These are versatile sandals, with all the comfort of a walking shoe and grace of an elegantly styled sandal. The upper is a single piece of leather, with a separate cross strap. I got my first pair in 1999, to tour London, and have worn them every summer since. This summer I got a new pair (so glad they still make them) for a trip to Rome and Tuscany. Never a blister, they wear well, give great foot support, and adjust to swelling feet.

I have worn this particular Mephisto sandle for several years. This was the third pair I have owned and I love them. The fit is wonderful and I can walk for miles of vacation sight seeing and never get tired feet or blisters. They offer excellent support also.

This has been my favorite sandal for years. This is my fourth pair. I keep buying the same shoe and wearing it out. After it breaks in a little I keep the strap closed and slide it up and down my heel to get in and out of the shoes. The best!

Already this sandal had many reviews that helped me but I'll add that I am not at all disappointed. Flat, cradled comfort for walking was my goal and these sandals fit that bill. I stand all day and walk a lot. Very comfortable and supportive, I have worn these daily for about a month and have no complaint. Worth the money, as all my Mephisto shoes. I'm now sticking with the brand for all my needs and styles. Having comfortable feet is crucial!

I am 79 years old but I consider myself chic. I bought these sandals 3 years ago and they are still going like all of my Mephistos. They are so comfortable and you can wear them with everything, they will be a great asset to your wardrobe.

I have had a pair for 11 years and now replacing. Unbelievably wonderful shoes.

Awesome shoe but I had to return due to the buckle closure. Unable to easily undo. If closure was Velcro would have loved to keep then.

These are the best sandals I have ever owned. They were comfortable from the moment I put them on, offer good arch support (important for me) and span the stylistic continuum from casual to moderately formal. I bought them in brown leather and will probably purchase another pair.

I've worn these attractive sandals for well over a decade. I refuse to wear anything else in the summer. I manage a restaurant and my pedometer reveals I walk 14,000 to 17,000 steps and climb 45-60 flights of stairs a day. I absolutely could not do this without my Mephisto Altina's. I have a pair in black and a pair in brown. They are expensive but I buy a new black pair one summer and brown the following, buying a pair a year alternately. By the time I purchase a new pair, the leather is just beginning to be worn away at the edge of the sole. Most people would put considerably less wear on these pretty sandals. Worth the money.

Some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned! I have high arches and these shoes fit and support my arches wonderfully.

You will be sorry - You'll be sorry you didn't buy these, because they are such a great shoe,you won't know what to do in the winter. My feet were killing me in Manhattan, and I put on these shoes and walked the whole city. Now it's late fall and I'm still toughing out the cold weather with them. Hope Mephisto will make something comparable for the winter which covers more of the feet. I'm in love with these shoes. What will I wear on the streets this winter?

Don't Hesitate! I almost didn't buy these. I was in Hawaii on vacation and my walking 'shoes' were making me miserable. I went shoe shopping and found these. I really couldn't afford them, but decided to buy them anyway. It was the best shoe decision I EVER made! I wear these daily in the summer and on every warm day in the other seasons. I am happily replacing this sandal with the exact same one.

Back pain relief! These shoes are great! I wore them on a trip through London and on to Zambia, Africa. I walked every day for many more hours than I normally walk. I did not have any back or knee pain (which I have had a problem with for many years, with all kinds of walking shoes). They look nice and they feel great.

Great Shoes - Comfortable sandals are so hard to find and I ended up buying these Altinas. These are my first Mephistos and I love them. The sandals are leather and stretched within days of wearing them. By day three the sandals felt great and not one part of my foot hurt or was being rubbed into blisters. It's been a month now and I still wear them almost daily.

This is the thrid pair of Mephisto Altina's I have bought. They are the most comfortable sandal I have ever found.

Shoes that do everything! I travel frequently and prefer to take only one pair of shoes. These do it for me in summer. Business casual, sports clothes or dress, nice restaurants, walk for miles, run when necessary, forget you are wearing shoes (they stretch out)... pricey, but they are one-stop shopping and my feet vote YES. They look very nice and the picture doesn't do them justice.

Simply the best sandals in the world! These are my favorite sandals of all the Mephistos, and Mephisto is my favorite shoe of all time. Being a Mephisto, the Altina combines great quality and workmanship with total comfort. I walk A LOT!!I mean, I really put miles on these sandals and they hold up year after year. And best of all, I love the styling and elegant lines of this shoe which never looks clunky even on my size 11 feet!

My most favorite shoes... This is my second pair of this style shoe. I wore the first one for years and then went to buy a new pair last year only to be told that they didn't carry them anymore. I was most disappointed. I bought a different style that hurt. Then someone told me that I should try Zappos and there they were. I was so excited when the package arrived and they fit like a glove from the moment I put them on. Great walking sandals and stylelish. Oh....I needed to buy one size larger because they don't have half sizes and they are European sizing...I normally wear a 9 but bought a 10...it has worked out great.

Reunited - I bought this shoe in the mid 90's and wore it til 2002 when it finally succumed to mold. Just got another pair and it feels as if they are already broken in when you first put them on. Best of the Mephisto sandels for pure comfort. Great support for high arches. Tried other Mephisto sandels but non compare to this one. They just never quit.

Mephisto Altina - Very comfortable shoe and looks great. The only problem that I found is that it tended to stretch out.

Mephisto Altina is a Winner! We just recently moved from California to Kentucky and, thanks to remodeling projects, have been living out of suitcases for the past three months. My Mephisto Altina sandals are the only shoes I have worn, day in and day out! In spite of all the abuse - heavy lifting, walking through mega stores in search of this and that, being caught in frequent thunderstorms and the fringles of Hurricane Ivan, these sandals not continue to look good, they feel even better! I am convinced that had I worn any other shoe, I would be having major problems not only with my feet, but with my legs and lower back as well! Mephisto Altina sandals are worth every dollar spent!

Most comfotable walking sandals - I was looking for a pair of walking shoes because I was going on a trip to China. I tried so many shoes and finally when I put these on my feet, my feet started to dance (it's true). It was totally comfortable when I first put it on. I decided to buy it even though it was the most expensive shoes I had ever bought up to that point. I wore these shoes and walked everywhere in them in China, including getting them wet thoroughly because it rained and also I stepped into streams several times. They held up and retained their shape. They did get a little looser as time went on (or perhaps my foot got slimmer with all that walking), so I just tighten the strap a notch. After I came back from the trip, I found the Zappos site and ordered 3 other pairs of Mephisto sandals. They are all quite comfortable although I did not have the "dancing feet" feeling with them. It is hard to find stores that carry Mephisto, so I am very happy that Zappos has such a comprehensive stock of these wonderful shoes.

I bought these to replace my 20 year old Altina sandal. While the new one was nice looking, it seemed to be about 1/4 inch smaller in width in the ball of the foot, and 1/2 inch shorter in length although they were both 40. It is also clear that the leather is substantially thinner (about half as thick), and that the buckle is no longer brass, but is thinner and flimsy in appearance. The footbed appeared to be of the same quality, and was most comfortable and comforting. Arch support is Mephisto excellent. Bottom line: this is a quality sandal, although I don't think it will last 20 years. If duration is not a criterion, then I would highly recommend this sandal.

Very cute, but did not feel wide to me. I have bunions so was excited about several reviews reporting a wide fit. The narrow toe was pulling my big toe in. I wish Mephisto offered wide. Returned these but will try other Mephisto styles given all the great reviews.
