Have had multiple pairs of J&M Melton’s over the years due to their comfort, style and value. While I have also have shoes from Allen Edmonds and Alden for other occasions, the Melton’s are now the only ‘dress’ shoes I wear, which is daily for 8 to 10 hours per day, five days per week. Fit is always perfect, quality is consistently excellent and considering how long they last, price is a bargain. I rotate between three pairs of black, a pair of cordovan and a pair of tan. One of my black pair is on fourth re-sole and still look / feel great. For size reference, I normally wear 13 medium in Adidas and 12D in most casual lace-ups, loafers and boots. I wore the J&M Melton in 12D until a few years ago, when I switched to 12E, which allows for swelling after long days (8+ hours) on my feet, without being loose otherwise. If you have any doubts, order a pair from Zappos (best shoe site on the net!) and you’ll be a believer

These are incredibly comfortable. With the help Zappos amazing customer service team I was able to order the correct size shoe. I wore these all night at a wedding and they broke in easily and provided great comfort. They look fantastic and the construction allows for resoling, something that you often don't find in shoe at this price. Looking forward to many years of wear.

I wear 10D they fit perfect. They almost look like patient leather. These shoes will definitely help you look sharp in a business suit.

I thought that I had already reviewed this shoe, but received an email from Zappos to do so, again. In any event, this shoe was great. I would recommend a full size smaller than you might normally wear. The leather sole is a bit slippery at first, but the rubber heel, which I would normally reject, made it very stable from first wear. No real break-in required. I thought that it was comfortable right out of the box, probably due to great arch support and six eyelet lacing. I wore this shoe to wedding with charcoal suit and tan watchband. I did scuff the toe and adjacent sole a bit, so am looking for a suitable cream or such to buff it out. As an aside, I tried a few shoes from Zappos and their support and return policy helped me do so in a relatively short period of time. This included this shoe which was my last order, but had to order again overnight, due to the sizing 'game', that I have to play when ordering online. I probably should have listened more closely to the other reviews. :)

Great shoes

After trying many more formal shoes, I ended up keeping this one. Great shoe. My only regret was not having enough time to order a size smaller. I ordered a half size smaller, but could have probably gone with a full size smaller. Still, it felt ok and was comfortable after only a few minutes of wearing...no real 'break-in' period required. I did get a small scuff on the toe, and am currently researching products to 'buff' it out. Zappos was great throughout my search, as I tried and returned many shoes. In the end they shipped this pair to me overnight and just in time for my departure for my formal event. I probably would not have done so much 'shopping', were it not for the sizing issues that seem to plague these cap toe styles. They all seem to run a bit large/long.

After trying many shoe styles and designs on Zappos, I settled on this one for a formal wedding as father of the groom. Very comfortable. As with all of the pointed 'cap toe' styles it took me a few try to get the sizing down. The one that I finally used was a hat size smaller, and I could probably have gone a full size smaller, but it still worked out. I used a heel pad, also, but would have probably worked out with it. Comfort was excellent without any real 'break-in'...wore only briefly around the house, initially. Felt great, even with formal thin socks. I used with black shoe strings 'bar' laced. Looked very stylish. Use a different lacing pattern for less formal settings, if you want need the versatility, as well. Zappos has great support and worked with me right up to the eleventh hour of my departure for my son's wedding. Returns are so very simple.

I found this shoe to be very comfortable once you get the sizing sorted out. It seems to be best fit for me at almost a full size smaller. I have a narrow heel, but this shoe seemed to fit well with even a thin, formal sock. My first experience with a more pointed shoe, so this is part of my sizing problem, I would guess. Nonetheless, I kept the second try at finding my size and wore them to a wedding. Comfortable, almost immediately. Never felt like the traditional 'new shoe'. No 'break in' needed. Great arch support. I used a 'bar' lacing and I feel that they looked more formal for the occasion. Should be mentioned that I was in a bit of a time crunch and Zappos really helped me make it happen. They overnight shipped my last minute sizing choice and I was 'good to go'.

Had these shoes for 5 years now and they've been very sturdy. Just bought another pair in different color. Takes a few times to wear them in and they run slightly large.
