show scratches easily...time will tell on that. Otherwise, good pair of shoes for the price.

The only problem was that they were too narrow, but he got the medium width so a wide might have worked. But I don't think they made the wide in this particular style. Unfortunately, no stores nearby carry J&M's so we had to just guess and order. We ended up returning the shoes because of the width issue, but he is a big fan and plans to order another pair in wide.

Thank you. My husband's Christmas gifts were a great surprise. I purchased two pairs of shoes. One pair of Melton Cap Toe Bal. They looked like another company's Fifth Avenue shoe which my husband has. Your shoe is not as pricey as the 5th Ave. The Melton Cap Toe has a very professional & elegant look. He said, presently they are comfortable and well made. He could not believe the cost. So far they are a great price for a well made shoe." We will not know just how well made they are until he wears them for some time on his size 12 feet.

Great shoes will buy again...would really like to see the shoe string size match the shoe eyelets. And waxed strings would have been nice....

My first pair the insole came apart and J&M replaced shoes no question. The current pair are great but the finish is not holding up over time. They are discolored and polish is not fixing the problem. Other than that, they are very comfortable and I do like them. I will probably not but the burgandy again, but would buy the black.

Beware of visible creasing marks and lines on shoe top where the shoe bends between the toe-front and the instep. These lines appear a bit lighter in color than the rest of the rich burgundy color of the shoe. I wanted burgundy color at the time of purchase, but the pair of black Meltons I first tried on were actually more comfortable.

Great stylish pair of shoes. Uppers are slightly stiff and the right outer upper was uncomfortable first wearing but ok after 1st wear. I really like the leather sole.

Great shoe, takes time to break-in. I'm up and down stairs during the day, at the end of the day my feet feel great. I will buy another pair in a different color.

The only better shoe on the market is the Hyde Park II. I have been wearing Meltons and Hyde Park IIs for more than 16 years. I did recently try having a pair of Hyde Park IIs refurbished and, unfortunately, after two attemtps, I am still not satisfied. Both Meltons and Hyde Park IIs, however, are still the best out there.

The shoes are very nice and are breaking in. I purchased this style of shoe as I'll be going to more clients' offices and I want to extend a solid business presence.

My first pair of J&Ms were Dobsons. Very comfortable, but the leather did not hold up well. I found a pair of brown Meltons that were in great shape and had them resoled/heeled. They were very comfortable and you can always shine them to perfection. I decided to replace my Dobsons with a new pair of black Meltons and they are perfect. Classy, comfortable and shine up great. They are taking a while to fully break-in, but I am confident I will keep these for years to come.
