I have fibromyalgia, as well as serious orthopedic issues. I believe I bought my first pair of Elka in 2003. The only shoes I took to London where these and a pair of trainers. The Elkas were better than the trainer; I walked for hours at a time. I have 6 pairs now, including (thankfully) colors that have been discontinued. I'm hardly a fashion plate, but I have received so many compliments on these shoes, which I think are beautiful on the foot. The only adjustment I've made is to tight the forward strap. I also like how the ankle strap is over the top of the foot, not touching the ankle. It's more flattering, and if your feet do swell, you won't have the strap cutting in. I wear these from May through October (in Chicago), and wear them to business meetings and dressy occasions. In addition to the excellent arch, the heel cup makes a tremendous difference. Both my chiropractor and my orthopedic surgeon state Mephistos are excellent for people with bad backs, hips and knees. (The other brand is Dansko, which the surgeon wears in the OR.) This is a great shoe to have around for after knee or hip surgery, when you aren't able to put on socks or tie shoes.

These shoes are great! But I think a larger size will work better. I am going to reorder!

This is the shoe I've been waiting for. Comfortable right out of the box and extremely supportive. Works well for standing for long periods of time and for walking. The silver metallic is fun because you can dress it up or down.

Zappos has a wonderful service record! I ordered these shoes at about midnight on Saturday and got them on Monday. I am pleased with the way the shoes fit, even though I have not been able to wear them for very long because I just got them. The fit is good, and true to size. I love the way the shoes feel on my feet. I will write again after I've had a chance to wear them, but just wanted to say how fast Zappo's service is. I love shopping here.

These shoes are very nice, the leather is just not soft enough when wearing them without socks.

Comfortable and a good fit. Though they are a B width and I'm typically an AA, with an adjustable strap over the instep I was able to make them fit perfectly.

Love the Mephisto sandals, but mostly love the service! I thought I called too late for same day shipping but I was happily surprised when the shoes showed up the very next day! Happy, happy, happy!

I wear the Mephisto Elka, six pairs, and Mephisto Helen, 12 pairs. I love them both. I like the Elka for its slightly elevated height and because they look a little more polished than the Helen. I can always order a 38, and its consistenly fits the same in both styles. I especially like the glossy brown color because it works with many colors. I just love these sandals and have never been disappointed. I love, love these sandals and have been wearing the Elka and Helen for 10 years. I also bought the Elka in navy patent this year. They are great with jeans and for the summer.

I love this shoe. This pair was made in France! I lucked out. It is better than the ones made in Portugal, I think. I am very happy with this purchase.

Love this shoe! It took a little time to break in since the leather is a little stiff but it is great now! Finally a navy colored sandal!

I work on my feet every day doing customer service. These Mephisto Elka are the best.The give support without being too tight. I love the cork bottom. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Cute with jeans or a skirt.

Possibly the most comfortable sandal Mephisto makes, the Elka is versatile as well. Buy a pair in brown and wear them with shorts and jeans, and buy a pair in black patent and dance the night away. All in complete comfort. The arch support is excellent and the footbed comfort is superb. An excellent shoe for people with back and foot problems. Mephisto is quite an expensive shoe, but your feet and back need them. I look at women who buy pair after pair of cheaper sandals, keep them for a year (maybe) then buy more pairs. If you have never tried them, invest in one pair of Mephisto (Helen is great too and less expensive). They will last and last. And you will be back for more.

I suffer from occasional ankle tendinitis. I do low impact aerobics and travel a lot which requires, of course, a lot of walking. I wear during the day mostly the Helen. This is a bit dressier, has a higher heel and is very very comfortable. It's pricey but then my feet are worth it for when your feet hurt, it reflects on your face and you are no longer a "happy camper." I no longer shop in stores for shoes. Why? Because Zappos gives better service with a click of the mouse you get what you want the next day instead of having to go from store to store looking for a certain style.

Mephisto is my favorite brand for true comfort in a shoe. I own this particular style in 5 colors and wish there were more!

I have PF and really like this footbed for my problem. It gives great arch support and is very comfortable. I've owned this identical shoe in the black patent for over seven years and wanted to get another pair in case they decide to discontinue it. I would love it if they would offer it in plain black leather without the shine.

I had chronic low back pain for years and was treated by chiropractors and podiatrists. Until I bought a pair of these ten years ago did my back pain go away. The key to these shoes is arch support and an ergonomic foot bed. It's a soft foot bed that makes me feel more comfortable and natural than walking barefoot on sand. Every couple of years I need to buy a new pair because I wear them just about every day of the year, and the soles wear out. I have tried other Mephisto sandals, but none have the same foot bed. These are not the most attractive sandals to say the least, but it's necessary to sacrifice fashion for form. Also, I have very narrow feet, and another thing I like about these is I can have an extra hole punched to cinch it to fit. Other sandals I have purchased do not tolerate an extra hole because the bed is too wide or perhaps too flat. Bottom line: if you are a sufferer of back and lower extremity pain, but you want walking sandals, this is the best shoe you can find. It's the best shoe I ever found, and I had searched for years. These are much cheaper than custom made shoes.

This is my second pair and I only buy Mephisto's. They are theE most comfortable shoe around!

A great surprise! I have always worn good quality; fashionable, designer shoes but recently could not wear any and be comfortable, anymore. These shoes are most comfortable, you feel the difference immediately and they look quite good on - definitely worth the price. Zappos has provided excellent service!

I was so excited when I saw the Elka Mephisto on your website. I bought a pair of these several years ago at Nordstroms & wore them out. I went back to Nordstroms to get another pair & was told that they did not continue that style anymore. When I saw them on your website, I knew I had to get another pair. They are so comfortable. They can be worn casually with a pair of capris or look very stylish with dress pants or a nice skirt.
