These are awesome, wonderful shoes. Very high quality with excellent craftsmen stitching. They feel so comfortable. Despite the sturdy look, they are really light and flexible. But they are not very wide. Especially around the toe-area. People with wide feet probably have to look for something else.

Was visiting San Francisco about eight years back for a girls' weekend. My plantar fasciitis was raging and I was not looking forward to a weekend of walking in pain. So we set ourselves a mission to find me a better pair of shoes. I found some that diminished the pain somewhat, but nothing seemed compelling. Then I found Rush. The sticker shock was tough to get over but, well, the shoes had me the minute I put them on. Suddenly, NO plantar fasciitis pain, none, zip, nada, just by putting on these shoes. And this is the only shoe I've ever owned that gave me no blisters. After about 2-1/2 years of a daily walking commute of 3-1/2 miles, they were getting worn and weathered and I put them in my closet. By this time, my plantar fasciitis was a vague memory and so I didn't spend the money for a replacement. Just this year, I pulled them out again, and for the cost, had them refurbished (http://www.mephistoresole.com/), and I got essentially a new pair of Rush for this cost. I could not believe how comfortable and solid they are -- I had apparently forgotten that too. I cannot recommend these enough -- some things are truly worth the price! However, I have over the years tried a couple other Mephisto styles and they were nowhere near the same quality or comfort, so my recommendation is specifically for the Rush style. My feet are normal width and overall normal as far as I know with the exception of a high instep.

These shoes are worth every penny! They are so comfortable, right out of the box. And light. The arch support is excellent which is extremely important to me as I am a recovering plantar fasciitis victim. I do not want a re-injury which I fear if I don't have good arch support. These shoes are vary stable also. I have had trouble with slipping off of some flats and actually broke my little toe. No chance of that with these. I highly recommend them.

Everyone says to buy a half size bigger so I bought these both in my regular size and a half size larger. I also found the half size bigger was the better fit.

For me, these are the most comfortable shoes on the face of the earth. Had a pair I wore on numerous trips to Europe but needed to order a size up because me feet have changed. This pair I put in my own arch orthotics which fit fine. Well made and will last a long time.

Awesome shoes!! I bought the tan about 2 months ago and just bought the black. I also have the Pyretas which are comfy (not as much as the Rushes) but more dressy. At any rate, I am at a certain age so I dont have to wear dress shoes much if ever! so these Rushes are it forever! They are GREAT!!

My first pair of Mephisto shoes arrived yesterday. They were delivered at warp speed as Zappos promised. They felt good from the moment that I tried them on. I actually could not believe how good they felt right out of the box. I wore them around the house, and today they feel even better. My feet are very difficult to fit; I need support but cannot wear blocks of cement disguised as shoes, since I have back and knee problems. I look forward to giving these a real trial run, as my work requires me to stand and walk for hours at a time. So far, I am thrilled. I have problems with my toes, also (hammertoes on both feet, one foot slightly wider than the other so that the toes have gotten scrunched with other brands) and was concerned about the toe box on these shoes from reading other reviews - there is more than enough room for my toes. My toes are so happy! They fit like they were made for me. Thank you, Zappos!

These shoes are great! They were comfortable with first wearing. No break-in required. Excellent support. I did order half size larger. I usually wear 8 but 8½ fits me perfectly. I am planning on getting another pair in the nubuck. I wish they would make a pair with some patent leather or something else jazzy.

I have to admit that I'd never spent that much money on a pair of shoes before. They are worth it though. If one is going to splurge, best to splurge on a comfortable pair of shoes you can walk in forever. They are made with a very soft leather and they have extremely good footbed support. Although they look narrow, they're not. I have wide feet and a bunion on one foot and these fit comfortably. I have only one thing on my wish-list for Mephisto, which is that they would make the same shoe without the Mephisto tags on them, especially the bright white one on the tongue of the shoe. It's not visible when wearing pants and standing, but visible when sitting down. Overall, it's an outstanding shoe and I would highly recommend it to anyone with problem feet or folks who do a lot of walking or standing. It's not super stylish, but it's not bad either.

