I really wanted the mahogany scotch grain in two colors. However, I was told that this beautiful shoe is out of production, why? So I bought the Melton cap toe instead. I also love your shoe construction (Good year welt) they last long and keeps a bright shine.

Although they were very stiff during the first week, the shoes gradually became more comfortable.
If they feel a bit small, they're probably not. It takes some time for leather to expand to your foot and if you buy a pair that are comfortable out of the box, you will end up with loose fitting shoes that are really uncomfortable in the long run.

This is a beautiful shoe! High quality. The issue I had was trying to fit my husbands high arched foot into size 12ee. We could ultimately shoe horn it on, but still too narrow to be comfortable for a Wedding. If you have a regular foot, I am sure it would be fine.

Good shoes made of steel. Can stomp any thing or any one any time. Should last a long time but takes a while to break them in.

Have been buying the exact same shoe for 15 years. They usually require some breaking in, but these are tighter and stiffer than anything I have had in the past.

Have worn this shoe for years in my corporate life and found them comfortable and versatile. However, this recent pair I purchased on sale are very stiff. The crease formed on the right shoe is digging into my big toe causing a sore spot. Am trying shoe trees to stretch the shoe top in the hopes that will stretch the crease and eliminate the discomfort.
Otherwise, a good looking shoe that goes with just about everything even light blue jeans and a blazer.

Having worn a pair of Melton Cap Bordeaux for 9 years, when I needed to add a black shoe, J&M was first place I looked. Was excited to see this same shoe is still available. When I first tried on this new pair, they were very tight to slide my 3E foot in (with a shoe horn) and was concerned, but once my foot was into the shoe, it felt very comfortable - just like my older pair. The design is classic for a dress shoe and well constructed. I regularly use cream polish (has leather conditioner) followed by wax and use a shoe tree ($30 investment) which helps keep the shoes in good condition, especially if the leather soles get wet). I hope this shoe is still available when I replace my older pair. My first wear for these black shoes is a formal, and a few polishing tricks have gotten the shine approaching patent leather gloss. Very impressive.

I've worn Johnston & Murphy for 30+ years. Was so confident I'd love my next pair that I ordered two - a pair of black Melton Cap Toes and.a pair of burgundy Melton Cap Toes. They arrived on time. So far, so good. But then I started to lace them up. The tongue is so tight to the shoe that it is all but impossible to get the lace through the first eyelet. My hands are stained black from wrestling with the shoes. After 30 minutes, I've got one laced up and the other is sitting there staring at me. On Monday, the burgundy pair will go back in the box and be returned to Johnston & Murphy and I'doubt I'll ever buy another pair. If there's. trick to this, then I sure would appreciate somebody letting me in on the secret.

I have worn the Melton Cap Toe for nearly 10 years and daily the past 3 as an airline pilot. I love the simple, timeless style, especially with a uniform, and, broken in, am comfortable in them throughout consecutive 15 hour days. The leather soles and upper provide broken in comfort, sweat absorbtion and breathability and they are easily shined with the soft cloth delivered with them between polish sessions.
Excellent shoe, perfect for a uniform and comfortable and versatile enough for walking on snow covered or rain drenched tarmacs.

The store workers told me J&M no longer offers the Melton toe cap shoe with a leather sole that I previously had. The only offering now is the shinier shoe, or the one with a mixed leather & rubber sole (which I ended up buying).

Love this shoe. Have had a pair for several years, and they needed to be replaced. Wish you had the size 8 1/2, width c in stock though.
The old pair were 8 1/2, d-b width which I bought from a store display, and I loved them.
