The shoe is very comfortable and it looks good. It is a perfect 5 fit, and I wore the sandals on vacation, and it was like wearing a well worn shoe. Service from Zappos was excellent.

Mephisto Critique - I have purchased Mephisto Elkas in the past and love them. I would highly recommend them as a comfortable sandal as well as dressy enough to wear to work.

For feet on "the go" this is my second pair of Mephisto's Elka in the past 4 years. My first pair made it through two trips to China, a few trips to the Colorado Rockies, and keeping up with my toddler nearly every day for 2 summers. These shoes feel like a part of my feet.

Fantastic sandals. Worth every penny - They're not just stylish, they're comfortable, and how often do you get that combination? I've always had foot and back problems, and I'm a diabetic so I have to watch my feet carefully. The Elka has been a blessing in every area. They cushion my feet for more walking comfort, and they don't rub or chafe so I don't worry about them cutting up my feet either. One note: Mephisto are sold here by American sizes, but the shoes themselves are marked with European sizes. I can tell you that 41 feels true to my 10.5/11 feet.

Mephisto is the best shoe that I ever own. I have back and feet problems. I bought I don't remember how many pair of shoes until I found Mephisto, but this pair of Elka sandals are the best. I am planning to buy another pair of Elka.

Love this shoe - I own this shoe in seven colors and am waiting to see them in red. I have foot problems and this is the only shoe I can put on and immediately walk in. Also, I wear a ten narrow however, I ordered 11 (which is 41) and the foot bed is perfect and the only thing I need do is have extra holes put in the straps.

Elka Reigns! I must have this shoe in every color made. It's comfortable even after a long day of walking. I can highly recommend it.

Complete relief from medical foot & back pain - I have a history of back and foot problems. These are the ONLY sandals I have found that I can wear that do not hurt my feet. I currently have to wear custom made inserts ($200) in all my other shoes all day or the pain returns. I discovered them several years ago after I tore the ligaments in my foot and couldn't go barefoot anymore. I have to wear shoes all the time except when sleeping to support my arch. The money I save on doctor appointments more than pays for the new sandals each summer. They are wonderful!

Elka is Excellent - After two back surgeries, my feet seem to hurt all the time. The first week in these shoes, I remember thinking that these shoes were not so great. After a month, my other shoes were uncomfortable and these shoes never left my feet this summer. I adjusted my work warddrobe around the shoes! They adjusted to my wide foot, protected my nerve damaged heel from impact, and were lightweight. I wore them on my vacation to the Dominican Republic, rainy, hot, and humid and they still look great. The first week I owned them, I sprayed a suede protector on them so that probably helped. This was the best money on shoes I ever spent.

Mephisto Elka - I have two pairs of this shoe and avoid wearing any others in my wardrobe. I've been diagnosed with having a neuroma and this is the only shoe I can wear without feeling pain! I love them!

I'm hooked! I've owned this Elka for 3 years. I've replaced the cork bed once for 1/2 price through the manufacturer and now I need a new pair again! They show off your painted toes, and are really comfortable.

I have been wearing this style and others from Mephisto for years. I have just loved them & the comfort & support they offer during all day constantly-on-your-feet wear. I just get new ones after I've replaced the insoles (they get smelly) once or twice (before the cork cracks & rubber sole wear out). A local shoe repairman does this for about less fora pair. HOWEVER, the last 3 pair over the last 3 years (1 navy & 2 black) left terrible stains on the top of my feet, regardless of whether I did a break-in period with socks or not. I returned 2, knowing this had never happened in the past 10 - 15 years I've been wearing them, so thought it was a temporary quality control issue. I just kept the last pr., wanting to see when the color stopped transferring to my feet. Well, it's been over a year & every time I wear them (over 30 separate days) it looks like my feet have been severely bruised, & the dye is hard to wash off! I would love to know if others have experienced this with current black/blue Mephistos. My brown ones are about 4 yrs. old, & they don't transfer color.

When I first got these I thought they were too narrow up near my toes. Although the straps are adjustable, the footbed is shaped to cup the foot, and my foot was too wide to fit in the "well" created by the cupping effect. I found them uncomfortable to wear. Eventually, I forced myself to wear them a lot, and the footbed eventually conformed to the width of my foot. In fact, they were so comfortable that I wore them out! I'm waiting for the silvery color to come back in my size and will definitely order another!

I would love to have kept these shoes but they didn't have enough arch support for my high arches.

Mephisto Elka - I love this shoe...this is the 2nd pair I have bought. Having said that, there is one problem with the 2nd pair that the first pair didn't have...it makes a slight squishing noise when I walk. This is not a good thing! Size and fit are the same - the only difference is that now it has a new kind of padding in the foot bed and that is the culprit. The first shoe was so comfortable that I don't know why they changed it as it doesn't seem to be any better and now makes noise. Other than the noise issue - I still love the shoe but this problem may change my mind when looking to purchase this style again. I will know more after wearing the new ones longer to see if the squishing sounds get better or go away.

Great European Look! This is my second pair of Elka. First pair was a soft black leather and incredibly comfortable. Molded to my 11N feet after I tightened the straps. I wore them for four years. My new pair is patent leather and quite stiff. They are about 1/2 size too short. Wish I had taken the advice of other reviewers and ordered a size up. I have tightened the straps; however, my feet continue to slide forward. Elka has a great style. I am somewhat optimistic that I will get the kinks worked out and start enjoying them more. I love Zappos!!!

Wonderful if they fit you! I needed a little lift for an Achilles tendon problem. These would have been the perfect height. Strapping felt secure so that you wouldn't "fall off" the shoe. I read that they ran so short and narrow. I wear 8.5 M in most shoes. The 39 (9) was not available so I ordered the 40 (10). Sadly, they are an inch too long so it threw off the arch. I did notice that the front is oddly narrow, but, more than that, they are a very straight last so it almost felt like you had on the wrong shoe. I will reiterate that these were too long so I couldn't really say how they would fit, other than they do run short and narrow in the front.

I love this sandal! Not very stylish but it sure is comfortable. I visited a friend in NYC and wore this shoe day and nite. My feet felt great! A good sandal for someone with a narrow foot. You can cinch up the buckel for a snug fit.

Lovely leather, but doesn't work for me. Very stiff sole and, for my squarish foot, the very oval toe of the footbed means my 3rd toe rubs against the edge of the sole. Maybe it's just not for my foot.

These shoes are quite comfortable. Unless you cross your ankles while sitting! One of the buckles cut into my ankle and I had a gash which was very bloody. The buckles are very dangerous. After that, I got rid of the shoes.

I\'ve worn Mephisto\'s for many years and this is probably the most uncomfortable style yet. They are not flexible, rub a bit on the straps, and are not soft and comfortable. I am not thrilled with these shoes.
