The Mephisto Elka is a very well-made shoe and extremely comfortable. I like that they are adjustable.

Not good for narrow feet - I bought this shoe hoping it would accommodate my narrow foot - unfortunately it did not. With the buckles on their tightest setting, the straps wrinkled and pulled in an unattractive way and the shoe overwhelmed my skinny foot. Too - bad. I was hoping for another Mephisto home run!

High on comfort and price, moderate-low on aesthetics.

Comfort in a walking sandal - These sandals are very comfortable, have a nice high arch and I love the color. They are a bit narrow, but adjustable. The only thing I don't love about them is the big name printed at the base of the strap, it's pretty big.

Too narrow for me - Ah - I SO wanted these to fit but they were just too narrow for my fairly average width feet. I had to return them (easy to do with Zappos!) and went with the Helen's instead. Naturally I wanted to keep both.

A comfortable, pretty sandal - The Elka fits nicely, thoughtfully refusing to press on any bunions, and it looks good, even with floaty summer skirts. I note only one problem with this Mephisto sandal, and I'm sure it's not unique to this one style: I very much dislike the prominence of the Mephisto name on the side.

I wanted to love this shoe. :-( The leather is raised about a centimeter above the sole between the two straps, and this hit me in my instep very uncomfortably.

Sad to say, I'm very disappointed in these shoes. I love Mephistos b/c I have problem feet and they are usually super comfortable. These actually make my feet hurt.

Mephisto needs to make these with a backstrap also. I had a pair years ago, and they are much more secure on the feet while going up and down stairs or walking at a quick pace. I've noticed that their footbeds are getting narrower over the years also, and would like to see them offer wide widths.

Ouch! I have several pairs of Mephistos which I love and I've heard so many rave reviews for the Elka, but these just weren't meant for me. I ordered the tan grain and the leather is so stiff. As soon as I put them on, I knew they would cause blisters even after loosening the straps. I tried walking around the house, but it just wasn't going to work. This is the most uncomfortable comfort shoe ever. I can't imagine trying to walk any distance in them. It's a shame because the arch is nice and high and they look so comfortable. Maybe the leather on some of the other colors is softer. The tan grain is awful.

Disappointed - Generally, I like Mephistos; however, they seem to always discontinue a known product that works for me. This is a new style for me, which I'm finding uncomfortable because of the hardness of the sole and leather. Also, because I have high arches, the upper buckle aggravates that area of my foot by the end of the day.

Squeaky patent leather...yikes - Although the shoes are comfortable and look great, they make an awful squeaky noise with every footstep. My only hope at this point is that it will eventually disappear. This is my second pair of Elka’s; it is a very slip on shoe.

Patent leather is stiff - I own a pair of the Elka’s in blue leather and they're great. Comfortable, adjustable and good support. However, the patent leather version is not workable unless you want to live with blisters on the top of your foot. The edges of the straps are hard - just walking around in the house for 5 minutes produced discomfort. I wish they were available in plain black leather!

Zappos.com continues to amaze me! I bought these shoes about a year ago. They didn’t fit properly, and I could tell that they were going to be uncomfortable even with the correct size. I then went through a process of moving twice and never had the chance to return them during the chaos of moving and settling in. By the time I contacted Zappos to return them a full year had passed. I really didn’t expect them to work with me at all, but they still agreed to accept my return, and even sent a return shipping label so that I wouldn’t have to pay for the shipping. My husband and I have purchased quite a few pairs of shoes from Zappos in the past and have never been disappointed with their customer service. This experience took amplified the quality of their service to us. If we ever need shoes in the future, Zappos will more than likely be our first stop.

Mephisto Elka - I'm sorry but I own 2 pair of Elka's and I just don't get it! They are fair, but not that comfortable. I just like the way they look mostly. I also have feet problems, and find Simple brand good for me. I don't like the cork under the footliner, it's not that cushioned. I have a 3rd pair new and still in the box that I am going to put on Ebay, look me up! Over rated, and over priced.

I've coveted a pair of Mephistos for some time, but felt they were too pricey. Now, with aging, sore feet, I regard Mephisto and other "comfort shoe" brands as a necessity. These shoes are darling. However, I was surprised to find them not compatible with my foot (7B). First the positive: the rubber sole is thick and standing in them, I can feel how they'd act like shock absorbers when walking. However, I was surprised to feel no arch support whatsoever. For a brand this expensive, I expect excellent arch support. The toe area is cut too narrowly for my tootsies. This gives the shoe a more sleek, contoured profile and avoids a clunky, bricks-on-your feet look. But it resulted in my both my little toe and the one next to it being squeezed up against the leather even when I adjusted the buckle. I know that even a minimal amount of walking would be uncomfortable and soon result in blisters. A larger size won't fix the problem because the issue for me is width, not length. Unfortunately, it's not offered in wider widths. I'm really disappointed and will be sending these back.

A couple of problems with this one - I bought this shoe a couple of years ago, and found that the cork bed soon started to disintegrate, so I superglued it. But I still find that I tend to fall off of the heel once in a while, so don't wear them when I have to do much walking.

I'm disappointed that the leather is so stiff and rubs on my toes. I've had this style before in white or perhaps a cream and this was so soft and comfy. I'm having a hard time breaking this new pair in. Sad.
