Mephisto rush shoes - This is the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn, this is my second pair. I am a diabectic and this is about the only shoe I can wear.

Very good shoe - Great shoe! I walk about 4 miles a day sometimes more. Perfect shoe for this and it looks good. I have it in black and wear it with black pants. Quite good for a comfortable shoe.

Comments on Mephisto Rush - Mephisto Rush is the most comfortable shoe ever made. I have been buying them for ten years (probably about five or six pairs) and they last for years. You can wear these shoes the day they come in the mail (Zappos is very fast!) and wear them all day - no "breaking in" necessary.

I wanted these to work, but the toe box in this style was too narrow. Also normally where a size 8, 8.5 were still just slightly to small. Definitely order 1 full size up in this style.

I found this shoe to be too narrow. The edge of the insole was right under the ball of my foot. It is a nice looking shoe. It is also a bit heavy. I would have kept it had it fit better.

For an Oxford-type shoe, I think these are stylish and have the support I need for a plantar plate problem. However, I have a pet peeve that some expensive brands, claiming to be good for your feet, come in only one width, M. I usually wear 11 N but decided to try these shoes on a friend's recommendation. They're not great for me but good: the toe box is a little narrow and the heels are very much too wide. Good support and comfortable for walking, even with my heels slipping. The shoes seem very well made with quality materials.

A Frequent Mephisto Customer - I have owned other Mephisto Rush and this pair fits differently...it is a good fit, but it has taken some breaking in time. In the past I have put on the shoe and never gave it another thought. This pair is snugger and does not seem as generous. The lacing is different and the overall width of the shoe is not as generous. The shoe has definitely changed...still good but not as wonderful as the previous three pair I have owned.

Good But Not Great - Having two pairs of the "Runoff" model (that need refurbishing) and one pair of the "Originals" model, I purchased the "Rush" model with confidence that the shoes would fit well. Instead, the heels are wider than in the models I have, I'm using thicker socks to deal with this. Also, I prefer the somewhat higher rise in the heels of the "Runoff" model. "Rush" is good, but not as good as its predecessors.

In general the shoes were fine, but the right shoe seemed different from the left. It was smaller on my foot, and the tongue somehow was gouging my ankle. I adjusted the tongue, took my sock off so the shoe would fit less snugly, but the right shoe was unwearable because it was so different from the left. Too bad, because I liked the look of the shoes and they were so promising!

I got a pair of Mephisto sandals from Zappos, years ago, and still have them, they are still in great shape, but I have lost some weight, and they are now a bit big. But when I tried this shoe, it there was a spot which rubbed the outside of my R 5th toe, and it became so uncomfortable, I ended up giving them (yes, giving!) to a nurse friend. Had I gotten them from Zappos, I could have returned them. I have found that so many shoes do not have a wide enough toe box to accommodate that spot on my toe, so I am looking again.

I am disappointed with the shoes. I believed they are the same shoes that I have home (the old ones) that I purchased some years ago in Georgia, US. However, only the price is the same. Even the tone of color is different, the design in details (both the top and the bottom) is different, the quality of the leather is lower. My old ones were made in Portugal, had a wonderful pat inside, shining leather and beautiful decoration. Even the bottom was designed with care. Old ones were 39 size that corresponded to 38 US, the recent ones are much bigger. I wanted 1/2 size bigger than the old ones, and I got them 1 1/2 size bigger than compared to the old ones.

I need a comfortable yet supportive walking and work shoe. I have been dealing with plantar fasciitis for almost 2 years, and it's about 85% better now. I have had the darnest time finding footwear that doesn't make my foot hurt. My podiatrist recommended Mephistos and last year I bit the bullet and bought a pair of the Mephisto Mobils sandals and they turned out to have such a hard footbed that I could only wear them for a few hours without having to remove them because of pain. They are in great condition, but I can't wear them! So that was money wasted. Given that experience, the Rush was a risk. But they had such great recommendations here on Zappos, I thought I'd give them a shot. The Rush turned out to be very nice inside and not bad looking. Not an orthopedic-looking shoe at all. The reason I returned them, though, is that they were narrow. When I had the shoes laced up, my feet, which have a bit of peripheral neuropathy, really began to tingle, and nothing I did would relieve it. So, it was a clear decision--send 'em back! I wish they came in wide!

