My Elka - I have had my Elka's since 1998 or 1999 and I can't tell you how very wonderful they are. It took a bit of time to have the shoe form to my foot and then it was like walking on a cloud! I am still wearing them today (as we speak) and as I stood in line yesterday at a department store, they were noticed and admired! I am on a fixed income now and only wish I could afford one more pair...!!!

The very best Mephisto - This is a shoe that I wear all year round---just put on cosy socks in winter. So very comfortable--I have a high instep & wide feet--and the Elka looks quite chic. I have worn them for several years-- I think I have owned 6 or 7 pairs, currently have 4 colors--just wish they came in more smooth leather colors. I keep hoping that Mephisto will come out with a blue to match a blue Coach handbag that I was given as a gift. Also, I wish that Mephisto would offer Wide widths--that Hanka is so darling, but too narrow Mephisto is my shoe of choice--from my first pair called Rush, to the many pairs of Elkas--I am a fan for life. One other interesting thing to note, I had a painful neuromma on the bottom of my right foot which has gone away since wearing Mephistos--I guess having the good support helped it go away.

Better than going barefoot - This shoe is expensive, but worth the money. I bought this style about 5 years ago in tan, and now I bought the navy. It is one of my favorite shoes, especially because I have some foot issues that I try to hide (bunions).

Extremely Comfortable - This is the third pair of Elka's I have purchased: brown, white & black. They are a great walking shoe, and they just plain comfortable.

What Can I Say? I had been loking at your website since 2004, but decided not to order from you because I was unfamiliar with you and nobody I consulted had ever heard of you. Zappos had the shoes I wanted and there are not numerous sites that sell that. so I took a chance. I must say, the service was quick, accurrate and as requested. No complaints! I would use you again. Thank you.

Elka - I am so thoroughly happy with the Elka as well as the Helen. They are equally comfortable especially if you are on your feet all day. I'm so sorry that I purchased the Froda and Calypso and expected them to be as comfortable as Elka and Helen. I only wish that they made the Elka in gold. I have gotten a lot of complements and ladies want to know where I got them. Zappos!

Great looking, but still with the Cork Footbed - Mephistos have been the only sandal I can wear all day due to the need for a high arch. This is my forth pair of Mephisto's sandals and this time I wanted something that was leaning more to the dressier side. {Editor: I really have only worn the shoe twice so far, so I didn't know what to say here. Shoe feels fine.)

These are great looking and OH SO COMFORTABLE shoes. The next best thing to barefoot!

Dream shoes - Most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. If I could afford one in every color, I'd wear no other style but this one!

These shoes are extremely comfortable. They took a some time to break in as the upper was a little stiff, but now I can walk in them for hours. I bought them a year ago in the pink nubuck, and my only complaint is the look. I wish they were a little less clunky and available in light colors in smooth leather (it wears better than nubuck) and that the buckles were light colored also to match. But these shoes are absolutely the most comfortable ones I own -wish I could wear them in winter!

True Story! After a really long day of shopping in LA, my dogs were barking big time, so I decided to celebrate a certain major milestone birthday by buying my first pair of "comfortable shoes," the black patent Elka. My only regret is not replacing them sooner after leaving them out where my little sheltie could get to them!

my favorite shoe - These are my favorite shoes. Living in california I can wear them year round. I currently own 3pairs and will buy more I am sure.

Comfort, comfort, comfort - This is my 4th pair of Elka's. The first wearing is like a well broken in shoe! I always feel as though I stand straighter and have less back pain wearing Mephisto shoes. I will continue to be a customer as long as I am able to walk.

Great for heel pain - This is my 3rd pair of mephisto elka. I have plantar fasciitis and have a difficult time finding shoes that do not cause heel pain. This shoe is the only shoe that I own that gives me the greatest comfort. I really recommend Mephisto for anyone will heel pain. I'm not sure what makes them so comfortable but I wear mine my every waking moment. As I can afford them, I plan on stocking up on other colors. I wish that there were more smooth leather choices instead of nubuck. In Alaska we have snow for a very long time and nubuck doesn't wear well. (I wear these in the winter too, with socks, and yes my feet get cold and wet but they don't hurt.) I would panic if they discontinued this style but I recommend trying other styles, everyones feet are different.

