Smooth and comfy right out of the box. Overall fit is excellent and heel cup holds foot in place. Cushioning is very good and arch support is great. I've had four spinal surgeries, have severe sciatica and plantar fasciitis and these sandals are not only comfortable but actually make standing and walking a pleasure. I wear a size eight, medium width and had no trouble with fit in these. I purchased the tan grain leather and found them to be easy on the feet. You won't regret this purchase-it's like walking on clouds.

I normally wear a 42 in Euro size, but when I tried the 42 a few months ago, the footbed was too long and the leather straps were far too large - they gapped open even on the smallest buckle setting. I returned that pair. I love the gunmetal color and finally decided to take a chance on a 41. They are a bit shorter than I like but the leather straps fit correctly, so I will try these on carpet for a few days at home to see if the compromise on toe length will work. The comfort level of the footbed is fantastic and I appreciate the side stability this style provides. I do not like straps that "cut" into the outside of my foot with each step.

Extraordinary foot bed and very comfy. Very flattering on a wide foot. I wore them for a while around the house but the edges of the straps are sharp in places and rub. They're too expensive to take a chance. Too bad. I loved them.

Fabulous. These felt like they were custom made for my feet the moment I slipped them on. I have plenty of foot and leg issues, including a bunion and ankle problems. Excellent support and nice looking. I bought two colors expecting to keep one but will keep both! I love the Mephisto brand.

Finding this shoe was a dream come true. I got my first pair on a sale rack in NYC. But they're worth paying full price. I have very narrow feet and have metatarsal issues and these are comfortable for hours. If you have thin skin on the top of your feet as I do, they may require a short period of 'breaking in.' I recently moved to a warm all year climate and this is practically all I wear. I do wish they were a little less expensive but I'm just happy I found them.

I have purchased many colors of this sandal for many years. I wear it for everything--work, beach, walking. It is always my "go to" shoe. I always have people compliment me on them and ask what brand they are. Always refer them to Zappos.

I wear a AA width and this is one of the few sandals that is truly designed for the straps to be adjusted for a narrow foot. It is also lighter-looking and less clunky than most orthopedic and highly-cushioned sandals.

These are wonderful shoes! Comfortable, great looking, and beautifully made. After wearing them for just a few days I ordered them in another color.

I purchased my first pair of these in Ann Arbor, Michigan 15 years ago. I still love them and they still feel great on my feet.

I feel that Mephisto gives me the best fit for my feet. My feet and legs hurt a lot but these shoes give me the support that I need to get me the hours on my feet.

I purchased this sandal in several colors because it was so comfortable from day one. It has been a challenge to find comfortable sandals this summer. I just fell in love with this brand after trying so many other brands. The quality of the craftsmanship and the leathers is impressive and the are wonderful for the feet. I can wear them all day and not have any pain in the arches or the heel. There is no rubbing across the toes because it is adjustable. The soles are cork so they will mold to your feet. The only down side is that they may not be the most fashionable, like Stuart Weitzman or Jimmy Choo, but they more than make for it in comfort. Definitely recommend this sandal for anyone looking for a comfortable walking shoe for the summer. You will never want to take them off!

These are great shoes. I have them in the brown color as well as the black. I pronate & am arthritic in my hips. The only shoe that works for me are ones with cork footbeds that mold to your feet. I was always stuck with flats -- until this shoe. It has a cork footbed and a heel! I haven't had a heel in years. I feel "very dressed up" when wearing these. Planning on adding another color.

I kept these! I like at least a little heel, and they are a little higher than most of the comfort corks. The lines make my feet look les wide, while the straps don't rub my high arches. My last Mephisto cork sandals are over 10 years old and I still wear them. Expensive but last forever. Can't wait to put some mileage on these!

I absolutely love these shoes! I bought a pair in 2001 and they have lasted this long. I finally decided to spend the money and get another pair in a different color. They are so comfortable. They look great dressed up or dressed down. They are definitely worth the investment.

These are the single most comfortable pair of sandals I have ever owned. They make back and bunion problems disappear. I highly recommend them for both comfort and ability to walk great distances.

Super fast shipping on this beautiful shoe! I'm amazed at ordering from Zappos one day and getting the shoes the next! I had to return the first pair because they were a little shorter than the usual size would indicate. I love the comfort of these shoes. They are so easy on my feet, and I know I will enjoy them for years to come. I think they are stylish looking-- especially when you consider the comfort factor. Sometimes I have to give up style in order to have comfort, but not with this pair of shoes. I love them! The silver/slate color is absolutely beautiful and will go with anything.

All Star Elka - These are wonderful sandals! I bought two pair, one in tan, one in black patent leather. I have sensitive feet and I also like to walk. These sandals support my feet and allow me comfortable strides on city streets.

Total comfort- My only complaint is I wished the manufacturer had not printed Mephisto on the side of the shoe. It looks tacky. As for Zappos service it is definitely 5 star.

Rocky Mountain Mom - After three pairs of these in black patent, I went for the brown and like their more laid-back look. As always, the most comfortable style of Mephisto’s ever, and that's saying a lot because all their shoes are awesome!

Best shoe style I've had - I purchased the black nubuck version of this in 1996. It traveled all over Europe and Africa with me and never did I get 1 blister! I've glued and glued the soles to the cork but the shoe finally wore out. My new pair is the tan leather and is just as comfortable. I do miss the nubuck, but look forward to another 12 years of wearing these new shoes -- without a blister!!

Elka in New Colors - One of THE most comfortable and stylish shoe styles available. GREAT for walking all day long. Since I have plantar fasciitis, it's a fantastic product!

The most comfortable sandal I've ever worn! I have severe pronation and therefore need to have this size heel. Best arch support, also. I wear these all day and it's the only sandal I can do that with. Pricey but definitely worth the cost!

Great all around sandal - So comfortable with great arch support. They mold to your feet and are never stiff or hard in your sole. I can walk all day in these and still look fairly stylish. There are more updated styles but these are the most comfortable. I walk miles in New York City on pavement and never get tired feet...

Mephisto Elka - These shoes look like a work of art. They are as comfortable as they are beautiful. I usually wear an 8 1/2 and found the 39's a bit short, the 40's are perfect. I am a runner with high arches and have a hard time finding comfortable shoes that look great - I loved the black patent so much I ordered a second pair in brown leather. Worth every penny.