I ordered this shoe on sale and then came back for another in black at full price. I have various foot problems, flat, arthritis, severe pain. This shoe is wonderful - aids with my balance, is extremely supportive and best of all looks really nice and not bulky and big. For me it's a winner.

These are very well-made shoes with high quality, thick, soft leather throughout. I bought my US size 10 and they fit right out of the box. There seems to be a discussion on Zappos about ordering half a size larger. Here is what the Mephisto Rush box top says: "We recommend that you do not buy your shoes too small. Please make sure that between the end of your toes and the tip of the shoes there is enough free space (7-8mm). If this was not the case, we ask you to buy them half a size bigger." Personally, I would question anyone's decision to wear shoes with less space than 7½mm or .295 inches between their long toe and the front of the shoe but I do not interpret this as a recommendation to buy half a size larger. Once again, it was a delight to work with the Zappos customer service representative. I had a nice, conversation with a person who had a great sense of humor. The next business day, I had a pair of shoes at my doorstep. It is just a beautiful thing.

These are the best shoes that I have ever worn for casual walking. They provide great support and cushioning. They look great with pants. I wore them on an African Safari they were the perfect choice. They are true to size, with great arch support.

Great shoe for walking, super comfortable, & water resistant, but do buy a half size bigger than you wear as they run small.

Comfort worth the price - The last pair of Mephisto Rush shoes I had lasted 14 yrs with 1 resoling. Despite their looks (ugly to me) & price (on sale), they were so much more comfortable than any other shoe, I had to buy them again. I also bought a pair of Niros for work. After being on my feet all day as a nurse, the Niros beat any sneaker or shoe I'd ever worn. Pricier, yes but, if they last more than a year, they'll be less expensive than the 3 pairs of sneakers I would have gone through and still be more comfortable. To top everything off, I received my order within 3 days & got exactly what I ordered. Zappos promptly emailed me an order confirmation and shipping notice. Overall, a very pleasant experience well worth repeating.

This was my first pair of Mephisto Rush shoes after hearing and reading many positive reviews regarding the Mephisto line of shoes. I purchased my Mephisto Rush shoes mainly for comfort, support and walking. After wearing them for about a month, I think all of these criteria were met and the styling is rather smart for a walking shoe. I also like that the inserts are removable for cleaning. I ended up purchasing two pairs - 1 in black and 1 in the grey color. I would highly recommend the Mephisto Rush if you are looking for a good pair of walking shoes.

walking a la francaise - These shoes are very comfortable for both walking and standing. If you have feet that are on the narrow side, the lacing system is a plus, because the eyelets are placed wide apart, allowing for adjustments. They are better than wearing synthetic leather athletic shoes, because the high quality leather breathes.

Dependable shoe - I’ve been wearing Mephisto Rush shoes for years. Because I have a chronic back problem, they are one of the few shoes I can depend on for excellent arch support.

Best Walking Shoes Ever! The Mephisto Rush is the best walking shoe I have found yet. My first pair has lasted me 6 years and I decided it was time for a fresh new pair. They have superior lateral support and exceptional overall support - better than any tennis shoes I've found. They may not be the most fashionable looking but fit and support far outweigh the look!

Bought Several Pairs - Fabulous shoe. On feet in large bldg walking seven to ten miles a day. Have very bad feet w/ many problems. Only way I can continue working is with this shoe. I spray shoe stretch on bunion areas for the first few days of a new pair to soften sides for tender areas of foot. Is fine after that. Have bought 4 pairs in the last 5 years. Time for a new pair. Wear Rx orthotics inside w/ soft innersole. Greatest shoe in the world for me. I think they run narrow which is great for me since have narrow foot anyway. Thanks Mephisto.

Life Savers! I bought a pair of the Mephistos Rush and put them on and within three days they were life savers. I had been buying a pair of New Balance tennis shoes every two months and they would not hold up to a concrete floor in a Home Improvement Center. My feet were killing me daily and I could barely walk when I would get up in the mornings. After a week, my feet were 100% better and I have had my shoes for over two years and never regretted buying them. My sister even bought her a pair of the same kind. I will never be without a pair again.