Not as comfortable as New Balance Tennis Shoe - Beautiful brown leather. Attractive, not bulky. Very narrow shoe with narrow tapered toe (which I like). Area of discomfort for me is the front of the arch support portion of the insole which rubbed a blister on the bottom of my left foot at the front of my arch. (Felt like a high ridge that shouldn't be there. This ridge did not make itself felt, of course, until I'd walked several blocks outside my house.) I have never had a blister on the bottom of my foot from any shoe. Replaced the arch support with a Dr. Scholl's gel insole, which added 20 dollars to the cost of this shoe. Warning! Very stiff sole that needs lots of breaking in before going on any trip that requires a lot of walking. I rated arch support "excellent" because there wasn't a selection for "very high arch support, inflexible and uncomfortable."

I wish they had an even wider size for this. I ordered the Medium width and wore it everyday. It felt great for the first four weeks then I developed Morton's Neuroma - a nerve irritation between the 3rd & 4th toe due and it felt like I was stepping on a marble. I can't wear these shoes now. The condition went away when I went back to wearing my regular wide shoes.

I rarely make a return on any Zappos shoes; however, this pair was returned after 4 months of resting in a prominent place on a dining room chair where I really was attempting to convince myself they were at least partially or somewhat attractive. After 4 months, lack of style trumped any perceived comfort.

I was stunned by how the tongue dug into my right foot- and this is a problem I've Never had before with any shoe. Don't know if they were defective or what. I had my feet sized at a shoe store and these felt 1/2 size too small.

The best shoes that I ever had were knockoffs of these shoes, much less expensive, that I bought in Italy. When they finally wore out after many years I searched around for an equivalent - firm comfortable shoes for walking that were not either sneakers or hiking boots. But it seemed impossible to find the crucial feature - the thick, shock-absorbent, true rubber soles. I also happen to think the style looks good. I swallowed hard and paid the astronomical price for Mephistos. (I have worn their sandals for years, they are not as pricey.) But there is a serious problem with sizing. My normal size, 8½, is too small and pinches. The next half-size up, 9, is way too large; my foot slides back and forth and the arch support is in the wrong place. Holding the two shoes side by side, the difference seems enormous. I have kept the size 9, just because I still love the soles and the style. I have had a shoemaker file down the arch support, and wear thick hiking socks. But I think Mephisto ought to make a size in between these two. Incidentally, Zappos' return and exchange policy is amazing; and their customer support is as friendly and helpful as can be. I certainly give Zappos five stars.

I tried both the 8.5 and 9, hoping one would fit since the other reviews raved about how comfortable these are. But the toe box is just too narrow.

These sit in my closet. I bought these last year expecting tremendous comfort, but every time I have worn them, even with thick socks, blister-resistant socks, moleskin, you name it, they have rubbed the skin on my heels RAW every time, making it painful to walk in any shoe for several days afterwards. Ironic because I bought them thinking they'd be comfortable. The sole itself would be - has a nice springy feel. They need to improve the design on the back, though. For the money, they should not give me blisters and tear my skin.

How to ruin a formerly perfect shoe - Mephisto Rush used to be the most comfortable, quality shoe I'd ever worn. These gave me blisters, despite trying to break in the shoe by wearing them inside the house. As soon as I tried the shoe on, I could tell these were made very differently than other Rush shoes I'd bought. The inside seams are now easily felt, as soon as I put the shoe on, and begin to hurt the feet as one walks less than one mile. The arch or instep has abrasive indentations which actually caused a huge blister on both my feet!