Mephisto Elka - black patent leather - The Mephisto Elka is a very comfortable shoe. I find they are an excellent walking shoe when I am travelling. I was pleased with the black patent leather because it has held up looking spiffy and new, whereas the nubuck in black looks more faded.

I know my comfort shoes! I believe one must take care of their feet! I REQUIRE comfort. After all, we walk around on our feet for the duration! That said, I am also VAIN! I want my feet to look good. No, I want them to look REALLY Good! Mephisto's Elka (Along with Clark's Veronica) manages to accomplish both goals!! I have been wearing Mephisto's Elka for many years. I own six different colors. I cringe when winter is comming...I must put my Elka's away until warm weather! But spring will come and my feet will be happy again!Have I made my point?

Very pleased - This is my second pair of the Mephisto Elka in black patent. They are dressy or casual, and very very comfortable.

Elke- a great all round sandal - I just wore this sandal on a trip to Italy. It worked out well with pants, capris, and even a short skirt. It was very comfortable, and the straps adjust for swelling feet. I did have to exchange a size 11 for a size 12.

Can't Lose with Elkas - The Elka sandal is a fantastic shock absorber. I am on my feet all day with third graders, arriving at work at 7:30, and leaving around 4:30. The sandals absorb the shock from the hard floors and corridors I'm on all day. I like the arch in these shoes, and I think they look sharp with pants and skirts. I have two pairs (white and brown) and will soon be getting a black pair. They are worth every penny because of the comfort.

I'll take comfort over style - I bought my first pair of Mephisto's this summer. I am a shoe-aholic. However, once I got the size right -- 42(12)-- for my normally 10.5-11 foot, I hardly wore any other shoes. I ordered the Elka last week based on the customer reviews. These felt like a dream the moment I put them on. I was hesitant to wear them out that night in case I should want to return them. No need to worry -- I haven't wanted to take them off. Just ordered another pair. I am usually a "style over comfort" type person, but I guess I will just have to change my ways and wardrobe. I have always had back problems and, as age takes hold, I have noticed knee problems. These shoe make a world of differenc. I wish Mephisto would offer closed toe shoes in a largr size. Much more economical to buy one pair of shoes that fit than several bargain shoes that don't.

These are attractive sandals. If you're used to wearing Mephisto Helens, they will feel narrow. The footbed has more of a heel than Helen and although it's also a suede-topped cork sole, it's definitely smaller for the same size. I had a lot of problems with these when they were new, as the curved sides of the sole bed cut into the wide part of my foot. Eventually (after wearing them in the rain...) the sides broke down and they became very comfortable. When it was time to get them resoled they came back too narrow again, and I'm loathe to wear them in the rain this time, so I don't wear them much now.

This is a great pair of shoes! Unfortunately, they have somehow changed the arch support in them and they no longer have high arch support. They seem to still be a good walking shoe. This has nothing to do with Zappos service, but Mephistos, the manufacturer.

I am able to wear these shoes because the staps allow me to tighten them. I have a narrow foot, plantars facittis, an arthritis condition from a stress fracture in my right foot. Finding shoes with some style and enough support is very difficult. I could use more arch. However I wore them inside a bit to see if they would mold to my foot and they have begun to do that. They do not have as much arch as Dansko but certainly more style. They are acceptable with crops, ankle pants and skirts. I bought the patent and am pleased with them.

Comfy and not too granny looking. I Sharpee'd the front cork part black and the label, too making them a great all-black patent sandal.

I purchased these for the summer along with a few other pairs of footbed Mephisto shoes. I am halfway through a pregnancy, and just couldn't face walking around in either sneakers or thongs all summer! So, enter Elka, a sleek yet extremely comfortable low wedge good for everyday, dressed up or down. No toe pinching or sliding, and the adjustable straps allow for swelling or stretching. they are easy to get in and out of, and much more comfortable than comparable sandals.I did find Mephisto's recommendation on sizing to be a bit off on these-- I am a slight 6.5, and the 37 is a wee bit long on my foot (but the problem is solved with the handy dandy buckles). I probably could have worn a 36, but the 37 is fine (especially if you are prone to swelling).
